Chapter 1 - Altercation Preceeds Breakup

Shut up!" Wang Fang roared at Li Wei. They have been dating for over six months now.

At first, she tried to convince herself that the relationship would work out.

Her relationship with Wei was the first and only relationship she had ever had.

Li Wei wasn't ready to be committed to any relationship, and for that reason, he kept giving Fang reasons to break up with him.

Wei was being too overprotective and having trust issues. There had never been a day spent with Fang that he didn't go through Fang's cell phone in search of any suspicious content that would amount to him breaking up with her.

.....

If anyone had told me that you could pull off such a childish and self-centered attitude, I would not have believed it. She said it almost in tears, but she was quick enough to hold them back.

I see no reason why you should be cheating; you find it hard to trust me even when you have access to my phone. I don't have access to yours, yet you can't trust me.

All this time, while Fang had been talking, Wei had been listening to her words and trying so hard not to interrupt her while she was talking.

"Ooh, you think I don't have reasons why I behave the way I do? I mean! One gets tired of being seen around all the time with one lady," he complained mockingly.

If only Fang had foreseen all these happenings before now, there could have been no way she would be in this mess she called a relationship with Li Wei.

.......

Fang had always said to herself that she would end up marrying her first date before she met Wei at a hotel where she works as a receptionist. Wei had come there to lodge one night.

There was no reservation left for him, so Fang thought it wise to make him feel comfortable since, according to him, he was coming from a distant city and he needed to rest.

Fang asked him to spend the night in her room, which the hotel provided for her as personal accommodation. She can pass the night whenever she is on the night shift.

He spent the night there while Fang slept at the reception, which was against the hotel policy. She had to do that to make Wei feel comfortable, thereby staking her livelihood.

The next morning, Wei offered Fang some money to help him out, but Fang did not accept the offer.

Wei insisted she take the money but kept declining the offer.

Wei collected Fang's phone number and promised to call her once he got to his destination.

He did exactly what he promised to do. He placed a call to Fang and told her he had gotten to his destination, which was his place of residence.

They kept talking over the phone after that very day, and it occurred to Wei that he needed to see Fang once again.

He then asked Fang if he could visit her at her workplace, and Fang gave him a 'yes' answer.

Unknowingly to Wei, Fang was already falling in love with him due to the consistent phone calls from him, especially the night calls. Whenever she was not on the night shift at work, Wei would call her, and they would talk for almost the whole next day.

The phone calls and visits continued for 2 months, and Wei discovered that he barely lived a day without calling or visiting Fang at her workplace. It was obvious he was in love.

They started dating within three months of their friendship. Fang never thought Wei could end up treating her badly because she tried so hard not to give him reasons to do so; she was indeed a good girl who was well raised and who was ready to be committed to one relationship.

........

"All I have always wanted is to see that this relationship works out, but... She almost got choked by her tears, and then she took a break, breathing in and out to gain some strength. She continued...

"You are the one cheating, yet you find it so hard to trust me; you go through my phone and end up discovering nothing; you know within yourself that I'm faithful. I overlook your wrongdoings and pretend like I don't see anything, just to let peace reign. She complained bitterly.

"What do you have in mind? Come on, let it out! It's beginning to interest me that you are so tired of this relationship that you pretend like everything has been okay and that you are cool with what is happening.

You have no idea how much I detest pretense.

Tell me, what do you want from me?

All Wei needed at this juncture was a breakup. He was tired of his relationship with Fang but didn't want to be the one to say, 'It is over.

He had been waiting for this opportunity to present itself. Here it is now. It was obvious Fang was going to do the breakup, as he had always wanted it to happen.

Not that Wei didn't feel anything for Fang; of course, there was a feeling that prompted him to ask Fang to date him in the first place, and the feeling is still very much intact.

His promiscuous nature had made him hurt Fang quite a few times; he hated the fact that he kept hurting her, and the best thing for him to do was to break up with her instead of turning a new leaf and making her happy.

We just weren't tired of flirting; he sees Fang as one of his conferences to his flirting lifestyle, so he kept giving her red flags to make her get tired of him and let go of him.

She had been quiet after Wei's last words landed on her ears. It was quite shocking, and it got her puzzled. She finally gained consciousness and said:

"Well, it is obvious you've always wanted this day to come; that's why you don't think you must change at all. There you are; it's right here; you can as well grab it.

I don't see any reason why we should be doing this when the right thing to do is to end this relationship.

I love you so much, Wei, but you took my love for granted. It is over between us, Wei! I pray you find a more patient lady that would tolerate you better than I ever did."

......

Fang Finally said what Li Wei had been waiting to hear, even though she didn't feel better saying it. But was she going to remain in a relationship in which she was never valued and respected? Not! Breaking up was a good one, at that.

"You want to allow this little altercation to take over the better part of the love we shared?

This is uncalled for, Fang; deep down, is this what you want? We asked as if he never wanted the breakup.

"What do you care? If you want to know, yes! This is what I have always wanted," Fang uttered in response to Wei's question.

........

She then walked out on Wei after her last words. Her eyes were filled with tears, and she needed to shed them out to make her feel alright, but certainly not in front of Wei anymore.

She almost cried out of her eyes as soon as she left Wei's presence to go to the roadside to hail a cab.

She finally got a cab to take her home after standing by the roadside for almost 45 minutes.

Immediately after she got into the cab, the cab driver noticed through the side mirror that she had been crying.

"Miss, is anything the matter? Why are you crying?" he asked in concern.

"Can you save yourself the stress by not trying to show concern? You men are all the same," she responded to the cab driver angrily.

The cab driver decided not to ask her any further questions because he had already gotten a clearer picture of what must have caused her tears. He concluded it was due to heartbreak.
