Chapter 3 - Hurtful Words from a Stranger

Few days after Fang broke up with Wei. She was ready to go to work as she did not allow her broken relationship to weigh her down too much.

Wang Fang locked her door and headed to the bus stop where she normally gets a cab that takes her to work.

Thankfully, she didn't have to wait for long before getting one, although she was almost late for work.

In less than 40 minutes she was already at her workplace. She got there about 20 minutes past the normal daily work resumption time.

As luck had it on her, she was loved by almost everybody at her workplace especially her Boss who barely query her knowing fully well that late coming is not what Fang derived joy in doing.

Wang Fang had been one of the best staff as far as her Manager was concerned. She was a trusted and loyal receptionist but knew her right and never allow any of her superiors to bully her or make her feel less of herself.

Her Boss liked her for that. She was kind of a huge challenge to him. She has been placed in high Esteem by her Boss.

The respect her Manager had for her was a result of what happened at the hotel months ago.

*********

Some men had come to the hotel some time ago with the aim of lodging. They wanted to just pass 2 nights and not more. Unfortunately, they didn't know that the hotel lacked some standard facilities they needed there to make them feel comfortable within the period they were going to lodge there.

They already made payment to Wang Fang who was the receptionist on duty that very day for a particular room.

On getting to the room they found out that there was no shower, just a tap, bucket, and a bailer for bathing.

The A.C. wasn't working fine as well.

They could not hold back their grievances, one of them had to rush down to the reception to question Wang Fang as to why she checked them into such a room.

"You are the receptionist right?" one of them asked in a harsh tone

"Yes, I am. Is there a problem?" Fang responded with a calm and friendly voice.

"Getting to our room, we discovered that there was no shower in there and the A.C is not in good working shape " he replied angrily

"We are deeply sorry Sir. Not all the rooms are without a shower. Would you like to be upgraded instead?" She said apologetically.

With the way she talked to one of the men that confronted her, she had succeeded in calming him down.

"Upgrade us immediately," the man said but this time around it was with a calm tone.

"That won't be a problem, but the upgrade is going to cost you more money Sir," Fang said with a smile on her face.

The man obliged and made extra payment to be upgraded to a better and more comfortable room.

Wang Fang succeeded in handling the situation without the involvement of her Boss. She does handle more critical situations than this and this isn't going to be the first time of a critical occurrence.

That has contributed to the pride and likeness her Boss had for her.

Just as she was settled for the day's duty, her phone rang and it was a call from her friend Zhang Min. At first, she wondered why Min was calling her knowing fully well she would be at work that morning.

She suddenly realized that it was unlike Min to call when she is at work if there was nothing important and urgent to talk about.

She snubbed the call and quickly rushed out of the hotel premise to return Zhang Min's call.

"Hello, Min"

"What's up Fang"

"What's happening? Why the call??"

Fang asked in a way that depicted she was not comfortable with the call.

" I just called to check up on you, from the way you sound it's obvious you are okay" Min responded

"Thanks for checking up on me, Min. I'm sorry I didn't answer the call when you called" Fang Sounded relieved on knowing there wasn't a problem.

"you don't have to be sorry, I'm glad you are okay. I have to go now. Take good care of yourself"

Zhang Min had called to check up on her friend to be sure the heartbreak isn't affecting her that much in the aspect of her job.

She wanted to be sure that Fang was doing quite alright and getting over what she had with Li Wei.

**********

At about 9:30 pm. Fang was done with her duty. She most times worked from 9:00 am to 9:00 pm whenever she was not on the night shift.

On her way back from work, the thought of Li Wei crept into her mind. She had a flashback to memory lane of everything that happened when she was dating Wei.

The good side of Wei left a smile on her face which did not last up to a minute before it disappeared immediately his bad side bumped into her mind.

Her mind was so occupied with so much to think about that she didn't hear the horn of a car coming in her direction.

She was about to cross to the other side of the road to get a cab that would take her home, she almost got knocked down by the same car that had been horning.

"Hey! young lady, what is your problem?! You were so deep in thought that you didn't notice a car was coming from behind you. The driver said those words and paused for some time to see what Fang's reaction Would be like.

He had expected her to say something and when she failed to do so, he continued.

"I can see you have lost it. You are not sane. Just in case you are looking for someone to get you to your early grave, you have to look elsewhere because am not in the position to carry out such an operation." He said abusively in an angry tone.

He got back into his car and drove off immediately. Not minding how his words got so much into Fang.

While the man was talking, Fang had been quiet and calm. She stood still like a statue without uttering a word to the man. After a few seconds, she got back to her senses and moved away from where she stood.

She crossed to the other side of the road to get a cab to take her home.

The man's words had some negative effects on Wang Fang. She became very calm and felt like she was all alone in the world with nobody to talk to.

First, it was Wei's Nonchalant attitude towards her, and now some hurtful words from a total Stranger.

At this juncture, she wished the ground could open up and swallow her. What was she still living for when it seemed her world was crashing and everybody seems to be against her except her mother and her friend?

Those were the people she believed she was leaving for.
