Chapter 13 - Playing a Game

Fiery colored wings stretched out in the caverns beneath the front of a giant office structure. Valeraxa inspected the horrors of the labyrinth closer. Dark arcane and forbidden rituals long decreed as vile and against the draconic laws were being used in a most disturbing fashion. Her superior in this was even worse than she had first thought . Her job here was to improve upon these insane augmentations. It made her insides churn like nothing else.

Fire affinity draconians were tied to their emotions and wore them on their proverbial scales. Anger was always a problem to control , but she had to in this instance less she seem weak and deemed useless. It was a very tempered dance she had to play with her own psyche and her duties. She hated them for making her take on this monumental task , but she knew she was very capable of such an undertaking.

The workers also disgusted her because somehow they were alright with humans knowing about their secret society. Some humans mixed with depraved moralless draconians. She wondered how the humans were so perfectly calm under these conditions and revelations. Were they trained from birth she wondered. That would make the most sense. Growing up knowing a whole different world than the rest of their kind. Possible orphans snatched as babies . It was a mystery in and of itself .

Clawed feet met with rocks and metal sheets of a walkway as she continued down through the caverns on her uninterrupted search. She thanked Python she had has much sway in this organization as she did now. Finding out secrets and learning different aspects of things was what she did best. Living a few thousand years she was still much younger than a lot of the others , but she had wits and intelligence about her . This alone as well as some dumb luck had managed to help her excell beyond many of her peers.

Cursing as she seemed to go down a dead end and would have to maneuver her large frame around to go back. That was until she heard some odd noises with her extra sensitive hearing that her kind was gifted with. Some kind of whirring and possible liquids being shook around. The beeps of technology was easy to pick up being around it. Snorting and dragging her claws along the rocky sides of the cavernous walls she has finally found what she was looking for. A special carved sigil inscription in the stone . Slowly she began to chant and breathed a special kind of fire over the sigil. They were made to work in different ways such as with blood or even the elements.

Rocks crumbled and gave way as the wall of the dead end cavern opened . Lights shined from them in a bit of a dark neon glow as her eyes widened at what she saw before her. It revealed a lab of sorts full of technology and special tubes of liquid containing humans of all types in different stages of development. She huffed a low growl despite herself and had hoped no one would hear her. It seemed to be empty at the moment except for herself and the giant room of tube after tube of makeshift humans . Sigils adorned the floors and the walls in another sickening sight to behold.

What in the name of the ancients were they doing in this building . Besides that what are their goals for all of this she wondered. Nothing good could come of this she reasoned in any way shape or form. Were they planning some sort of army for something and if so what would they have to gain by that. The Draconians had taken over the world long ago and infiltrated every structure of human society in disguise. Her kind had everything and still greed knew no bounds with them because that is how they were after all. Still this all didn't make much sense to her.

Footsteps could be heard far away in the caverns seeming to possibly be coming towards the direction Valeraxa was in. Even if it wasn't to this room she still didn't want anyone to find out she knew about it quite yet. The horrific population in this underground city itself of obedient Draconians and humans being created. She had a serious problem on her hands. How would she do what was required for long with her own views and psyche at stake. Hurriedly she exited the room and repeated the process of the sigil to shut the secret room.

Two humans in hazmat suits jumped back as they watched the large dark and red dragon appear from the tunnel in front of them.

" This place is so big ," she uttered in her draconic accent that sounded like growls. " I keep getting lost down here. Would you two be so kind to show me around further so it doesn't happen again"?

One of the people simply nodded and pointed down the way. " We were heading to the ritual library to retrieve a book for Mr. Kain" Valeraxa's fangs shown in a genuine grin ." Now that definitely has piqued my interest" thinking a moment she added. " None of this bothers you at all "?

Head shaking in what she figured was a lack of any actual empathy or emotion. " No, mistress . We are merely here to serve his will. " This line rang throughout her being as an affront to everything. Even in eons gone by when dragons had been worshipped to a degree never did the people act like this. They seemed only static and void of any actual soul. Quite disturbing indeed , but she must keep her thoughts to herself lest her game be figured out.
