"Once again, there's sorrow as more children have gone missing from one of the villages. This time, just after the first round of the tournament of supernaturals in small village under the rule of the Truedales. This uprising has caused so much of an alarm that our rulers has decided to come together with every major security head to discuss the issue."
"Every investigative office are working as hard as they can to find out who is behind these recent happenings for the past years unending and are.." The news was turned off by a woman gaining the attention of her son.
"Come eat your breakfast." She said and he got up from the couch and made his way to the dining area.
"These cases have gotten out of hand." The lady said seated on a finely made dining table. She looked at her family which was made incomplete three years ago due to the same case of disappearance. Her husband was seated on the other end of the table. He had on a suit ready to leave for work. She had a somewhat saddened look on her face..
"It's all strange, don't you think?" She asked with a tone of concern. She had her dark brown hair tied up in a bun and looked at her husband with her sad hazel nut eyes. "I mean why only children?"
"That question you clearly do not expect me to have an answer to." He said and put his food in his mouth not wanting to ruin his morning with what was going on. In their midst was their only son, Darius who had dark brown hair like his mother and sleepy green eyes like his father.
He too was disturbed about the missing children, especially because his older sister was one of those whom were kidnapped. He sat quietly and ate his breakfast with his family. His father hurriedly ate, while his mother only pushed her food around.
After breakfast, Darius' father looked at the watch in his hand showing a digital image of the time and made to leave the house. "Honey, I'm leaving now." He said to his wife, and to his son who stood next to him, he said "Take care of the house and your mother, champ."
"Of course I will, I always do." Darius responded and slapped his father's five before he left.
Darius played around the house for a while with the loads of toys he had, while his mother completed some basic chores around the house.
When she was done, she lay to rest on the king-sized bed in her room with her eyes closed. Darius would move past her room from time to time and glance at her through the slightly open door. Finally summoning the courage, he went up to her. Standing beside her bed, he looked at her tired face and called out softly.
"Mom? Mom? Mom?"
"What is it?" She asked still with her eyes closed. Her voice almost sounded as if she was grumbling.
"Can you please take me out today? I, I want to go to the park." He asked in a soft voice. Ever since his sister was taken away, he had been denied stepping foot outside if it wasn't school. It had been two years now and all he does is got to school or stay indoors. He isn't even allowed to sit outside the doors of their house.
"No, I won't take you out. Go play with your toys or something." She replied.
"But, mom, I've been in my room for so long it feels suffocating. I haven't gone anywhere for three years now, neither have i seen my friends." He whined.
"What do you mean? You go to school, don't your have friends there?"
"Yes, but I only see them during school days. And, I never get to see much of the world. I only get into the already waiting train that shows up on top of our building, sucks me in through a tube, takes me directly to the school's gate and back to their house. It moves so fast, I can barely see a thing when I look through the glass."
"Darius, you know why you can't go out. It's not safe out there." She argued. Though she understood what he must have been feeling been locked up in his home with limited socialization with humans. But, she didn't want to lose him like she did her daughter.
"I know you're worried I'll be taken away as well, but that won't happen. Darius promises to always be by your side. You can even tie a chain around our hands, handcuffs, anything, so you can be assured that I'm by your side."
"We don't even have to go to the park, we could just take a walk around the neighborhood. I just really want to go outside. Please mom." He begged making puppy dog eyes. He had been asking her this for weeks hoping she would give in and it seems today is the day.
Sighing, she got up from her laying position. "Fine, I'll take you outside. But, you must not leave my side at any cost. Hold onto my hands tightly, okay?" She said and got a smiley face and multiple nods from her now overly excited son.
"Thank you, mom!" He said and jumped on her body. She smiled and hugged him back.
Soon to his demands the mother and son were seen walking in the streets of the city. And because of the suggestion he made, she had bought handcuffs and wore them around her right hand and his left hand while still holding onto him. Anyone would have easily thought she was being an overly protective mother, but, after the recent happenings, her action was understandable.
Finally after three years, Darius got to take a walk in the city again. "I forgot just how big the city is, look how big those buildings are mom!" Darius said in astonishment as he watched the place. It was as if he never been here before and was seeing the place for the first time.
Due to the last war mankind had which had destroyed most of the land the people had to live on and polluted most of the ones left to the point where they were uninhabitable and just left bare. There was now more sea coverage and the people were forced to build taller buildings, with numerous apartments, cities were built in the sky and on waters.
The water cities were more rampant in the part of the world ruled by the Dillons, one of the Kings. Currently, Darius and his family lived in one of the cities under the Truedale's land which had more sky cities as well.
Tall, magnificently built buildings of light powered by the sun were abundant. "Woah!" Darius exclaimed looking at a tornado shaped tower. How it stands, he had no idea. "This wasn't even here before!" He said with gleam in his eyes.
"Good morning, Mrs Sundin, long time no see." An old friend and neighbor greeted his mother.
"Christiana, how are you?!" Darius' mother smiled back. As they exchanged pleasantries, he looked about the city. Far off in the distance, he could see the city's largest stadium hovering in the air. Beneath it was a tower taking the form of the stem of a tree and the stadium itself looking like leaves. He instantly remembered when he, his mother, father and sister would go out to watch sporting events. Ever since her disappearance, they hadn't gone there or anywhere together again.
Cars no longer had wheels and rather hovered about on the roads as people drove to their various destinations. Trains moving with with the speed of beam would pass through the tracks that circled in the air around the buildings. There were domes built where green life bloomed. Even by the sides of the walkway, greenery and flowers were let to grow, although always nicely trimmed. The natural things seemed to add more beauty to scenery.
At the centre of the city was a tall tower which went up to the sky and spread at the top top like the branches of a tree, leading to a more glorious city. It had two roads built like bridges leading from it to the city on land, but these roads were closed unless someone wished to return from there. It was very hard for people to move from the land to the sky cities. Tubes numbering up to five made for easier transportation as well travelled through both cities.
From the sky city always flowed a stream of water down like a waterfall into the ocean just beneath it. Everyone wondered how such an endless amount of water was up there anyway, still it looked beautiful. Cars that could hover constantly flew about in the sky cities.
The city was bustling with life, light and music. Darius was exceptionally happy to get a feel of it once more.
