Chereads / The Barons Sloth System / Chapter 8 - Returning

Chapter 8 - Returning

"Oh. Do they? I haven't heard that before so I don't know." I told her before focusing a bit and realizing that she did have a core as I could sense some mana in her.

"Oh. You really did activate your core. You have almost as much mana as my elder sister." I commented as I checked, feeling a similar feeling to when I checked my sister.

"Say, how old are you?" I asked before realizing. "No, even better, what's your name?"

"U-um. I-I'm Luna… I-I'm 9 years old…" Luna responded after a bit of mumbling.

"Luna huh?" I said unconsciously as I wondered about the Irony of Moon naming their daughter a name meaning moon. At least according to the quest they system gave.

"Alright, let's go see the local noble then and see if they'll hire you." I said.

"A-ah… R-right now?" Luna asked.

"Didn't you want a job? I thought you were confident they would hire you?" I asked, once again annoyed by Luna dragging out the task. 'It's just a simple task. Go to the mansion and get hired.' I thought as I verbally dragged her along.

By the time we got to the town square, I could practically feel Luna sweating buckets.

"I-I don't think… I can do this…" Luna said, her voice and body shaking as she still held the black cat in one of her arms while I held her other hand and guided her through the town.

"Don't be so timid. How are you gonna get anywhere like that? Imagine trying to get across a bridge and you have to pay a toll. Are you just gonna stand at the side too scared to talk to the guard?" I asked in frustration as she was overly nervous. It was a normal thing for commoners to go up to the noble's estate for various reasons. The main one was recruitment, if the nobles didn't let commoners introduce themselves then they were unlikely to ever find talents. In this world, talents were incredibly important since unlike on Earth, a talented knight here could beat a small army by themselves and was thus worth over a thousand untalented mobs.

Soon enough, we were in sight of the guards at the gate of the estate.

"I-I don't think. W-We shouldn't…" Luna kept stuttering the whole time as we approached the stone gatehouse.

"Why are you so worried? What do you think is the worst that can happen?" I asked, seeing she was clearly far too nervous.

"I-I don't know! It's just… bad…" She responded.

"If you don't know it evidently wasn't important which means it can't be that bad." Just like that, we continued up to and straight past the guards.

"A-aren't they gonna stop us? D-don't we n-need permission…" Luna sked, holding onto my hand so tightly she must have been using mana enhancement.

"Why would I need permission whe-"

"STOP RIGHT THERE!" a familiar voice wrang out. I sighed as I looked up at Alex, who was holding a wooden sword up to me.

"I'm not fighting-" I tried to say, only to be cut off by a sudden force pulling back on my hand holding Luna's. I was pulled back while my sister ignored me and jumped up several meters with her sword raised.

"Tch" I unconsciously spat while thinking, 'You're both annoying!'.

In response to my thoughts my core already started cycling mana in my body as I activated my own physical enhancement to a little more than needed.

My back foot quickly braced to prevent Luna from pulling me over, also preventing her from running away. Meanwhile I raised my right hand, caught my sister's wooden sword and kicked her in the gut with my free leg.

Luna had run away too fast and fell down from being suddenly stopped by my hand while Alex was kicked several meters back with her sword still in my grip. True to the battle maniac she was though, she landed perfectly on her feet and was ready to go again regardless of the accidental fracture I gave her. I wasn't worried though since this world had a hundred different magical remedies for fractured bones that could fix them in under an hour.

"You're both hopeless." I couldn't help but say to Alex and Luna, who was just getting back to her feet, still holding my hand. I could feel her violent shaking and had to ask. "What are you shaking so much for?"

"Y-you. You just kicked a noble!" She practically yelled. At the very least it was a yell compared to the volume she had been talking to me with thus far.

'Eh? Didn't I already tell her I'm a noble or something?' I wondered before realizing. 'Ah. I haven't even told her my name have I…'

Before I could speak though, my sister dispelled all doubt.

"Heh! Let's go again little brother." She yelled from several meters away, pulling out a wooden dagger from who knows where.

"Eh? Brother?" Luna explained.

"Mhm. I thought I told you before. I'm Dirken Han Vowser, only son of Baron Vowser who's the lord of this barony." I introduced myself, using my overwhelming physical strength from using mana to catch my sister's arm despite her superior technique in the way she tried to stab me. Similarly I also ignored the kick to the head she gave, as my resistance became high enough after using mana, while I kept my focus on Luna who must have gotten frightened or something as she had some small tears in the corner of her eyes.

"O-oh… Y- you didn't tell me before…" Luna said, wiping her tears away. While I didn't show anything, I couldn't help but think, 'She's… Adorable… Way too cute, like a little kitten. It's at a dangerous level in fact.'

"Ah. Sorry then. I must have gotten distracted. I do that a lot. Sorry." I apologized as I threw my elder sister across the courtyard between the gate and mansion. "Anyway. Let's see if my father will hire you." I continued, still holding her hand as I led her into the mansion and through the halls, escaping my sister by using the accelerate spell, which I had now found worked with anyone I was holding. As such we walked away 8 times faster than normal while my sister was maybe only half as fast while running.

Soon enough, I arrived outside my fathers office with Luna and knocked.
