Chapter 5 - Chapter 5

As Daniel was about to speak in defense, Mr. Bernard cut him in immediately.

"Silence Daniel, I'm still talking," Mr. Bernard barked angrily. "You never mentioned to me that you splashed the cup of coffee on her too; you only told me that Jerry threatened to fire you from the company without hearing you out, true or false?" Mr. Bernard asked Daniel angrily, and immediately Jerry widened his eyes in surprise while Daniel buried his head in shame.

"Even though that still doesn't give him the right to threaten to fire his brother from the company just because of a simple employee," Cynthia said in her son's defense. "Since when you handed the company over to him, he has been acting as if everyone is under his control," Cynthia replied angrily, and immediately Mr. Bernard stared at her angrily, and she hissed and turned her face away.

"Cynthia I don't know what you are turning Daniel into; every time I try to correct him, you are always there to defend him. Mind you, one day you won't be here to defend him as usual, and that is when he will understand what you are doing to him," Mr. Bernard said to Cynthia angrily.

"I'm defending him the same way you are defending Jerry," Cynthia chipped in, and immediately Mr. Bernard shook his head in disbelief without saying a word.

"Daniel, Jerry, if any of you is wrong, it's my responsibility to correct you guys, whether you like it or not," Mr. Bernard said to them calmly, and immediately Daniel turned his head to the other side of the wall.

"Splashing coffee on the gown of an employee because she mistakenly stained your shirt is unacceptable, and if the work inspector hears about this, he won't take it lightly," Mr. Bernard explained to them calmly.

"Daniel, mind you, Jerry is the CEO of the company, and if you do something that will make him fire you from the company, I won't be able to do anything about it. I will only ask him to take you back, but I can't force him," Mr. Bernard explained with a straight face, and immediately Cynthia and Daniel looked at him with a surprised look.

"You are free to go," Mr. Bernard said to them while taking the TV remote that he used to switch on the TV, and immediately Daniel stood up angrily and started heading towards his room.

"Thank you, Dad," Jerry said to his father, who nodded without replying, and immediately he started heading towards his room. Cynthia eyed him angrily and hissed at him, but Jerry did as if he didn't see her while heading upstairs.

"Ann, is the dinner not yet ready?" Cynthia barked from the sitting room.

"It's almost ready," Ann, one of the maids, replied from the kitchen.

In less than twenty minutes, the whole family assembled around the dining table except for Daniel.

They were all enjoying their meal silently, without saying a word to each other.

After five minutes of eating, Jerry decided to break the news to his dad.

"Dad, I have good news for you," Jerry said to his father while munching the rice in his mouth.

"I'm all ears, my son," the dad responded while munching his meal too.

"I'm inviting someone over for dinner this weekend," Jerry said to his father while munching his meal.

"A male or a female?" the father inquired while separating the flesh of the fried chicken on his plate with the little knife in his hand.

"Female," Jerry replied while smiling, and immediately his father stopped eating.

"Friend or girlfriend?" his father inquired, but this time with a smile, and immediately Jerry too looked at him and smiled.

"Dad, for now I can't say, but time will tell," Jerry replied while drinking the chilled orange juice in his glass cup, and immediately Cynthia hissed without saying a word.

"That's the spirit, my boy; don't rush into anything; just take your time and find the right person," his father said to Jerry, who

nodded before continuing with the meal.

Cynthia, who couldn't stand the fact that her favorite son wasn't eating with them, took one of the empty plates and scooped enough white rice into it with some sausage and two pieces of fried chicken.

Without uttering a word to her husband or stepson, she stood up from the dining room, took the food, and started heading upstairs.

"Where is she going with that?" Mr. Bernard asked Jerry.

"Certainly to her favorite son," Jerry replied, and they both laughed before continuing with their meal.

"So who's this lady you are bringing over?" Mr.Bernard asked.

"Come on, dad, don't be in a hurry; when I bring her, you will see her," Jerry said to his father while smiling.

"OK, son, if you say so, no need to worry then," Mr. Bernard said while munching the meal in his mouth.

Cynthia walked directly to Daniel's room with the meal, and once she reached the front of his door, she placed a soft knock on it, and immediately Daniel informed her from behind the door that the door was open.

When she got inside the room, Daniel sat up on the bed, and immediately she approached him and handed the food to him before sitting beside him.

"Thanks, mom," Daniel replied while mixing the rice with the sausage on top.

"Don't mention it, my son," she replied. "By the way, I'm sorry for what happened earlier in the sitting room," she said to Daniel, who was already munching on the meal given to him by his mom.

"Mum, I have forgotten about that. Didn't I tell you that telling dad about what happened today in the company was a bad idea?" Daniel asked Cynthia while munching on his meal.

"Yes, son, you are right. I should have listened to you." Cynthia replied.

"By the way, there is an important issue at hand we need to talk about," Cynthia said to Daniel, who furrowed his brows at her immediately.

"What issue?" Daniel asked while turning his gaze towards his mother.

"Since you returned to the company, have you ever seen Jerry with any female friends?" Cynthia asked Daniel, and immediately he looked at her surprisedly.

"No, and why do you ask?" Daniel asked her while scooping the rice into his mouth.

"Well, your brother told your father that he's inviting a female friend over on the weekend," Cynthia said to Daniel.

"Well, that's his business," Daniel replied while focusing on his meal.

"Seriously?" Cynthia asked Daniel with an angry tone.

"But mom, what do you want me to do about it?" Daniel asked his mom, not minding the frown on her face.

"Daniel, I hope you know what will happen if we don't do everything to stop Jerry from getting married while your father is alive." Cynthia asked Daniel with an angry tone.

"Yes, I know," Daniel replied with a frown. "And you haven't answered my question; what do you want me to do?" Daniel asked her.

"Well, all you have to do is find out who this female friend of his is," Cynthia replied.

"And if I find out, what are you going to do to her?" Daniel asked with an inquisitive look.

"I will frustrate her until she leaves Jerry for good," Cynthia replied with a smirk on her face, and immediately Daniel faked a smile before continuing with his meal.
