Chapter 9 - Nature's bathtub

His boots squelched upon the damp grass as he walked along the side of the cliff face that looked over his head like a giant looking down upon an ant. The cool, wet taste of the air stood as a reminder of the rain that must of fallen the night before. The sky was clear save for a few grey clouds that had dispersed from the night reflecting the suns rays. It was already past noon when he left his home to make his journey to the small lake that was his current destination. From the looks of the surroundings and the dull almost non-existent roar of the falls of in the distance told him he was still a good 20 minutes away from his destination." Man I really picked an inconvenient spot for my cave huh." He pondered for a moment before he shook the thought away." It's fine inconvenient is better than easy to find, I might be good but if someone really strong showed up they would leap to the heavens in a single step with the amount of insights scrawled on the walls of the cave. The thought of an immortal decending to snatch away his experience and use his countless milenia of cultivation knowledge to commit a genocide was terrifying. "It's no matter I'll hide like a rat till I become a dragon, then my true journey will start. Until then I need to bide my time and rebuild my broken self." His mutterings had helped him lose track of time as before he had realized he had arrived at the small lake. The howling roar of the waterfall rose to a crichendo as it crashed against the rocks in a defending roar. Taking in the newly familiar sight he fell right into the steady movements and order of the wildlife. He had recognized that this was a natural neutral ground that none of the larger predators dared to claim for themselves so they simply came to clean themselves or drink before leaving. They at least had developed some intelligence while the small critters chased and ran from one another but none of them wanted to fight around the water in fear of the big ones so they quickly drank as well before leaving. It was a delicate and unspoken peace that he did not wish to disturb. So he acted in the fasson of the beasts."As they say when in Rome do as the Romans do, now I wonder where did I learn that saying?" His mind said something about a place called earth or something but he wasn't quite sure. " it's not that important." He decided as he bent over to drink straight from the lake just as the tigers and rabbits of the jungle did.

The best way to survive was to comply with the places customs even the beasts had customs and though the smart ones recognized he was a foreign creature they left him be. Then he walked into the south of the lake away from the falls as it was where the weaker beasts resided. He knew even though it was neutral ground the strong still were entitled to the best location under the falls. He kept his distance as he mingled with the 'prey' of the Forrest but even here he was more like a sheep in wolfs clothing. Even though his necklace gave of a qi signature it was faint he was no cultivator and did not want his metal to be tested. Slowly he made his way into the water and only after seeing the beasts glance in his direction and then proceeded to ignore him did he finally feel good enough to start bathing. As he scrubbed his arms he felt weeks worth of sweat and dirt float off his skin and clothes as he basked for a moment in the cool refreshing sensation. His skin felt the chill of the water more intensely then he thought it would but the past few weeks had built so much tension in his system that it was all he could do to keep his eyes open. There was one time he had drifted too close tho the falls but a simple growl from a tiger like beast sent his head into a frenzy as he gave a remorseful wine to convey his intention before swimming back his his area of the lake. The tiger seemed satisfied by his adherence to the order and proceeded to leave him be." Whew I still need to be careful I got a little carried away". After that he began franticly scrubbing his torn charcoal tinted robes to at least remove the smell of the past week but from the sky it appeared differently.

A duo of two people were flying over the ironoak Forrest that was on the outskirts of there sect ground studying the ground looking for something or more accurately, someone. Their robes bore orange and yellow hues similar to that of the man from which he aquired his storage bag. They searched for their quarry till they came across the waterfall they had been taught about when learning geography. "The beast falls" the woman of the duo spoke out loud to her companion in a matter of fact tone. " they say it's home to the strongest beasts on this side of the Kingdom." As she spoke the man next to her wrinkled his nose at the claims.

" It's over exaggerated there nothing but mindless brutes in the end only useful for their hides." His words were coarse and did not sit quite right with the woman but she did not reproach the man. "Let's just get this over with he probably was eaten by the beasts it's the last place we need to check." The woman nodded in response, they were both tired from their nonstop search, for over 3 weeks they had searched every inch of the Forrest in order to find the son of elder Ru Bing , but they had come up without any results. Without responding to the man's rude outburst the lady began flying over the edge of the waterfall. As she scanned the ground below she soon happened upon a black robes figure freaking out in the water, she couldn't quite tell what was happening at the moment but it looked like he was panicking or drowning. She immediately thought he was being attacked and began rapidly diving down into the water, a large spear of fire formed in her hands as she fell ready to strike out. The man had barely noticed her reaction before she immediate dove down.as he franticly looked around for a moment, she had already rushed out forcing him to quickly chase after her.
