Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Calamity Online

Chapter 1: Calamity Online

Around the time of midnight, Scarlet Street Jinxin Green City.

Within the grand building that was supposed to be the headquarters of the Red Calamity guild, on the topmost floor seated on a leather sofa was Tai Xin. There was a smart tab present in his palms. Unwillingness flashed through Tai Xin's eyes as he looked at the tab.

Tai Xin. He was the prodigy who started playing the game Calamity online at the age of twelve. The game was built for lovers of challenges. A fully immersive 100% realism VR game.

For some reason, it was supported by the government too! The currency of the game was exchangeable with real-life currency!

Undoubtedly Tai Xin was one of the most famous experts in the Calamity online. Six years! That was the amount of time he spent playing the game! He passed through the first calamity and successfully became a player! He won many wars within the Calamity online becoming a high-ranking player, gaining a lot of experience!

He and a few of his friends decided to create the guild Red Calamity! It wasn't exaggerated to say that it was all because of his leadership skills that the Red Calamity had reached the height it is present currently!

However one bet... One single bet ruined it! Tai Xin and his friend Le Bao argued with each other. That small argument quickly turned into an internal war. War within their guild.

And so both of them decided to finish all of this once and for all. That was by battling with each other in the Virtual arena. And it was obvious that they would also keep some penalties for the loser.

Unbeknownst to Tai Xin Le Bao had managed to gain a Legendary class weapon. The weapon that was used to defeat Tai Xin.

"Is it really just over like that?!" Tai Xin exclaimed. Le Bao had clearly mentioned in the contract that not only would Tai Xin have to delete his account, but the right to make new accounts or play Calamity Online in the future would also be revoked or taken away from him. and unfortunately that happened.

Tai Xin's eyes turned bloodshot as he chucked the smart tab to the wall at an extremely fast speed breaking its screen.

"Shit!" He exclaimed as he let his anger get the best of him, destroying everything that he found. In the end, after calming himself down he lay on the bed trying to relax his mind.

He closed his eyes as he lay on the couch trying to get sleep. But the scenery of Calamity Online kept on flashing in his mind.

...On one occasion Lee Sheng used his great sword to protect me from the dungeon overlord. Even though his avatar was killed and his level regressed a lot he managed to greatly injure the overlord while protecting us too.

...On July 4th, 2025 Lee Sheng with my help managed to win the grand royal competition!

...The world's first S-class dungeon opened near our city. Our guild managed to enter it and with the help of Zhi Ning, we managed to clear the dungeon.

Crack! Crack!

Yeah! Just like that! That's how it sounded when the dungeon crack opened. When the spatial rift appeared!

Tai Xia thought. But then for a second, he froze.

Crack!

Crack!

He felt Deja Vu. His lips trembled as he quickly sprang from the couch and landed on the floor his heart palpitating.

Have I gone crazy?!

Am I hallucinating?

He felt great pressure on himself. Chills traveled through his body as goose pimples appeared on his skin. His body trembled a little however he quickly regained his composure.

'Yes, I must be hallucinating. But if I am hallucinating...'

[Ding!]

[Welcome~! Fated one, face the trials of the calamity and reach the continent of Fantasia to protect it~!]

"Calamity Spell!"

Tai Xin's eyes widened! This was the calamity spell! It was basically the status screen and the guide for the players of Calamity online.

Bang!

The door quickly burst open. In front of him was a creature that he never expected to see again. After all his connection calamity online was already broken.

But rather than being happy, he was dreading. Goblins! The most basic and the weakest race of the monsters were currently dashing towards him.

He quickly grabbed a wooden chair, twisted his leg, and banged the goblin's head, as a result sending the goblin midair. Goblins were creatures with the weakest defense and offense. They were so weak that even a normal human exerting a little strength would be able to kill it.

Ding!

[A level -1 goblin killed]

[1EXP Gained]

"Huh?"

[Hidden quest completed]

[1st monster killed]

[Reward: 20 Exp]

[Do you accept]

[Yes] /[No]

Without giving him the time to think further another goblin sprang towards him. Tai Xin quickly twisted his body landing the chair on the goblin's head and creating a bloody mess.

Green blood splattered as the goblin's head busted into a million pieces.

Ding!

[1EXP Gained]

Bang!

[1EXP Gained]

Bang!

[1EXP Gained]

"Huff, Huff."

He had merely killed 4 goblins however he was already tired. He panted as he looked at the horde of goblins rushing toward him.

He... He felt like he had become his twelve-year-old self who was battling with these goblins for the first time, determination flashing through his eyes.

Veins popped up in his arms as he rushed towards the goblins swinging the chair. Blood splattered throughout the place as Tai Xin continued his killing spree. A pile of dead bodies entirely created by the goblins was formed.

Simultaneously some cracks had also formed on the chair. Tai Xin was lying on the ground covered in green blood. If his companions knew that he the great magic swordsman with great intelligence struggled to kill mere goblins then they would definitely drown him with humiliation.

"What... What in the hell was that?!"

And so it took a few more minutes to calm himself now. Tai Xin then looked into empty air as an idea appeared in his head

"Status."

His voice echoed throughout the place. The next second a familiar yet unfamiliar blue window appeared in front of him.

[Calamity day: 45:56:28]

"Shit!" Tai Xin exclaimed as he looked at the status screen. If he was right then it looked like the game had turned into reality. And if this so-called game was Calamity Online which it definitely was then everyone in this world was F*cked.

This game was absolutely insane! Players had to face disasters upon disasters!

To sum it up this game lives up to its name. Calamity Online.

Looking at the bottom of the status panel where the word calamity day was present with its ticking timer Tai Xin's face twisted even more.

Calamity day. Every player who joined the game would have to face this day. They would be teleported to a trial land in which they would face calamity. If the player managed to survive the calamity then they would receive their first skill, with an additional bonus, and would be teleported to the world of Fantasia.

That's where the real challenges and miseries would start.

Knowing all this and looking at the ticking timer Tai Xin's throat became dry. This was real life for god's sake!

Tai Xin then closed his eyes thinking about the situation. "No matter what... I have to adapt.

And since when... Did I hate challenges?"

"Hehe~ Hahahahahahhaha!"

Tai Xin wasn't simply called the insane maniac within the game. One could see a live example of it currently.

Slowly standing up he looked at the door. "To survive the calamity day, I need to do some preparations." Seriousness flashed through his eyes as he cracked his knuckles. Simultaneously a smile appeared on his face. A very warm smile, making him look very kind.

If any of his acquaintances or friends looked at his smile they would feel nothing but chills. In the game, he was also called the smiling devil.

A few hours later.

Tai Xin could be seen walking on the streets. Around him were the ruined houses and buildings.

Tai Xin understood the situation of the current earth. Complete chaos!

Dungeons had appeared in every corner of the world. There were dungeons as weak as G Rank and there were dungeons as strong as D rank dungeons.

While gaining intel about the current situation of the world he also hunted more monsters and after all his effort he finally reached level 2

All his stats increased by one point and he also gained an additional one attribute point. This one attribute point could be added to any one of his stat.

However, Tai Xin decided not to add it and stockpile it.

"I should at the least try to reach level 3 before my calamity day." It was very tough as to reach level 3 he needed 1000 EXP. This was insane. Many people just like him also found out about the status screen.
