I walked casually into the adventurer's guild. There was no way the news had spread all the way here so quickly. One of the beauties if having a Wyvern ride you was the speed one could accomplish.
Upon entering this towering building, the place was calm and empty unlike normal. I walked up to the counter with Eron floating by my side, not visible to the naked eyes.
"Where is everyone?" I asked the attendant. "This place is unusually empty."
"Oh, that. There was some quest about a high ranking beast, and Curry managed to spur everyone on to take the beast. A lot of the adventurers have now gone to kill the beast. If they are successful... "
"This high ranking beast, what beast is it exactly?" I asked.
"The quest has been taken, you cannot take it unless there is a report of the quest being forfeit." She cautioned. "Moreover, you do not have a party. You need one to take on a quest of such magnitude."
"I am aware of the rules of the guild. I just want to know a bit more about the quest. Knowing Curry, he'll probably get their lot killed. I'm just trying to help, if I can." I replied.
"Whatever. They are to fight a Minotaur. One was spotted in the Cagriali dungeons not far from this city." She answered.
"Thank you." I replied, turning back to leave as I had determined the person I was here to search for was unavailable.
"Oh, wait." The attendant called out to me. "Your party, Sherby is the Captain, right?" I turned back to look at her.
"Yes, there a problem with that?" I asked, looking at her with a face filled with confusion.
"Oh, nothing. Just... they were among the lot of people who went to find and defeat the Minotaur. Just thought you should know." She said, shrugging away at my worried look.
"Thanks for telling me." I said. I turned back to leave once again but was called out once more.
"Hey." I grumbled and turned again to face her.
"What is it this time?" I asked, clearly showing my impatient self.
"Surely you didn't think all of that information was free, right?" She said with a smile that told she was amused at my predicament. My already twisted face twisted even more as I heard this.
"Come now, when have I ever given you anything free?" She asked, stretching out her hand in a demanding manner. I grumbled, fumbled with my garment and then handed out a pouch to her, before leaving the institution.
Where to now, Jason?
"Where else, but to the Cagriali dungeons?"
And I suppose you know where that is?
"Of course, I'm not a fool." I answered."I will visit home first, one last time." I said, looking in the direction opposite where we had come.
Lead the way.
I walked for about thirty minutes, with Eron floating a little above my shoulder before we got to the Ximoa mansion.
"Wait here. I won't be long." I said to Eron.
Why? It's not like they can see me.
"True, but I know you're there." I answered.
How is that bad? I AM your protector, no? Besides, where the sword goes...
"You follow, I know." I frowned. "Whatever, come on. Let's go."
We moved into the mansion as silently as possible, going in the direction of my room - where Alphonso always nested. We got there without any incident whatsoever only to find Alphonso wasn't in the room.
Little human, your friend is not here. Are you going to risk exposing your presence just to see this friend?
"You're right, I'm not thinking straight." I said. I took a scroll and some ink, before writing a farewell note for Alphonso, Father and Leanna to see later on.
"Come on, let's leave." I said as I turned and exited the room.
After travelling for about two to three hours, it was already dark out but we had reached our destination. We were in front of the Caliagri dungeons.
In this world, dungeons were not gaols. Whenever someone heard the word dungeons, their first thought would directly go to this types of dungeons, which were always filled with monsters.
Dungeons were a natural occurrence for reasons unknown to the general public. But this did not deter the people of this world. They investigated dungeons and found that the rewards gotten from conquering dungeons were immense.
According to common sense, dungeons were conquered after defeating the final boss. In this case, the final boss of this dungeon was certainly this Minotaur, these things were extremely rare, see. Thus, there was no way a Minotaur would be a henchman of some other beast. This was because the rarer a beast, the stronger it was compared to some other beast, so no other ordinary magical beast could command a Minotaur.
We were nested out in the darkness in front of a large cave which held the entrance to the dungeon; this dungeon that was famous around our city.
"We will spend the night outside here. On the morrow, we will go in to find the one we came here to find." I said to my companion.
Whatever you want. Either way, I'm juat spending my time doing nothing.
"Will you stop whining like a little baby?"
A little baby, huh? Eron pausdd for a moment before continuing as he landed on the bare ground, visible. It's funny. If I had been called that a few days ago, I would have ravaged cities. But now, it's just... Never mind.
"I never did. You were just ranting on and on. I didn't ask for your life story." I said, uncaring of what he felt afterwards. "By the way, what were you doing around Jarie City when we met?"
Oh, so now you want my life story. Is that it?
"Oh, no. I'm just curious is all." I answered casually.
Whatever. It doesn't matter either way. I was there, we met. Now we're here. It's fate.
"Call it whatever you want. I don't believe in fate."
Ha ha ha. Little human, you have not seen even the top of this world and you are already choosing what to believe and not believe.
Fret not. If you libe long enough, your mindset will surely change.
I looked at this gargantuan sized protector of mine and took a deep breath before lying down and closing my eyes to sleep.
