Chapter 12 - The Preparation

Kairos and his party were in the center of the training ground, and all of the adventurers were watching them for a while. Taking advantage of the situation, Kairos shouts,

"Everyone, I know we're in a hurry, but without any preparation, we won't be able to do anything properly. Do a quick check on all your belongings. Assume that we will fight a very long fight. We gathered here again in 30 minutes."

All of them, including the warriors, then proceeded to check whether they had missed something. Some of them run to a food shop to buy rations and water, an equipment shop to buy some equipment, or an item shop to buy something.

Meanwhile, at Kairos's party, Icarus ran outside to find a toilet, while Bernard was also holding it in his stomach. Thanks to the goddess of fate, he doesn't need to shout it out loud like Icarus did.

Bernard said to the party, "I'll go outside for a bit."

Kairos nods to him, and then he also does a quick check and takes out his sword, which was sheathed on his waist.

Kairos mumbled, "It's kinda dull."

The blade was dull on the left side, so he took out the whetstone from his backpack and started to sharpen the dull part.

The princess is also doing a quick check. Cithrel opened up her pocket bag, which hung on the right side of her slim waist. It contained bandages, ropes, which were about five meters long, and some rations. She then counted the arrows that she had in the horsebag.

Cithrel said, "How much ration do you bring in your bag, sir knight?"

Kairos replied, "I bring enough for all five of us; it should be able to hold on for five days."

Cithrel asked, "Will the fight last that long?"

Kairos replied, "I'm taking very minimal precautions here. You read the letter, but you haven't seen how big the smoke is yourself."

Cithrel gulped in deeply, but Meyeri then walked toward Kairos and punched the top of Kairos's head hard while saying

"Don't say anything worse than what it actually is!"

Kairos replied in a playful, aggressive manner, "What do you know? You don't even bring anything when we're going to war!"

Meyeri replied cheekily, "You always bring too much, since it is going to rot anyway. I could always take the meal from you."

The princess chuckled. "Hahaha. Were both of you always this close?"

Kairos and Meyeri glared at her and replied synchronously, "Huh?"

After that, Kairos continued sharpening his blade while Meyeri was talking with Cithrel about how she massacred a group of monsters with her lightning magic. Then Bernard and Icarus returned. Bernard said

"I found a store nearby that sells some items for adventurers. It might come in handy."

He brought ten smoke bombs and flares and shared them with the party equally.

Kairos said, "Good thinking, Bishop Bernard. If we want to do a night skirmish, we'll certainly need this."

He also went to his bag and took out some of the healing herbs that he had brought. Then Bernard said,

"I was going to go to the village before, so I took out many healing herbs. You guys need to put this in your pocket; just crush it and put it on your wound; it will heal the wound quickly."

Icarus said, "But you could heal us anyway. Why do we need that?"

Kairos said, "We will be on the frontlines. The three of us will tank for the party. He might not have a chance to heal us in combat, and there would also be a possibility when his lumine ran out because of the overuse of magic."

Bernard said, "Yes, as the captain said. But I will do my utmost to make myself available to heal anyone injured. Even if they're not from our party."

Bishop Bernard then went to take the rest of his luggage and grab the horse. Meyeri put the herbs in her pocket. Cithrel put the herbs inside her pocket bag and then leapt on her white horse.

While waiting for Bishop Bernard, Icarus now realizes how crucial Bishop Bernard is in this war. He was confused at the decision that Kairos made when he approved the bishop to tank in front of us.

"Why do we need to put our lifeline in danger?" Icarus said.

Kairos replied, "He is strong. Stronger than me. We need his strength in our party to help tank in front of our archer and witch. We need to do more so his hand won't be full. By the way, you don't have a horse with you."

Not all of the warriors there could have horses since it's pricy, but as the leading party, they need to be at the front to not only kill and tank the most, they also need to scout. It's the responsibility of the one with power. Therefore, a horse is a bare necessity to save their energy.

Icarus replied, "Yes, I don't."

Kairos then teased him, whispering, "So you should go with the princess?"

Icarus's face was red like a ripe tomato. Bishop Bernard then arrived with his horse. "What took you guys so long?"

While this happened, Meyeri proceeded to talk to the princess a bit and went for a ride with her on her white horse.

Kairos replied, "Emm, there was something we were talking about. Let me grab my horse. Icarus, you can ride with me."

Then Kairos and Icarus walked together toward where Kairos had leashed his horse. While walking, Kairos whispered to Icarus,

"It's a shame, isn't it?"

Icarus doesn't reply. He is just a teenage boy who is shy around girls.

Kairos then went back to the group with Icarus and said, "Are we ready?"

Cithrel replied, "Whenever you are."

Meyeri replied, "Yes, of course!"

Bishop Bernard replied, "Let's go."

Then they all went forward, and Kairos shouted, "Everyone, let's march to victory!"

All the warrios replied with a loud and clear shout. Then they all proceed to tail behind Kairos's party to the place where they will fight to the death with the disaster that never happened before.
