Chapter 8 - WITCHES AND POTIONS

Once dinner was over, Ivy suggested that she would take care of the dishes. Jasmine offered to help as she was curious to know what Ivy's second task entailed, and Simon, being his usual self, chimed in

" It would be rude to let two beautiful ladies handle the dishes without the guidance of a gallant handsome man like me!" He playfully lifted his shoulders, earning a round of laughter from everyone.

Ivy hesitated to reveal the details of their next task, trying to make Jasmine even more curious, and Jasmine grew impatient. She promised to teach Ivy more spells if she spilled the beans. Unable to resist the offer, Ivy finally relented.

Ivy explained that they needed to acquire one of their family's most valuable heirloom.

Jasmine laughed, seemingly amused. "Well, that's impossible, Ivy. It would be easier to remove a lion's fangs than to get our hands on the key to the vault where the heirlooms are kept".

Ivy and Simon exchanged puzzled glances. " Whywould it be so difficult to get?" Ivy asked.

Jasmine sighed and explained "You see, Ivy, my mom wears the key to the vault around her neck. It's highly protected and nearly impossible to access without her presence".

"Well, you could simply ask her , Ivy" Simon said

"No way! She must not know about any of our plans. Is that clear?" Ivy asked.

Jasmine and Simon nodded slowly.

Ivy noticed a mischievous grin on Simon's face and she asked why he was smiling.

"I don't know so much about witches, but I think, with a sleeping potion, Mrs Harrison wouldn't be very much conscious to stop us from getting the key, and opening the vault" he said, tilting his head slightly.

"There's no way we're making a sleeping potion for my mom. Besides, potions like that could have dangerous side effects. If it goes wrong, my mom might never be able to wake up again". Jasmine said, stating her disapproval on the idea.

Simon giggled. "Then I'll be prince charming and give sleeping beauty one true love's kiss".

Ivy and Jasmine stared at him with a serious look on their faces, and his smile slowly faded.

Ivy assured Jasmine that they would be careful whiles making the potion. Jasmine was still not comfortable with the whole idea, but she didn't want to be a mood killer, so she agreed.

"The easiest way to get Cecilia to take the sleeping potion is to spike it in her food, and I think I know just the right food we could make. Blue berry cake! That's her favorite. She won't be able to resist it". Ivy said.

They all agreed to execute their plan the next day.

It was time for Simon to head home and he thanked Cecilia and Ambrose, for the delicious dinner.

While Ambrose and Cecilia were watching a tv show, the girls went upstairs to begin their secret mission. Jasmine carefully brought out a dusty box filled with spell books, surprising Ivy. Ivy asked why she had never noticed the books before , and Jasmine confessed that she had used a blocking spell to shield the original nature of the books.

Excitedly, they started flipping through the pages, searching for the perfect sleeping potion. However, their concentration was broken by the sound of Cecilia's footsteps approaching. Startled, they quickly closed the books and tried to act nonchalant as Cecilia entered the room.

Cecilia glanced curiously at the girls and asked what they were up to.

"Oh, I was just teaching Ivy some spells", Jasmine nervously responded.

Cecilia smiled warmly and urged them to wrap it up soon and get to bed.

Just as Cecilia was about to leave, Ivy couldn't resist letting her in on their surprise plan. She called out to Cecilia, telling her not to worry about making lunch the next daybecause they wanted to treat her to something special.

"And what's the occasion?" Cecila asked, surprised.

"It is for being the most loving and understanding person in the whole universe" Ivy smiled.

Cecilia blushed and blew them a kiss before bidding them goodnight .

As soon as Cecilia left, Ivy and Jasmine let out a sigh of relief. Ivy clutched her chest

"That was a very close one" , she whispered to Jasmine.

The girls devoted themselves to poring over the spell books for the rest of the night, until they finally found a perfect one, and they started practicing the incantations. Exhaustion took over them, and they fell asleep.

It was a sunny Saturday morning, and the girls woke up early to do their chores. The girls decided to divide and conquer, so while Jasmine went into the woods to get some rare plants for the potion, Ivy also went to the store to get the other ingredients needed. When they got home, they freshened up, and Jasmine picked up her phone and dialed Simon's number. She asked him to come over.

Shortly, Simon arrived at their house. The three musketeers went to the basement to commence the preparation of the potion.

As the girls mixed the ingredients, Simon couldn't help but crack a joke

"I hope this potion doesn't turn us all into frogs. I'veseen enough witches and talking animals in movies!" , he chuckled.

Ivy rolled her eyes playfully, "Come on, Simon, we're not brewing an evil potion here. It's just a sleeping potion".

Jasmine added with a mischievous grin, " Yeah, the biggest danger is that she might not wake up again, but that's not gonna happen".

The sound of their laughter filled the entire room. Ivy and Jasmine continued their potion making, carefully following the instructions from the spell book. As they finished up, Ivy poured the potion into a small bottle and sealed it.

As Ivy climbed the stairs, she turned to Jasmine and Simon and asked, "Now who's ready to make a blueberry cake?".

The three of them headed into the kitchen and began preparing the ingredients. As they were getting started, Cecilia entered the kitchen.

"Hey guys, what's going on?" Cecilia asked, trying to engage them in conversation.

Jasmine gave Ivy a quick sign, and Ivy nodded, understanding the plan. They needed to distract Cecilia so they could spike the cake with the sleeping potion. Just as Cecilia went to answer the ringing landline, Jasmine and Ivy took the opportunity to spike the cake and put it in the oven.

With a sigh of relief, the three of them rested on the counter, waiting for the cake to bake. When it was finally ready, they set the table and decorated it beautifully.

Cecilia was called downstairs, and when she saw the effort they had put into the surprise, tears filled her eyes.

"You did all this for me?" Cecilia asked, her voice filled with emotion.

They all nodded, and as they sat around her, they couldn't help but stare in anticipation. Cecilia questioned why they were staring at her, and they nervously laughed it off, saying they were just happy to see her eat. Cecilia invited them to join her, but they declined, claiming they had already eaten in the kitchen.
