Moving back to this house wasn't as bad as she thought, everything was the same as she had left it, and her clothes were still in the closet. She traced her hands on the furniture and smiled. The next day as promised, Clarissa came to visit, she was more than happy to see her again.
The two women hugged each other but not tight so as not to crush the little one in Morgana's stomach. They got sentimental and began weeping, Morgana blamed her tears on her hormones.
"Do you know the gender of the baby?" Clarissa asked, she placed a hand on her tummy and caressed it.
"Not yet Mom, I want it to be a surprise." She looked down at her baby bump.
Clarissa didn't come alone, she came with Laurence, Laurence stood in a corner with Maxwell, they were just staring at the ladies. "Am I invisible?" Laurence asked his son who just shrugged his shoulders.
After the heartwarming hugs and tears, Clarissa went to the kitchen and prepared lunch for them since they had already had breakfast by the time she got there.
They sat down at the dining table looking all happy, there was a knock on the door, and a maid rushed to the door. Morgana paused her meal and stared at the door, the maid came back with a young man, he had blue eyes like Maxwell, he had long hair that ended at his shoulders, he looked like a movie star, something out of a novel.
"Trevor?" Clarissa called out, she pushed her seat and rushed to the young man who had been living abroad for a long time now.
"Auntie," he hugged the woman who had been a second mom to him. Laurence pushed his seat back and joined them, Maxwell did the same.
Morgana who doesn't know him just sat there looking at them. "Why didn't you tell me you were coming back?" Maxwell asked.
He pulled his cousin into a manly hug, they were more than cousins, they were brothers who shared different wombs. "You wouldn't have been surprised if I had told you right?" Trevor laughed.
He stared at the lady on the dining table, he had seen pictures of her when they got married, and he also heard about the divorce from his mother. He walked to her and took her hand,
"Greetings sister-in-law." He kissed her knuckles. Maxwell cleared his throat.
"Of course, fifty feet away from her, I get it." He laughed.
"I'm glad you know."
"Trevor, join us for lunch... Edna bring him a plate." Edna nodded and rushed to the kitchen, she came back with a plate, a spoon, a fork and a knife with two glasses.
"Maxwell, how are Carlson and Donald? I guess you are no longer the three most eligible bachelors in New York." Trevor wiggled his eyebrows.
"They have been busy with work, we all have been. I was thinking of setting a meeting at our usual bar, you can join us." Maxwell forked the food in his plate and put it in his mouth.
"Great, his back, I guess we will be seeing less of the both of you. Just like when you were teenagers." Laurence said, he took a sip from his glass of water and cleaned his mouth with his napkin.
Morgana sat and smiled at their interactions, this was her first time seeing Trevor but she could already tell how close they were and she could see that he was a nice person and also she liked his vibe.
It looked like Trevor wasn't the only one who returned to New York, inside one of the luxurious rooms of a five-star hotel was the person with whom Fiona had contact. The person decided to come earlier than they had discussed, this person couldn't wait until it was convenient for her because this person wanted to destroy Morgana and Maxwell's relationship before their baby came to this world.
Back at the dining table, they chatted and laughed, reminiscing about their childhood. They didn't know of the danger that had set foot on the grounds of New York City.
"Did you call auntie?" Maxwell asked.
"I haven't, she doesn't know that I am here but she does have an incline that I'd be here soon because I had informed her about it." At the mere thought of what his mother was doing, he was suddenly hit by a wave of guilt. His mom has been ungrateful to them and it pained him but he couldn't tell on her because she was his mother and it's his duty to protect her but he has promised to protect his cousin and his family too.
"Morgana, how is life with this cousin of mine?" Trevor decided to forget about his problems with his mother and start a conversation with the only person who hadn't spoken a word since he walked through those doors.
"Tough because of how stubborn and irrational he is but at the same time I couldn't ask for more because he is the perfect companion anyone could ask for." Morgana stared at Maxwell who was sitting opposite her with a smile.
"Mother told me about everything, dude you are lucky she gave you a second chance, use it wisely." Although it seemed like he was joking he meant it because he knew that his mother was planning something but he didn't know what it was for sure, she wanted to destroy their relationship.
'I'll try my best to protect you guys from my mother.' he thought to himself, that's the only way he thought he could repay them for their kindness.
If only his dad wasn't a gambler who gambled what they had and died leaving them nothing, even the house they once called home was taken away to pay his debt. His father's brother Laurence took them in since they were family, he didn't for once make them feel like a burden.
He even told Trevor to come work in the company, he could choose any position he wanted but Trevor wanted to go out of the country to follow his dream of becoming an artist and that dream was working fine for him but his mother wanted more.
