"Lucas! Lucas!!!"
Natasha's call rang out from behind, but it didn't make Lucas' steps slow down. He walked on the schoolyard, in the warm afternoon sunlight. It was clear that the sunlight was so warm, but it made him feel so cold.
It wasn't until a small hand grabbed his arm that Lucas stopped. He turned his head, looked at Natasha's red and sweaty face, and couldn't help but sigh. Why is she here? She should have gone out with that guy.
"Why didn't you hear me call?"
Natasha pouted. She hugged Lucas' arm, just like when they were children. Remember before, whenever Lucas was angry with her about something, she would hug his arm and act spoiled. Of course, Lucas would always forgive her, no matter how much she angered him.
"Sorry, I was thinking about today's exam."
Lucas made up an excuse. He looked away, not wanting to meet Natasha's eyes. Perhaps, she was too carefree, to not notice this strangeness from him.
"Father will pick us up at school later. About an hour left. Or… will you help me and Will choose gifts for our parents?"
Will? Is that the name of the boy who confessed to Natasha? Lucas laughed coldly in his heart. He pulled his hand away from Natasha's embrace, turning his back to her. He couldn't let Natasha see his jealous face. Lucas took a deep breath, trying to regulate his emotions.
"You two go together. I'm not in the mood to go with you two."
With that, he strode away, ignoring Natasha's bewildered face.
She watched him disappear in the afternoon light, stupidly standing in the middle of the schoolyard. Looks like…Lucas just turned down one of her offers, didn't he? Until now, Lucas had never refused her anything. Even if it was a difficult request, he would help her complete it. Yet today, she was so cruelly rejected by the brother she loved the most.
Natasha wondered, did she do something to make Lucas angry? Looks like that's not the case. She has always been an obedient sister, without any abnormalities at all. She really didn't understand why Lucas was angry with her.
"Natt…"
Hearing the call, Natasha turned her head to look back. William and Jullian are coming together. They had just finished cleaning the classroom, that's why they were so late.
"Baby Natt, where's Lucas? Didn't you say you would ask him to come with us?"
Jullian quickly walked forward, holding Natasha's hand. However, her eyes wandered, searching for Lucas's tall, familiar figure.
"He's not with us. Looks like I made him angry."
"Huh? Why is that?"
Julian sighed in disappointment. She tried to wait until the end of the day to have some time to walk with Lucas. It's all because of this stupid girl Natasha, making her plan impossible. If Lucas wasn't here, Julian wouldn't want to go with Natasha and William. After all, the two of them are lovers, and if she comes along, it's no different from a stranger.
"So you and Will go together. I won't go with you two anymore."
"Eh…Why is that? Haven't we agreed to go together?"
"Come on… If I go with you two, I'll become a stone in the way. It's decided! We'll see each other again tomorrow!"
So, Jullian is gone too. Natasha smiled wryly. She looked up at William standing next to her, shyly suggesting. If there was any more silence, the atmosphere between the two of them would be suffocating to death.
"So…let's go. Later, my dad will come pick us up."
William also did not refuse. He held Natasha's small hand and walked with her step by step on the long road. Under the late afternoon sunlight, the scene between the two was really similar to the romantic dramas that Natasha often watched. The male lead and female lead will walk together, golden sunlight pouring on their bodies.
But for some unknown reason, Natasha couldn't concentrate on choosing a gift to help William. In her mind right now, the image of Lucas from earlier always appeared. The question "What did I do to make him angry?" lingered in her head, making it impossible for her to concentrate. It seems that William also realized that. He chose a few small gifts and then stood next to Natasha.
"Natt!"
"Huh? Ah, sorry. Have I lost focus again?"
Natasha smiled wryly. What the hell is she thinking? She was clearly walking next to William, her current boyfriend. But why can't she stop thinking about another guy? Even if that was her adopted brother, it wasn't fair to William at all.
"It's OK. Let's go back to school and wait for your father."
William grabbed Natasha's hand and pulled her out of the store. His movements were a bit rough, like he was jealous. That's right! No one wants their girlfriend to think about another man while they're with them. Men are always an extremely greedy species.
The two of them stood at the square for a while, until a car stopped in front of the two of them. Mr. Hence lowered the car window and signaled the two people to get in the car and sit.
The atmosphere inside was so quiet that it was scary. There was only the sound of the engine running smoothly along with the sound of breathing. Natasha sat next to Mr. Hence, her eyes kept looking at the phone. She just texted Lucas, but he didn't reply. A feeling of disappointment welled up in Natasha's heart. Never before had he been so angry that he didn't pay attention to her like this. For unknown reasons, Natasha felt scared. A feeling she had never felt before. Maybe Lucas didn't want to pay attention to her anymore?
That won't happen. Natasha told herself that. From childhood to adulthood, Lucas never abandoned her. It would never happen that he was so angry that he stopped paying attention to her. But, no matter what she told herself, Natasha's heart still trembled. She really didn't dare to think about the prospect that Lucas would treat her as an outsider and no longer care about her.
