"So sorry, I never planned for this to happen," Fang apologized to the young man she had accidentally bumped into out of haste.
She had been given an urgent call by her boss's younger brother, Li Jun, regarding an emergency that came up that he needed Fang to handle. even though she was not supposed to be at work that very day because it was the weekend.
At first, she wasn't happy when Li Jun told her to show up at work, but immediately she heard that it was something very important that demanded her presence, and she was also told that she was the right person to offer a possible solution to the situation. Fang had no choice but to let it be the way it ought to be.
"You are sorry? You have nothing to be sorry for. You haven't done anything wrong yet." The young man responded to Fang's apology.
He was heading in Fang's direction. He had stood at the spot where Fang bumped into him for about thirty minutes. Just as he was about to leave, Fang came into the picture.
"Really. Alright. I'm hurrying somewhere before this incidence. I'm still very sorry." Fang apologized again. But this time around, she didn't wait for the man to say anything. She got into a cab that had earlier stopped in front of them even when none of them hailed it.
Fang suspected the cab had stopped, probably because he thought they needed a cab.
Fang happened to be the only one who entered the cab. The other guy didn't join her.
Right inside the cab, she tried calling Li Jun to tell him she was already on her way to the office, but unfortunately, the number wasn't connecting.
She tried again for the fifth time, but it was still not connecting. She became worried; the thought of getting to the hotel and not meeting Li Jun saddened her mood.
She got busier with her phone, trying to get through to Li Jun. She didn't take note of the route the cab driver was taking her through; after all, she didn't mention her destination, and the cab driver never bothered to ask her where she was heading.
The cab driver stopped her in front of a 3-story building that stood magnificently and looked somewhat like an office.
"We are here, Miss," the driver finally uttered. This was the first time he had said something since Fang got into his cab.
"We are where?" She asked as she raised her head to behold a very beautiful building right in front of them. She could not believe what she was seeing. She looked at the driver's face through the front mirror in between the driver's and passenger's seats.
She was shocked at the same time. Confused as to what she was seeing, she was not in any way familiar with the place she was taken to. What surprised her most was that she did not mention any addresses to the driver. So what made the driver think that's where she had in mind to go?
"Where are we?" she asked for the second time. Even though the first question had not been answered by the driver. Still, the second wasn't answered either.
"I believe I am talking to a human being; is this where I initially asked you to take me?" She asked her third question this time around with a range of anger in her voice.
"Miss. You never told me your destination. While driving, I thought I was taking the right route since you didn't say anything about the route."
"What the heck are you saying?! I didn't tell you where I was going, and you didn't bother asking me either." She spoke angrily.
While they were still talking, a lady well-dressed in a corporate outfit, looking all smart and beautiful, opened the cab door, signaling Fang to come out.
Again, this seemed to her like planned work. She got out of the cab, and she could vividly see the inscription "The Li Corporation" boldly written on the third-floor front wall of the building. At first, it never crossed her mind that the company could be her ex-boyfriend's family corporation.
"I am Wu Rong, P.A. to President Wei." The lady
introduced herself to Fang, beaming with a smile.
Now Fang had a clearer picture of what was going on, especially as the cab drove off immediately after she got out of the car. Her ex-boyfriend had asked the cab driver to go pick her up, and Fang had been clueless all along.
Li Wei had made his financial secretary make that call about him wanting Fang at his office, claiming there was an emergency at the office and claiming to be her boss's young brother, Li Jun.
Since she hadn't talked on the phone with Li Jun before now, it was almost impossible to figure out if he was the one talking or not.
"You are Li Wei's PA?" She was surprised.
"Yes. President Wei is in his office waiting to have a word with you," Wu Rong responded, beaming with a smile.
Without wasting a minute more with Wu Rong, Fang asked her to lead the way to Wei's office.
*******
"Wow! Look who we have here! I never thought you could come, but here you are." Wei said, grinning at her.
"Why do you have to do what you did? So you are still this mean? I never expected you to change anytime soon, though. So tell me, why did you bring me here through one of your cunning measures?"
"Cunning you see it as, but it was just a simple, masterminded strategic method put into bringing you here. It's all good that you are here now. So how have you been coping?" He feigned concern.
"Can you just stop all these pretenses and tell me why you implored your so-called masterminded strategy into bringing me here?" She fired at Li Wei.
This time around, she was seriously mad at Li Wei. If she were a witch, with the height of hatred she now had for Li Wei, she could put an end to his stay on earth.
"You are such a good looker this morning, you could make a super hit in Li Wei's corporation." He sarcastically complimented her beauty.
"You know what... You are still as foolish as the very first day I knew you. My goodness! What did I ever see in you? I must have been bewitched by you."
"Well, you are right, though... You were bewitched by love. You got carried away by my good looks. You fell in love with me, and I am sure you are still deeply in love with me." He sniggered wickedly.
She rolled her eyes at him. If a mere glance could kill someone, Wei would have been dead while standing. But no, Fang could not murder him with her eyes.
Weird," she muttered.
She had been trying to contain her anger, but it seemed like Wei was trying to make her unleash it all on him. It would be too bad and foolish if she acted the way Wei was pushing her to, seeing that she was in his office and not anywhere else.
"Ooh, weird, right? Is alright. I brought you here to discuss something very important with you that would transform your life forever".
After talking, he waited for Fang's reply, and when he didn't get any response from her, she decided to speak more.
"Or better still, I have a big plan for you if only you would want to grab it and thank me later after everything".
"Wei, you and I know that you never wanted anything good for me; what has changed now, or what are you up to?"
"Hey! Is that what you think of me?"
"Wei, I am not interested. Take your help elsewhere. She said it with a harsh tone.
"You haven't even listened to what I have to say. Okay, here are my plans for you. First, I would like you to stop working on that hotel. Then I'll help you with some money to start up a lucrative business for you. What do you think?"
"I can see you are going senile." I should quit my job because of your stupid offer to help me. Did I ever tell you I needed your help? If I am desperately in need of financial assistance, I know exactly where to get it, certainly not from you, Wei."
"How on earth do you expect me to accept your offer when you never tried to do so when we were dating? There are a lot of people out there who need generous people like you. Do well to help them out."
"Fang, I know I never assisted you in any way back then. But I just realized I didn't do anything for you, so I said to myself that it's never too late to be useful to someone so special as you. Please accept me so that I can be at peace with myself." He talked while in tears.
"I know I hurt you so badly. I'm deeply sorry for that. Mind you, I am not trying to do this because I want you back. I just think it's the right thing to do. You are a good person, and you deserve the best. I never came back for you to reconcile and be an item again because I knew you deserved someone better than me.
Li Wei had always wanted Wang Fang to stop working at the hotel. He thinks that the girls that work there do have prominent customers who do have their way with them. That had contributed to why he never trusted Fang in the first place. It didn't occur to him to help her get another source of income. All he wanted was for Fang to get a job when he was not being supportive.
Wei can best be described as someone who was being too manipulative toward Fang.
All along, Fang had always wanted Wei to help her out with so many things that have to do with finance. But that was when they were still dating. Pride had not allowed her to ask him for assistance. She didn't want to be called a gold digger or something of that nature.
As of now, Fang is still in need of financial help, but pride and anger won't allow her to accept Wei's mouth-watering offer.
"If this is the reason you sent the cab guy to bring me here, fine, I don't need your help. I will be fine. Meanwhile, I have to get going."
"hold on. Why not think about the offer and get back to me?" Wei Suggested
"There is nothing to think about, Wei. I love my job, and even if I have to quit, I won't do that because of your offer. I am out of here."
"A minute, please. I will have my driver take you home."
"Never mind, I know how to get back to my house. Kudos, Mr. Masterminder," she said sarcastically.
Just as she was about to leave his office, he held her hand and pulled her back to himself.
"You just have to stop acting Stubborn. The fang that I am used to isn't the stubborn one. So stop acting to be who you are not. Okay?"
He said this while still holding onto her hand.
"People do change, right? Let's just say Wei
was not a stubborn girl. But I am now. And I don't find it any funny that you're holding my hand, so let go of me." She said at the top of her voice and let go of her hands from Wei's
She walked out of his office, contemplating how to get home. She doesn't know her way around that area because she has never been there before. Wei had not taken her to his office when they were still dating, so it wasn't her fault that she was clueless about the place.
