Upon hearing Kai speak those words, Devon snorted from his nose to suppress another brusque outburst directed at him. "And how do you plan on doing that?" he growled, rumbling with a gruff-toned voice.
As the deep round wounds healed on his chest, Kai pulled out a narrowly small medieval vial from his pocket as he spoke. "Give me your blood, and I'll gladly wake him for you."
Devon snarled at the idea, "The Vampire Covenant will never allow it because it is forbidden to reawaken my brother ever again. His body rests with his infant and his deceased wife inside the chamber at the Louvre Museum, where they should forever remain."
"As if I care to obey laws decreed during my slumber, and I know where he rests because I paid my respectful visit during the Masked Ball. All I need is your blood." Kai mockingly snickered at the thought of those Lights who run the Vampire Covenant.
"You'll likely be punished if I do," Devon mentioned, arching his brows into a meaner furrow.
"You think I fear a bunch of Superior Headmaster Lights?" Kai snickered somewhat louder, and Devon smirked.
He already knew Kai was relentless and insane to do whatever he pleased and yearned for. He'd be willing to go the extra mile by disregarding these laws. No Vampire Covenant could stand in his way.
While Devon is lost in his train of thought, Kai continues to persuade him. "If my wife doesn't get her votes, they will detain me either way. Allow me to at least offer your brother his opportunity to defeat Andrew. With war at our doorstep, you know, we will need his help."
"Follow me," emerging from his thoughts, Devon instructed.
One of his advisors whisked by, tossing him some new clothes to wear. Kai looked the other way when Devon's beast-like form shifted back into his natural human appearance,
necessitating him to dress his naked body since his muscle mass had shredded his clothes.
"Let's go," Devon affirmed once he was ready, and then Kai bolted off with him.
He led Kai to a lake that stretched out for miles on end. Farther behind them, the glow, coming from the Crystal City, shone a shiny lucent lighting that illuminated the valley and the sky. Behind them lay a crystalline cave, but Devon didn't bring him here to go cave exploring. He mostly brought him here to get away from all the loud city noises.
"Give me the vial," Devon asserted, holding his hand out to take it.
Kai smirked, handing it over to him. He observed as Devon bit his wrist and dripped his blood into the small vial.
"I hope you aren't expecting a warm welcome from my brother because he won't be delighted to see you," Devon forewarned, giving him the vial.
"I wasn't," Kai replied, securing the vial in his pocket. "Thank you."
"I didn't do it for you," Devon somewhat snipped. "I did it for your wife. She'll need all the protection she can get after the votes. Have you found anywhere safe to take her?"
"I haven't," Kai mumbled. "You wouldn't happen to know anywhere safe, would you?"
"Certainly not on this planet. We already held her votes, and she lost," Devon frowned, conveying the news. His family tried to plead with the council, but the votes were finalized for Victoria to be executed.
Kai raked his fingers through the strands of his short-trimmed hair. "I'm going to end up losing her," he bitterly sulked.
"There's still hope," Devon reassured him by touching his shoulder. "Don't give up."
"I won't ever give up," Kai declared, and Devon smiled at his dearest friend.
His mouth hung, ready to speak, but then it happened. So unexpectedly, they heard several loud flapping sounds of wings resonating in the sky. Devon and Kai caught a glimpse of one too many Nightshifters flying over the city, and they knew who they were.
"That's Headmaster Matt, Andrew's grandfather, and his clan!" Kai growled.
Blasts of fire erupted out of Headmaster Matt's mouth once he spotted Kai's and Devon's clans in the city. Fury fueled the Nightshifter Headmaster as flames engulfed the entire city. Every building combusted into fiery infernos, and every flying vehicle, was incinerated to ashes. People perished before they could comprehend what had struck them.
"Look out!" a loud outcry came from their clans as they sprinted in their direction, evading the fiery blast that pursued behind them. "Run!"
High in the sky, Matt smirked at the clans fleeing to their Alphas.
Watching the flames come blasting in their direction as they waited for their clans who were flying to them, Devon yelled once they reached them, "Head for the water!"
Without any time to waste, they all dived into the purple sparkly water and swam out beneath the water. Above the surface, fiery flames swept across the lake as they kept swimming. Without the need to breathe underwater, they could stay underwater for however long they needed to.
Once the flames blew over, Kai swam on his back deep beneath the water. Having excellent sight, he could see to the surface where he saw more than a handful of Matt's clan are searching for them, but they couldn't get a scent since the water blocked it.
Above the surface, Headmaster Matt and his clan kept scanning the surface of the water as they hovered over it in flight. If he were to get rid of Vlad's powerful grandson, it would deliver his Coven the upper hand to destroy the Collin Coven.
"They're not here," one of his advisors spoke out.
"Keep looking further!" Matt growled as he was determined to get Kai.
At all costs, he had to find Kai. He was away from his Coven, so Matt had the impeccable opportunity to strike him. Without even realizing it, Kai and everybody else were right underneath his nose, but he couldn't trace them to know.
It wasn't until after Matt kept going was when Devon signaled with his pointer finger to head left. Kai and his clan swam behind Devon and his clan, who led them to the surface of the lake's shoreline. Soaking wet, they stride out of the water until their wet boots are on dryer land.
Miles away from across the Lake, they stood there watching the Crystalline City searing with fire. Not one living soul was spared from the fire. Around them, the landscape became a scorched land of ruins. Trees torched into cinders, and the clear-colored grass ashed to crispy soot. Any creatures, animals, and humans perished to ashes and dust. Glenn may have the same fire gift as Matt, but his gift wasn't any match against a First-generation Headmaster. Regardless, Kai wished he was here because he may have been able to help by a little.
