Chapter 1 - New Dawn - PROLOGUE

I jolt awake as Mum bursts through the door noisily, a loud creak coming from the door as it swings wide open.

"Come on, wakey-wakey, you don't wanna be late for your first day, do you?"

She said to me hanging next to the door before leaving the door open to my room as she walked out and downstairs. I softly groaned in annoyance and sat up, rubbing my eyes. I let out a yawn as I stretched, feeling my bones crack like a glowstick.

I jump out of bed and shut my door, I enjoy the privacy I have in my room, but of course Mum has to be more annoying than a mosquito at times!

"Maybe I should take a jacket or jumper, it's cold in the mornings."

I say to myself, looking at the fog on my window. I wonder if every night it rains when I fall asleep, that's why my windows are always wet!

I stand on my tippy-toes and reach up before yanking my jumper off the hook. I quickly get dressed and walk out of my room and into the bathroom, giving my hair a comb and my teeth a brush. Just as I'm about to enter the living room, I grab my pair of glasses and put them on my head, they always make me feel safe and adventurous, I bet I'll look the coolest one in school!

"You really wanna wear that thing on the first day? Come on- you're not a baby. Or maybe you're a Big-Baby!"

My older brother, Carlos, teased.

"Shush! You wear pink shoes, are you a girl?"

I talked back, smiling mischievously at Carlos.

"Stop it you two. Violet, go eat breakfast, it's on the table."

Mum ordered. Without hesitating I walked over to the table and pulled out my chair.

I stick my tongue out at Carlos before sitting down at the table in the kitchen and eating my toast peacefully.

I listen to the screeches and squawks of our bird (Conure), Tiki, as she bangs on her cage with her beak, demanding to come out. Mum walks over to the cage and opens the door, letting her fly around. Tiki lands on the table next to me and starts to peck at the crumbs that fall on my plate as I eat.

Once I finish eating I put my plate in the sink and say bye to  Mum and Carlos before putting my bag on and heading outside. I walk down the street and to the bus stop. I sit on the bench and kick the rocks on the ground till the bus arrives.

I hop on board the bus and take a seat near the back, putting my bag in my lap as I lean against the window, the bus shaking and rattling like an old washing machine, even with all this new technology they can't make better buses.

Once I arrive at school I begin to walk straight to class, getting there right on time. I lined up outside with the other kids my age, I must admit, some of them were weirdos... These two girls kept pushing each other and laughing like hyenas, and this one boy just so casually picked his nose in front of me! How much longer is it till I'm finally out of here?- Oh right, another 6 hours of torment.

The minutes left like hours but thankfully with enough patience, I survived the whole day! I race out the door and through the hallway, dodging the stampede of kids rushing to their parents. I bolt out through the door and run past what looked like hundreds of parents but in reality was merely just 15, around there at least. Dad picks me up from school, and as usual, asks me how it was. I always respond with "Good" because it's better than having to explain what happened throughout the day, and I don't even want to have to think about it.

At home I go into my room and get changed, putting on my warm grey-ish light brown jumper and black-grey sweatpants. I can feel they have been put infront of the heater, thank goodness for that!

Before heading into the living room, I open the screen door and walk outside to feed Loona. (Dog; Boxer) I see her tail whipping in the air as she licks her nose hungrily. I can't help but giggle as I walk over to her bowl, looking at her adorable and silly expression. I hold up the bag of biscuits, pour it into her bowl, and endure the sound of biscuits hitting the metal bowl like gunfire.

Once I finish I go back inside and wash my hands in the kitchen, using a bit of soap as well to get rid of the nasty biscuit smell and dirt from Loona's fur since I just can't resist patting her soft fur!

I sit down in the living room and jump on the couch, lying down in a comfortable position, and resting my legs on the corner of the table..

"Hey, don't change the channel, I was watching that!"

I call out to Carlos, annoyed he switched channels to the news, little did I know that that one switch of a channel would've just warned us all about the oncoming danger.
