"Lucas, you came back just in time. Please help me pick up Natasha."
As soon as he walked into the door, his mother's voice came from the kitchen. The scent wafting through the room made him realize that his house was different today. Lucas put on his shoes again and slowly walked out. He has to go get his sister.
The weather in autumn has been much calmer, and it is no longer hot. Lucas stood in front of the school gate, silently dialing the phone. He was completely oblivious to the fact that the other girls were staring at him. He soon got used to it. In school, there were not a few girls who had secretly admired him.
A gust of wind blew, bringing with it the sweet scent of buttermilk that made him raise his head involuntarily. It was a scent he could never forget. Natasha's scent.
"Big brother! How long have you been waiting for me?"
Natasha ran to Lucas, happily wrapping her arms around him. His cold face had a hint of warmth, reaching up and patting his sister's head. Natasha smiled brightly, her beautiful eyes narrowed. Fortunately, she wasn't held back by her friend for too long, otherwise, she would have kept her brother waiting for a long time.
"Go home. Mom is back today."
"Is that so? Lucky! I have something very important to tell Mom and Dad."
Lucas' steps slowed slightly, his hand in his pocket was also clenched tightly. What does Natasha want to talk to her parents about? Are you hiding from him too? Lucas involuntarily frowned. From childhood to adulthood, Natasha has never hidden anything from him, but now, she makes this mysterious appearance to him. He seemed to feel that he was being treated by Natasha as an outsider.
"Mom! Dad! We're back!"
Natasha entered the room and happily ran to hug Mr. Hence. Hence family can also be considered a well-off family. Natasha's parents are often out for work. There will be times when the two of them have to go on a business trip for a month or even a year. It's rare for both of them to come home like this.
"Everyone, I have something to tell you!"
In the middle of a family meal, Natasha took a deep breath. She considered a lot before she made this decision. Lucas was the first to lower his wand. To him, nothing in this world would be more important than Natasha's business, even if it was his own life and death.
"I already have a boyfriend! He wants to come to my house for dinner. I don't know…does everyone agree or not?"
The atmosphere immediately fell silent. No one expected that Natasha would have a boyfriend. Mrs. Hence was the most surprised one. As a mother, she knew nothing about this. Her worried eyes turned to Lucas, as if asking him if he knew about this. The only regret, in response to her, was Lucas's bewildered gaze.
Lucas didn't know Natasha had a boyfriend. She never mentioned this. Since when did Natasha have a boyfriend? In-school or out-of-school? Does he know her lover? Thousands of questions popped up in Lucas' head, making him unable to calm down. His lovely sister announced that she had a lover, and he was completely unaware.
Lucas stood up and silently left the table. He really couldn't swallow anything anymore. The feeling of being considered an outsider made it difficult for him to breathe. Although in this house, he was really an outsider, just an adopted son that was brought in. Ridiculous! Lucas mocked himself. What qualifications does he have to participate in Natasha's life?
Laying down on the large bed, Lucas squeezed his eyes shut. The pain made it impossible for him to breathe. The sound came from below the house. The joy of the family of three made Lucas realize that this was not the place for him. No matter how attached he is to the Hence family, he does not belong here.
Soon after, the sound of joy faded and disappeared, everything seemed to have returned to its inherent stillness. At this point, Lucas let out a breath, he sat up, trying to adjust his bad mood. Don't let anyone doubt it, he always told himself. No one will know, these negative feelings of his.
"Lucas, can I come into your room?"
Suddenly, Natasha's soft voice came from the other side of the closed door. Her voice was very low as if only he wanted to hear it.
"The door is not locked, you can come in. I told you, you can enter my room without asking permission."
Lucas lowered his voice. Not even his adoptive parents were allowed to step foot in his room. Natasha was the first, and also the only person he allowed to do this. In the end, his tenderness was only for her. It's just, maybe Natasha herself doesn't know this.
The door to the room was ajar, Natasha's small body trying to squeeze through the narrow gap. Lucas noticed that Natasha seemed to be holding something in her hand. Curiosity made him step closer to her.
"Please close the door. Mom didn't know I brought you a cake. If Mom sees it, she'll scold me."
A sweet strawberry cream cake was handled with great care Natasha. Her adorable expression made Lucas laugh. How could he forget, Natasha was always worried about him.
In the simply furnished room, Natasha sat on her brother's bed. The masculine scent circling around her nose made her a little embarrassed. Apparently, Natasha had never felt so embarrassed before. Even if she flirted with Lucas, letting him hug her to sleep, she didn't feel as embarrassed as she did now.
"It seems like my parents don't like me having a boyfriend."
Natasha sighed. She was no longer a child, a sixteen-year-old girl. But for unknown reasons, her parents did not want her to be in love. Natasha once dreamed of a beautiful love when she was in school. Yet before she could even begin to enjoy it, her parents were already against it.
"Really? Maybe it's because my parents are worried about you."
Lucas put the plate of cake on the table. He lowered his head and said nothing out of the ordinary. But Lucas knew he wasn't interested in Natasha having a lover either. His younger sister was innocent like this, so easy to be taken advantage of by some bastard.
"Lucas, can you help me advise my parents? It's just a meal…"
