Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

Queens Center Mall is nothing compared to all the other malls Catherine has visited.

It is one of the biggest malls in New York City, and from its size, the decorations, the articles sold in it, and the people frequenting it, you could easily conclude that the mall belonged to people from the upper class.

Jerry had suggested taking Catherine to the mall so that she could get a suitable dress that she would put on during the dinner at Jerry's place.

At first, Catherine objected to the idea because she knew that she had many dresses that she could wear to the dinner, but after many insistences from Jerry, who claimed that she needed a new dress that she would put on in order to impress his father, who paid strict attention to the first impression, she had no choice but to succumb to the idea.

When they got to the mall, Catherine couldn't help but admire how huge it was. It was totally different from the other malls where she had the habit of buying her articles.

When they got to the women's clothing department, Jerry asked her to choose any dress that she wanted, but Catherine kept on hesitating because of the prices written on the etiquette of the clothes.

When Jerry noticed her discomfort, he himself picked a total of five clothes and asked her to put each one of them on in the changing room that he would make his choice in since she was afraid of choosing.

Jerry couldn't help but admire how beautiful she was as she kept on changing into the new dresses.

Jerry was in front of the changing room, waiting for Catherine to come out so that he could see how the dress looked on her, when someone tapped him from behind.

Once he turned around and saw the person who had tapped him, his eyes widened in surprise.

"Hello Jerry, what a surprise!" The person exclaimed while smiling.

"Hello Lucy, where have you been?" Jerry asked with a surprised tone while smiling.

"Well, after you dumped me, I decided to travel out a little in order to clear my head," Lucy explained to Jerry while smiling.

"Point of correction: I never dumped; you were the one who asked for a break because, according to you, I sacrificed most of my time to my work instead of spending it with you," Jerry said in defense while smiling.

"Well, that's in the past now," Lucy explained.

"By the way, what are you doing in the women's clothing department, or have you gotten married?" Lucy asked with an inquisitive tone.

As Jerry was about to reply, Catherine came out of the changing room wearing the new dress.

"Oh, is she my substitute?" Lucy asked, and immediately Jerry frowned at her.

"Catherine, this is Lucy, my ex-girlfriend," Jerry said to Catherine while pointing at Lucy.

"Lucy, this is Catherine, my fiancée," Jerry said to Lucy with a smirk on his face, and immediately Catherine widened her eyes in surprise.

"Happy to meet you," Lucy said to Catherine while extending her hand for a handshake.

"Happy to meet you too," Catherine said to Lucy in reply while reciprocating her handshake.

"Hope he's not choosing you over his work." Lucy asked with a smile on her face.

"No, he's not, and we also work for the same company," Catherine explained with a smile on her face too.

"Happy to hear that," Lucy replied while smiling, and immediately she approached Jerry and whispered something in his ears, and immediately Jerry widened his eyes in surprise.

"I will be taking my leave now. Enjoy your shopping," Lucy said to Jerry and Catherine while exiting the women's clothing department.

"What did she whisper to you? Catherine asked with an inquisitive tone.

"Nothing important," Jerry replied.

"And why did you tell her that I'm your fiancée?" Catherine asked once more.

"I just wanted to make her a little jealous." Jerry replied, and Catherine shook her head in disbelief. "And I must admit, you are really a good actress," Jerry complimented Catherine, who furrowed her brows at him.

"I should really learn how to act more if I'm going to convince your dad that we are together," Catherine said to Jerry who nodded in agreement while smiling.

"The dress really looks good on you," Jerry said to Catherine who faked a smile.

"So which one do you choose among the five?" Catherine asked.

"You can take them all; they all look good on you," Jerry said to Catherine and immediately she widened her eyes in surprise.

"What!" Catherine exclaimed in surprise.

As she was about to object, Jerry chipped in.

"Come on, Catherine, you complain a lot. We should start going; it's already six p.m. Jerry said this to her while calling the attention of the receptionist.

Once she approached, Jerry asked her to pack the five clothes in a bag, which she did without hesitating.

"Do you need anything else?" Jerry asked Catherine, who was still staring at him in surprise.

"No," Catherine replied.

"Perfect," Jerry replied. "Let's start going," Jerry said while heading to the counter, and immediately Catherine followed him from behind.

Once they reached the counter, Jerry paid for the clothing and handed the bag to her.

"Thank you," Catherine said.

"Don't mention it, please," Jerry replied while heading outside, and immediately Catherine followed him from behind.

Once they came outside, Jerry opened the door of the car for Catherine, and she got in; afterwards, he too got in, ignited the car, and zoomed off in the direction of Catherine's house.

Throughout the whole ride, many thoughts kept running through Catherine's head. She kept on asking herself if Jerry was in love with her or if he was only focused on securing the family's properties.

But one thing was sure: time will tell.

"Is everything okay?" Jerry asked, as he noticed that she was lost in her thoughts.

"Yes, of course," she replied while nodding, and Jerry smiled at her and turned his gaze back to his staring.

In less than thirty minutes, they were already at Catherine's house.

Catherine thanked him so much for the dress before waving him goodnight.

Jerry looked at her lustfully until she went into her apartment, and immediately he ignited his car and zoomed off.
