Chapter 4: Catacombs
[Player Tai Xin, may the calamity be with you. Embrace it]
As soon as the calamity spell's voice faded away Tai Xin came back to his senses.
Splash!
Tai Xin had already experienced calamity day in Calamity Online. And he had also seen videos of many others attempting calamity day.
Most of the time people were dropped in the middle of a war, or a plagued ground. These two cases were the main setting. But there were some unusual settings such as being dropped in the middle of an ocean or directly above a burning place. Surviving in these kinds of situations was extremely tough.
Tai Xin quickly shook his head, getting rid of all these thoughts, and focused on his current situation. It seemed like his body had been thrown into some kind of water source.
Seconds after he realized this, Tai Xin's body started to sink. No, it had already started to sink and he had realized it now.
Using every part of his body, he pushed the water putting force against it. It looked like Tai Xin's effort didn't go to waste as his body slowly started to rise.
...Thankfully I know how to swim. By the way, where the hell even am I? Sea? Lake? River? Shore? Ocean?
But suddenly his thoughts paused. That was because of a familiar smell, that assaulted his nose.
All the hairs on Tai Xin's body stood up, and his eyes wide open. As soon as it did, Tai Xin was met with endless deep red waves.
He quickly willed his mana to his eyes. Though his mana control was still crude he managed to do it with some effort.
Tai Xin seemed to be in a lake, which was almost comparable to Earth's largest lake, thankfully he was close to the surface, however... "Blood! Holy Moly!"
This entire lake was completely formed of blood. That was the reason it seemed to be denser than water. Looking at those deep red waves, slowly coming towards his way, trying to engulf him Tai Xin had only one word to describe it... Horrifying.
And why the heck was it so cold?!
Tip, tip, tip.
On top of that it was raining. Tai Xin felt like his blood would freeze if this continued.
Crackle!
Splash!
As Tai Xin was complaining about the temperature of Blood Lake, lightning in the sky crackled as if the heavens themselves roared! Followed by the crackle was a splash! Something huge fell into the lake creating large ripples that even managed to push Tai Xin by a few inches.
Tai Xin's instincts were screaming to not look up. And even though Tai Xin trusted his instincts, he ended up looking at the sky.
And what he saw... It was something that he would never be able to forget. Something that would haunt him even in the happiest dreams like the worst nightmares.
The droplets falling from the sky, which he thought were just water droplets...
"Blood... What the hell!" The sky in itself was bloodred as if entirely composed of blood.
Blood wasn't the only thing that was raining. Monsters! The thing that fell near him was a f*king monster!
...My luck can't be that bad now, can it?
Splash!
Splash!
Waking Tai Xin from his thoughts were thousands and thousands of monsters that seemed to have taken birth from the sky itself. Thousands? Thousands of monsters were falling each second on the lake. It looked like the divine punishment descending on humanity, given by the heavens.
"F"ck! Does the spell want me dead?! F*ck whoever made this dammed spell! Curse their entire generation and the next one!"
Using all the force in his body and willing mana to his arms and legs, his body shot towards the piece of land that was in front.
The land was a few kilometers away from him. This was the reason, it was taking him so long. Most probably it would take him more than half a day to reach the land.
Splash!
But it seemed like the calamity spell had other plans for him. Just as Tai Xin continued swimming with all the might and force present in his body he felt as if something had suddenly crashed on him. Something extremely heavy, that almost broke the bones in his body. The fact that this heavy body had landed on Tai Xin with a high momentum due to the fall wasn't helping.
"Argh!" His mouth automatically opened to scream the thick blood entered his mouth, making him feel like he was about to puke.
Tai Xin instinctively closed his eyes while moving his arms and legs bustling with mana which helped him move away from the monster by a few meters.
Unfortunately to his despair in that split second, he had completely exhausted his mana! Gritting his teeth he used his physical strength to move upwards!
'Breath! Breath!' As he felt the fresh air, all the blood present in his mouth was spat out by him. He then tried his hardest to breathe and soothe his burning lungs.
"Hissssssss!" All of a sudden Tai Xin felt vibrations passing through his body messing with his internal organs as the monstrosity behind him which had crashed on him earlier hissed.
Turning his head he looked at the giant serpent, around the length of thirty meters. It had dark green scales, and gigantic fangs, and was hissing systematically. It's blue slits narrowed dangerously.
"That's a big ass snake!" Tai Xin commented trying to lighten up his mood. But his voice became hoarse. That was because of the level of the beast that popped up shown by the calamity spell.
[Level: 93]
'I will die without even knowing how I did!' Cold sweat appeared on Tai Xin's body. A deadpan expression appeared on his face as he remembered his times in the Clamaity Online where a monster of this level was nothing in front of him.
...There's plenty of time to remember about those good old days. For now, let's escape!
Looking at the serpent Tai Xin slowly inched away from it. His muscles were slowly becoming sore.
Unfortunately, it seemed like fate wasn't on his side. The serpent looked at him with its menacing eyes. Being started by those vicious eyes, Tai Xin for a second forgot to breathe.
The serpent shot towards Tai Xin. "Son of a b*tch is coming!"
~Famous last words~
Thought Tai Xin, fortunately, or unfortunately reality was different. Two colossal tentacles erupted from behind Tai Xin. Those two tentacles had sharp tips and were bluish-black.
These two tentacles wrapped themselves around the giant serpent! "Hissssss!"
One tentacle wrapped itself around the tail while the other tentacle wrapped itself around the head.
Ripp!
Like a small frail piece of fabric, the serpent was ripped apart into two pieces. Some of its internal organs fell around the lake while the other organs were attached to thread-like structures.
Even after being ripped apart into two pieces, the serpent kept hissing, as a fountain of blood was spewed through its mouth.
Tai Xin whose heart almost came out of his chest, had already escaped. He was just a mere ant in front of these colossal figures. Just a puny little ant, which wouldn't even serve as a proper snack.
But once again fate played with him. A grey shark, approximately double the size of an average male was rushing behind Tai Xin, with its mouth open showing its dreadful razor-sharp teeth.
...Moreover, this thing can spew fire! What are you, part of those overgrown flying bunch of prideful, lizards?! Because I thought they Patreoned it?!
Thankfully in time, he found a red pillar. There were many inscriptions embedded in it.
With the help of those inscriptions, he managed to climb the red pillar which was approximately ten meters in length.
Though it took him a lot of effort and his fingers also started to bleed. Not to mention the shark that was constantly breathing flames, launching them towards Tai Xin.
Because of that shark, there were many burn marks on Tai Xin's body, especially his back.
The top of that pillar was broad enough to at least ten people.
Lying on the top of the pillar after a very long time since entering this world Tai Xin was truly able to rest. After lying there like a log for a few minutes Tai Xin finally stood up.
A glint appeared in his brown eyes before dimming as he checked on his own body.
It appeared that he wasn't able to bring the bag filled with mana cores. Even the sword wasn't present with him. Though he expected this to happen, it still left a bitter taste in his mouth.
Sighing he then looked at his clothing condition. His jogging pants were on with some burn marks on them. As for his T-shirt and jacket... They were completely burnt into ashes, leaving behind a lot of burn marks on his body.
... Let's get to the main topic.
His face suddenly became serious as he summoned the calamity spell.
Ding!
