Chapter 1 - ARROGANT BOSS

VIVIAN'S POV

Cleaning is not an easy job at all. I was very tired when I got back from work.

I couldn't even make dinner, but I was so hungry that I had to order food with the money I was saving for house rent.

"I really need this job," I said to myself as I checked the website where I applied for jobs but did not find any response. I threw my phone on the other side of the bed.

As I lounged on my worn-out couch, engrossed in the TV show, an abrupt knock on the door jolted me back to reality. My heart skipped a beat, guessing it must be the delivery person I was expecting. I swiftly made my way to the door, and indeed, there he stood with my eagerly awaited meal. But despite the aroma wafting from the box, my mind was elsewhere, fixated on the tangled web of worries that seemed to entangle my every thought.

The landlord's relentless deadline loomed large, a mere two months away, and my modest salary for those two months was nothing more than a drop in the ocean. The magnitude of the financial burden I carried gnawed at me, and my appetite vanished like a mirage in the desert.

I decided to put the food aside and seek solace in a refreshing shower. As the water cascaded over me, I pondered my predicament. It was then that I decided to reach out to my colleague, hoping for some guidance or a glimmer of hope in this dark tunnel of uncertainties.

As I unlocked my phone, a notification caught my eye: "CONGRATULATIONS" in bold letters. My heart skipped a beat once again, but this time with a flicker of excitement. Without delay, I opened the message, and there it was: an employment letter—a potential lifeline amidst the turbulent sea of problems.

"Oh my goodness!" I gasped, my eyes widening with disbelief and joy. My hands trembled with excitement as I clutched the phone tightly, savouring every word of the job offer, a beacon of hope in the darkness of my current circumstances.

Reading each line carefully, I felt a surge of confidence and determination. My stomach, now filled with anticipation and joy, allowed me to devour the abandoned meal swiftly. With newfound motivation, I wasted no time and prepared the attire that would leave a lasting impression on my future boss. I aimed to appear not just neat but exceptional, determined to cement this opportunity for myself.

However, the night dragged on torturously. Each hour seemed like an eternity, and sleep evaded me, lost in the thrill of what the following day might bring. At last, as the clock struck 4 a.m., I couldn't bear the anticipation any longer. Springing out of bed, I hastily readied myself for the momentous day ahead.

My room was a chaotic mess, strewn with clothes, but I hardly cared. My focus was solely on securing this new job. In the predawn darkness, I set out with purpose, eager to be the first one to arrive at the office – an emblem of my unwavering dedication.

And so, with each step, I journeyed towards a turning point in my life, embracing the prospect of a brighter future as dawn broke and the world awakened to witness the unfolding of my destiny.

Remember, you haven't submitted your resignation letter." As that thought crossed my mind, I waved it off.

"If they don't see me again, then they will employ someone else," I said in my mind as I was stalked in the traffic.

It was already 7:28 am; all my plans had failed, and I was still trying to even get to the office on time.

"How many minutes to the location?" I asked the taxi driver, and he told me it was just ten minutes. I was relieved.

"What's the issue?" I asked him as the car stopped moving.

He said he couldn't figure out what the issue was. I was really disappointed and angry at the same time, and I couldn't wait for him to fix the car.

I waited for a few minutes but couldn't find another taxi. All I could see on the road were official cars, and I decided to trek to the location.

Since it was ten minutes for the taxi, it will be about 25 minutes for me because I walk so slowly, but in that situation I just had to top up my energy.

After some time, I got to the office, and I stood outside to clean up before going inside.

"Are you the new employee?" The receptionist asked me as I got inside. I nodded in agreement, and she directed me to the office that I would enter, but I was still sweating.

"Good morning, sir!" I greeted the man I met in the office. He faced the wall with a very tall and well-built body, and I couldn't wait for him to turn.

"Who are you, and why are you dressed like this in my office?" He asked me. I focused on his cute look and forgot how rude he sounded.

I tried explaining myself to him, but he wasn't taking any of it at all.

"I called you several times, and you ignored my call," he said, and I was shocked because I didn't receive any calls.

I dipped my hand inside my bag only to find out that my phone wasn't there.

"Damnnnnn! My phone!" I remembered that I left it on the car seat before coming down to look for another taxi.

"You are very careless, and I don't want to see you come to this office dressed like this tomorrow."

I was confused because it was my best outfit that I was putting on, so what else would I wear that he would like?

"There is a bathroom there; I want you to go inside there and take your bath because I don't want you to be smelling around me." His words were hitting me like a heavy hammer on my head, but I had no option but to obey whatever he said.

As I got home that evening, I sat on my bed as tears dropped from my eyes. The last word he said to me before I left the office was just ringing in my head.

"Now where will I even get money to buy a new phone because I need a phone at this point?" I asked myself, and I remembered that there was a cloth someone gifted me, but I had refused to wear it because I didn't like the person who gifted me the cloth.

I went to where I kept it and brought it out. I opened it, and it was really a nice dress that anyone would like.

"I will definitely get clothes this weekend from my rent money," I said to myself as I put on the dress, which was looking very good on me.

I went to make dinner because I couldn't sleep hungry after the long, bad day.

"I don't know how tomorrow will be at work since my first was this bad," I said to myself as I entered the kitchen and made dinner.

"I hope I don't get my ass sacked tomorrow," I said, smiling as I jumped on the bed.

"Gosh! I forgot what he told me to do, but no one did. My life is in shambles."
