Chapter 9 - Hunt for fairies

Taking one last glance at Elizabeth's room, he walked into one of the servants room. Anger boiled through his blood as he watched the butler who was sleeping in the bed peacefully. He had not realized what he has done or the havoc he caused. What If his room wasn't near Elizabeth's? What could have possibly happen?

He didn't want to think about it and all he wanted to do now was to strangle the Butler to death.

Just then, Butler Sam opened his eyes and was surprised to see Marcos. He quickly got on his feet and bowed his head respectfully.

"How may I be of help to you, Young Master?" He bowed again.

This time, he grabbed his neck and pinned it against the hard wall.

"How dare you?" Marcos pushed his head against the wall.

"W.... What have I done to anger you?" He asked in a shaky voice.

"You didn't feed her before bed. Why did you forget to leave a piece of raw meat near her bed?" Marcos asked in an indifferent tone.

Upon hearing him, the Butler's eyes widened with fear

"Ohh ..... My goodness! What have I done?" He raised his head to look at me. "The celebration for Young Miss birthday took all my time and I forgot to feed her."

"I promise it would not repeat itself ever again." He pleaded in fear.

Marcos bit his bottom lip trying to suppress the hot rage he was feeling. Releasing his neck, he pushed the butler back to the bed.

"I do not want to see you near this Mansion before dawn. Pack your belongings tonight and leave before anyone notice you." He told him before walking out of the room.

Anna woke up the next day to the chirping of birds outside the window. She brought her hand to cover the yawn before getting up on her feet to arrange the bed. Victoria had already gone out for work.

The memories of last night was still fresh in her head, leaving her with questions no one would answer. She felt that something terrifying was going on in the Mansion and she promised to find out soon.

Once she was done with her morning routine, she left the room to begin work. Clutching her hands to her dress, she thought of how she would be able to face Elizabeth if she sees her today.

Hearing the sound of carriages, she stretched her neck to see Marcos and Butler Sam step out of the Mansion. Butler Sam was holding a big bag in his hand and the expression on his face was not good. He was obviously leaving. But why?

She saw Marcos whisper something into the Butler's ears before he stepped into the carriage. And as if sensing someone was watching him, Marcos turned around to lock eyes with Anna.

The look he was giving her made her skin crawl with fear. Did he also know about Elizabeth condition? Or was he trying to find out if she knew what happened? Either of that, Anna was determined to find out what happened.

Anna watched as the carriage drove out of the tall gates. Her eyes widened with worries.

She turned around and continued walking. Once she was in the kitchen, she met the other maids. They were friendly with her and in no time, they all got along with each other.

Just then, the senior maid, Edith, approached her with a tray of food and cup of tea.

"Take this to the Young Miss room. She would be having breakfast in her room today." Edith handed the tray to her.

Anna felt a chill ran through her back at the woman's words. How would she be able to face Elizabeth after what happened last night?

"Be fast. She does not like cold food." The woman said before walking to do the dishes. She didn't know if she should tell the woman that she would not be able to do this task and it should be given to someone else. A little worried that she would end up getting fired, she nodded her head and left the kitchen.

She walked through the corridors into the darker side and her skin started to itch. Even in the day time, this side of the Mansion was as dark as the night sky.

She knocked on the door slowly and when she heard Elizabeth's voice telling her to come in, she remembered the deep loud voice of last night. What it really Elizabeth who spoke to her in that tone or someone else?

She opened the door and stepped into the room to see the young girl getting dressed up by a maid.

"Good morning, Young Miss." Anna bowed her head.

"I was just wondering if you could join I and my brothers to go hunt for fairies." The girls face was brightened. Her voice filled with joy compared to last night.

She wanted to ask Elizabeth about last night but decided against it. If she said the wrong words, it might lead to another thing.

"H..... Hunting for fairies.....?" It was like as if she was being poured ice. Her face reddened with anxiety. Elizabeth wanted her to join them in hunting for fairies.

"Yes, would you?" The girl raised her hand to send the maiden who had finished dressing her out of the room. Now it was just the two of them and Anna could feel her heart skip every second.

Her eyes narrowed to the door and there was no visible traces of scratches. Anna was sure to have seen scratches on the door. But where did it disappeared to? She has so much questions to ask right now and she doesn't know who would answer them.

"Yes. I pleaded with Brother Marcos and he agreed to join us. We would be needing a maid along side and I feel you should come with us. It would be fun hunting for them. I promise to give you some of the wings, you can use it as decoration for your room." The girl continued to blabber on like a two year old child.

"I don't think—"

Before Anna could reject the offer, the door suddenly opened and in came Marcos dressed in a long black coat.

His eyes narrowed to her before it moved to his sister.

"What is going on Sister?" He asked.

"I was just asking Anna to come with us. You know we need a maid to help with food and drinks serving." The girl said. "But I feel she does not like hunting for fairies."

Turning to her, he spoke in a calm tone that only made her nervous. "Get ready. You are coming with us."
