Chapter 1 - Let the games begin

There was eeriness about the darkness that covered the room. Its design and placement made it obvious it was a throne room. It had five high seats placed at the end of it. On the walls on both sides of the room hung several wooden sticks with blue brightly glowing crystals attached to them. They were the only source of light in the room. Several paintings filled the walls but they were hard to see due to the limited lighting in the room.

Currently, on all five seats, four men and one woman sat comfortably. They each had on their heads crowns of gold with other embedded crystals, all designed differently. Each one of them gave an aura of greatness so much so the people around them found it hard to look them in the eyes. The five seats were up on a small platform with steps leading up to it. In the centre of the platform was a book on top of a podium. Flames that never seemed to go off constantly circled over the book.

At the end of the steps leading to the stage like platform where the assumed Kings and Queen sat, was a man who was down on one knee with his head lowered. He bowed in respect. " I await your orders," he said in a soft submissive voice which echoed through the walls of the room.

"The clock is ticking and time... is not on your side." One of them men spoke and let out a huff of air from his nostrils. Those few words he said in his deep voice could scare any person in the same room with him. Every movement he made sounded so loud in the ears of the young man whom after bowing his head still had his eyes shut.

"I deeply apologize for my mistakes in carrying out the last few tasks. I promise you this time, I will not fail. I will deliver as much as required." The man responded. He chose to be calm whilst talking and to show respect when in their presence or his life would be gone before he can blink an eye.

"Very well then, do not disappoint us." With a snap of their fingers, the man vanished from their presence.

"Mother, Father, Hurry! The tournament for supernaturals is about to begin!" A young boy called out, ecstasy evident in his voice. He stood in front of his home running about and moving excitedly. It was the first time in a long time the people of this village would get to witness something like this and everyone was excited to get to watch. A lot of homes were left empty as families moved to the arena for the event. A lot of nobles, even the King will be in attendance.

"Malakai!" A friend of his called out to him.

"Alfred!" He said and ran to meet his skinny, dark haired, blue eyed friend.

"What are you doing jumping around, aren't you coming for the tournament?" Alfred asked.

"I am. My parents are taking so much time to come out, I wonder what they're doing in there," Malakai replied.

"Alfred honey, come along," a woman called out to the little boy.

"Coming mother!" He replied. "Well I'm going now, do get there on time." Alfred waved him goodbye and returned to his parents side.

Malakai went back to his home and pushed the door open. "Can we leave already?!" He shouted as he walked in to find his parents walking towards him.

"We're done, let's go." His mother said and held his hand while they walked out of the house. Malakai moved fast pulling on his mother's arm.

"Malakai, stop it. Do you want her to fall?" His father reprimanded.

"She's walking too slow, you both are." Malakai pouted his lips and folded his arms. His parents were not willing to move as fast as he wanted and he had to accept it. They wouldn't just run around because he wished for it.

The streets were really busy as people moved and chattered continually about the tournament for supernaturals. Most of them were excited to see the King. It was surprising to have him visit the village when he could be enjoying the lavishness of the city.

Whereas everything in the village seemed rather old-fashioned, calm and normal, the cities were vastly developed. Skyscrapers, hovering vehicles, floating cities even, but also, a very high cost of living. Those who couldn't live in the cities would stay back in the villages. If one were to move between the city and village, it would be as if travelling to the future and past. Only, this past had a lot of futuristic devices.

The world government actively worked together under four rules for peace and harmony. No longer did they wish for constanst wars. Half of the human race has already been lost due to the last one, so why not stick together this time?

"Come on! Let's find a good place to seat." Malakai said and pulled on his mother's arm as they arrived. Though, the village was considered poor when compared to the standards of the city, it did have good infrastructures and well built structures. Currently, people trooped into a very large stadium for the tournament.

In this village would begin the first part of it. Whomever won the contest would be taken along to the city where they would compete with others and get the price of becoming a supernatural. No one really knew if they would get to meet the 'god' the government made them believe is behind their prosperity or if the rulers themselves were behind it.

Walking into the arena the Windhams looked for a seat. Malakai caught sight of empty spaces right next to his friend's family.

"Let's go over there!" He pointed out in their direction to his parents.

"It does have a nice view." His mother commented and walked with him. The family got there and greeted each other. Their parents were already friends before the children were born, so they were very close.

"You made it!" Said Alfred with a wide smile etched in his face. The boys looked at the large building bustling with people whom were all excited for the event to take place. As they sat, more and more people trooped in.

In the centre was an open space where the contestants would compete. It was set up with different obstacles to get through. They would begin by getting around flamy roads, then heading out to defeat three giant robotic humans, fight through monstrous beasts and then battle against themselves to get the flag which was at the end of the stage. Each time they would move, the path would change into some sort of maze.

The participants had already prepared for this and were given all the armory required. Still, it would be useless if you had no skill backing you up. One of the downsides was the participants were known to the lose their lives, but having witnessed it happen different times and being too focused on the excitement of the game, people paid little attention to the loss.

"It's been so long since they held one of these in the village. It's nice to see this happen again." Malakai's father said to his wife.

"I'm so excited to see the battle!" Alfred shrieked. Malakai couldn't agree more.

The event was soon to start with the introduction of the King and the Lords.

"Ladies and gentlemen, the tournament of supernaturals has officially begun!" The announcer said with a roaring cheer from the audience. "Gracing us with their presence, we have in our midst, Lord Hunter, Lord Ronald, Lord Rohan and the great King Roderick!" He announced. An even louder uproar from the crowd was heard as the cameras projected the King and his Lords all seated in their reserved space almost at the very top of the stadium with a see through glass covering their space.

The King waved at the people whilst seated on his specially crafted seat and the Lords sat behind him. They all had smug looks on their faces. As soon as the camera was removed from them, the king took in an abnormally long deep breath with his eyes closed. His mouth began watering a bit.

"All fresh and pure, I can't wait." He muttered with widened eyes like a mad man getting a very euphoric feeling. "I need to control myself." He mumbled and cleared his throat. He looked around and an evil smile spread across his lips.

"Let the games begin."
