Chereads / Hunter of Artemis / Chapter 5 - Jake's Determination

Chapter 5 - Jake's Determination

Jake got to know everything from the 'Memory Book'. He understood why Joseph didn't say anything about this. There is a page of Joseph too, in which his memories clearly state what he did and why he did.

Though he knew that Jake's parents were betrayed by their friend, who later played as a helping friend, Joseph put up with the charade. He is by no means powerful enough to fight the betrayer. He wanted the betrayer to think that he was in the dark about his masters' deaths.

Moreover, he wanted to save the young master who is still alive. He showed all the assets left behind, to show that they don't possess the treasure he was looking for. He wanted to get away from the betrayer's sight and it worked.

For a few months, the betrayer kept his eyes on them, but when no results showed, the betrayer left.

In addition to that, Joseph wanted Jake to grow up like a child. He didn't want to destroy the innocence of a child.

The matters regarding Jake's parents can wait till he is old enough. Back then he decided to tell about them when he reached sixteen. After all, it is when a child goes through an awakening process and is considered an adult, but Joseph died before that could happen.

---

When Jake learned about his parents' true cause of death, something cracked in his heart. He then decided that he would hunt that bastard and everyone associated with him down.

Jake knew that his relatives started to keep away from him after his parents died. Even his cousins who used to play together started to keep away from him. As they grew they started to bully him, but to his solace, he made a friend, Thea.

She was a like light guiding him through the darkness. She was what helped him to move forward. In the beginning, he used to cry and tell the old man about it but as he started to grow, he understood that the old man had too many things to do so he started to put on a fake mask of being happy for the old man's sake.

The facade broke when he learned how his parents died. He wanted nothing else but to barge out and hunt down the monster but he was stopped when he heard a female voice.

At first he didn't understand, what was happening. He even saw some flying text in front of his face. He tried to swipe them away but his hands just passed through them.

He freaked out and shouted for a while. If not for the sound isolation in the house and the huge size of the house, the neighbors would have heard the shouts.

It took some time for the voice to calm down Jake. The voice then explained itself.

The voice is like a tutorial A.I. with some presets on how to interact with rookies. It explained its purpose and how to start his hunter journey.

At first, Jake didn't believe it but when it showed the projection of the treasure inside him, his opinion changed. This is the same treasure for which his parents were betrayed and killed. It has been with him all this time.

The voice also told some secrets about the treasure. The true treasure is separated into twelve parts and it is only one part. The condition for its activation is blood.

When the blood of the user is placed on the part, it then merges with the user. Only another user of one of the twelve can kill another user to obtain the part they were merged with. If someone else kills, the part disappears from the body and merges with the dead user's descendant.

When Jake's parents died, the one who killed them, accidentally smeared their blood on the object and so it got activated. When it got activated, they were dead and so the object disappeared and merged with their descendant and that is Jake.

It stayed dormant inside him. The only reason it appeared now is that his will is good enough to learn about its existence.

The voice then explained about the benefits it gives. Each part bestows the user with the blessings of the god it is associated with. This part is associated with the Goddess of Hunt, Artemis.

It later explained how to proceed with his life. The choices to make during the awakening ceremony for the best benefits. These choices would have been different if others had gained access to the treasure.

After a good chat with the voice, it said that it would disappear unless a new host appeared.

Jake decided to continue the facade he was putting in school all this time. The only time he was ever happy was when he spent time with Thea. He understood the gravity of what he had to do in the future.

To avenge the death of his parents, he has to be strong. The one who betrayed his parents was already strong back then. He didn't know if that person found any of the other ten or not. There is a chance that he did find them and also unlocked how to use them.

If that is the case then, he would have become a top power ranker. Even if he didn't, a decade is far enough time for an increase in power.

In any case, to face him directly would be like an ant challenging a mountain. In a direct face-off, the outcome would be predictable. The only way is to slowly chip off the power of the betrayer, like an ant burrow a hole by removing one grain of sand at a time.

For that to happen, Jake needed to have at least a decent amount of power.

From that moment, he started to train as per the voice's advice. He hoped that it wasn't a child's illusion. He waited almost two years and now after awakening, he was sure about the power.

With the blessing Jake got, he can power up as fast as possible. Whatever the rank the betrayer might be, in a few years at most, he was sure to bring the betrayer down.

He decided to start the Survival World the next morning, after all the device would only arrive in the morning for him.

Everyone will see the beginning of a new hero, no...not a hero...the beginning of the hunter.
