Finished with his whiskey, they got up as Evan paid for his drink, placing a tip on the countertop for the bartender. As they neared the exit, Dustin and his advisors intercepted them, wearing wry grins on their faces.
Kai quickly scanned the tables, and he saw more vampires from Dustin's clan occupying certain chairs. Their unnoticed presence only indicated that he and his cousin were too lost in their quiet conversation to sense their arrival. Sort of late notice, but the peril emanating from Dustin and his clan was now palpable to them.
"Fancy seeing you here," Dustin remarked, his deviant grin widening.
From the second floor, numerous vampires allied with the Collin Coven exerted full vigilance from their intrusion. In that split second, their allies intently observed Dustin and his clan, getting caught off guard by their sudden arrival.
Meanwhile, more than half of the vampires smirked throughout the vicinity, feeling indifferent to being neither allies nor enemies. Either way, most of them disdained the Collins.
"It really is, but we were just leaving," Evan replied casually.
He understood the importance of remaining nonchalant during this unwelcome encounter, especially in a human-owned business establishment. It's not the sort of place to be causing an issue since the Vampire Covenant aimed to avoid any unlawful demise to bestow upon the human race.
"Enjoy your fun," Kai said, biting the inside of his lip.
As they stroll around them, Dustin chuckles, "You know, I've been here a few times and always find it rather boring. Perhaps I should boost up the music."
Darks could amplify the sounds of noisy objects such as clocks and music. High-pitched sounds kill humans within minutes, so Dustin had the full advantage of calling the shots over Kai and Evan. To their downfall, the bar is already raucous with ear-piercing bass.
Veering back to him, Kai snarled, "Don't you dare!"
He exerted all his willpower not to expose his red pupils or his fangs for these humans to mistakenly witness. Regardless of these humans being clueless about what was going on, vampires always had to conserve their composures.
Matters on Kai's plate were already becoming intractable to manage. The last thing he needs is anything else to spiral out of hand. If Dustin killed everyone in a human-owned business, it would ramify Victoria's votes.
"Why not? I'm bored waiting for the votes," Dustin grinned as he blatantly
disregarded his warning, and a rare sight of vulnerability flickered in Kai's gaze. Never once has Dustin ever seen him come off as powerless.
"Who would've known that having a destined mate would be your downfall," one of his advisors mocked Kai before they chuckled.
"Having a mate doesn't make me weak," Kai disputed. "If you do anything, I'll make sure you regret it."
"Save your pathetic threats for someone who cares," Dustin laughed. "After this moment, I will be counting the days I can cut your offspring out of your mate's stomach to detain them."
Evan emitted a low growl, "Don't try anything stupid."
Too engaged in their blissful enjoyment, the humans remained unaware of the looming peril brewing near like a winter storm.
"You mean like this?" Dustin fatuously mocked them before the bass increased so boisterously that it throbbed their eardrums.
Unlike the humans, the vampires and the vampiresses tuned it out while the humans screamed, holding their ears as their faces contorted in pain.
Ears spurt blood as the humans all fall, screeching to the floor from the trauma inflicted on their brains. Blood gushed from their mouths, eyes, and noses. Humans rolled around the floor as they held their ears. Some had violent seizures as blood ebbed heavier out of their mouths. In mere minutes, the screams were silent, and Dustin shut the music off with his mind. Not one person moved or made a twitch that possibly indicated life as they lay lifeless in puddles of blood.
As soon as the damage was done, Dustin derided them with his sardonic comment. "Try cleaning this up from the Vampire Covenant."
Kai darkly glared at him for what he had done. In the next moment, Dustin and his clan disappeared on the spot as their derisive laughter was the last to fade in an echo. The vampires and vampiresses, who weren't their allies, also left laughing without a trace of ever being there while their allies stayed behind.
"Grab the alcohol!" Kai barked, growing desperate.
As his and Evan's clans arrived to discover the untimely damage, Kai rushed to the bar, grabbing two alcohol bottles from a shelf. He pulled the corks with his teeth and started pouring liquor all over the dead bodies.
Acknowledging his plan, the other vampires, including Evan and their clans, all do the same. With no time to waste, they needed to rectify this vampiric-caused catastrophe and hope it didn't impact Victoria's votes.
Ace shattered wine bottles on the walls as Ivan and Jack helped him. Rome and Glenn darted everywhere around, splashing liquor on the tables and the furniture as everyone worked swiftly together. Alcohol and beer permeated all over the vicinity, making their noses twinge from the potent stench.
Done saturating the karaoke bar with liquor, Kai signaled with a nod, and everyone cleared out. Retrieving a flip-lid Zippo lighter from his pocket, he strode toward the exit, igniting the lighter by scratching it against the fabric of his black Dickies pants. Without a backward glance, he tossed the lit lighter to his right.
Flames erupted, crawling up the walls and devouring the floor. Fire quickly dispersed on the furniture, consuming everything along its pathway. Casually, Kai strolled out of the exit, leisurely joining the others as the searing flames sealed the doorway he had recently traversed through.
Sirens pierced the sky as firetrucks and the police arrived on the scene moments later, sometime after Evan called 911.
"Say it was a gas leak," Kai mentally instructed the vampire, who coincidentally is a firefighter like the chief.
Covens always ensured that a handful of their Kind obtained the highest job positions when living among the humans.
"It will be done, Sir Kai," the Chief mentally replied to his Alpha.
With a satisfied nod, Kai vanished into the shroud of shadows with Evan and their clans between another set of buildings.
Before their departure from a high rooftop, Kai, Evan, and their clans supervise the group of human and vampire firefighters corresponding to extinguish the burning flames. Amidst the raging fire, Edgar and his fellow Lights arrived to evaluate the burning building as well.
On another rooftop to their right, Kai spotted the Headmaster Lights, surveying the situation before they disappeared into the chilly breeze.
Beside Kai, Ivan stated, shaking his head in disbelief, "I can't believe Dustin did that."
"I can," Kai muttered. "Vampires are getting too anxious for the votes to begin."
