With the phone glued to her ear, Seraphina paced around the room with a dreary look on her face.
She had the big envelope with the marriage contract, and her bags were packed, all that was left was for Sebastian to come pick her up and take her out of this place but he wasn't picking up his calls nor was he replying to any of her texts.
She had sent him a thousand texts already.
"Please, please, please," She mumbled to herself as she dialed his number again.
It began to ring,
She swiftly placed it on her right ear and proceeded to clean her sweaty forehead with her palms but it did no good as her palms were also sweaty.
"Shit!"
Her heart was in a rapid race and a sense of unease consumed her every thought.
The amount of anxiety she was feeling was on another level.
Ethan was not back yet from wherever he went.
'he shouldn't be till I'm out of here' she thought to herself, shaken up.
*The number you are calling is not reachable at the moment, please try again later*
"uh!" Seraphina groaned exasperatedly.
She tossed the phone on the bed and bit her lower lip in frustration,
She instantly froze and her eyes stared into space as the scenes of yesterday flashed through her mind.
'what if they are together'
Sebastian and Gabriela?
Her face fell into a deep frown at the thoughts that raided her mind.
She shook her head continuously to wipe the thoughts out but it only got worse as her mind wandered off to the worst of it all.
'Did I get abandoned?'
She quivered at the thought.
She began to pace around again, her gaze fixed on the soft marble of the floor as she went to and fro, lost in deep thoughts.
It didn't make any sense, but her mind wouldn't stop pondering on that one query of a thought.
Did she really get abandoned?
Her eyes flickered with apprehension.
"That's just a stupid assumption
Don't think too much about it, Seraphina"
she purred to herself.
"I have to get out of here now" she added in a hushed tone, her eyes gracing around.
She could get a taxi.
'Yeah, a taxi'
Instantly, she rushed to grab her phone and started to book a taxi.
...
*click clack*
The sound of her heels echoed loudly in the sterile passageway of the hospital.
Mrs. Emily Coleman, dressed in loose, bulky suits, click-clacked on, with her eyes inspecting the room numbers, with an intense and fiery glare.
'Room 12' 'room 12'
She kept reminding herself, in her thoughts.
She abruptly halted, and her nostrils flared up.
"There it is," She murmured to herself.
Without wasting any more time, she flung the door open and burst through.
The corners of her mouth turned up as she took in the sight of exactly who she was here for, sprawled out on the bed.
She started to strut over,
"Someone would think you got shot in the head or something. Don't you think you are doing too much, little old woman" Emily uttered with a snicker
Charlotte turned and glared at her, a perplexed look on her face, wondering who the woman was to refer to her in that manner.
"Who are you?" Charlotte queried hoarsely as she slowly sat up wincingly.
"What a poor soul, does it still hurt?" Emily asked with a sardonic laughter.
Charlotte slowly turned to face Emily, her face engulfed in a deep frown
"Who the hell are you and just what do you want?" she asked with a hint of frustration.
Emily gave a soft malicious giggle.
She walked closer to Charlotte on the bed, who had her eyes fixated on Emily, watching her every move with a visibly confused expression on her pale face.
Charlotte had just started physical therapy to regain strength and mobility in her injured leg.
As the days went by, Charlotte would always wake up in the morning with the hope that someone would pay her a visit.
She has been stuck all by herself in this hospital entirely oblivious of the ruins her home was in.
"Serena and Dorcas Coleman" Emily uttered, her eyes wearing a deep, heavy look.
She stared at Charlotte like she could see through her soul.
Charlotte's body trembled. She was trying hard to remember where she had heard those names from. They rang a bell in her but she couldn't quite pinpoint it.
Emily squinted her eyes as they rested on the confused expression on Charlotte's face.
"Apparently, my youngest daughter, Dorcas, was the one who shot you in the leg at your son's supposed wedding" She breathed in a sardonic tone
Charlotte's nostrils flared.
Her face fell into a haunted gaze.
"And my eldest daughter, Serena, killed your husband," Emily added.
She instantly jolted backward, startled by the sudden yelp that came from Charlotte.
"What sort of madness are you ranting on about!" the room vibrated with Charlotte's loud shaky query.
'Edward? Dead? That's absurd!'
Charlotte's lips trembled,
She struggled to utter yet another query but it was all abortive.
"Don't force it" Emily hissed
"I see that you weren't informed"
Charlotte gazed hard at her with a bug-eyed expression.
"Your husband, Edward Sullivan, is dead!" Emily ranted with a dismissive tone.
Abruptly she turned and made her way to the door, leaving a bewildered Charlotte whose eyes were gloomily widened with her mouth dropped open.
"That's all for today, I will be back" Emily uttered.
With a wink, she walked out of the room with Charlotte screaming after her,
Nurses came rushing in, they all glanced at Emily unpleasantly as they rushed to the distressed Charlotte whose screams were almost tearing the hospital down.
Emily giggled as she walked on.
She tucked her hand in the bag crossed over her shoulders, and brought out her phone.
She dialed a number and swiftly placed it on her ear.
"Hello"
"Seraphina Steele. This is Emily Coleman. I would like to meet you" …
