Her wet eyelashes lapped and she let out a deep breath as she looked at Eric with teary eyes.
Her wolf was pained by his rejection.
"You know that I always thought you had some sense but I was wrong. How could you be so confident to think that an Alpha would love a good-for-nothing orphan" Eunice asked in her usual mocking tone.
"I feel so sorry for you, such a fool" Eunice insulted and cackled.
Eric joined her in the laughter, in the past that laugh used to make Maya smile and be happy. It always gladdened her heart to see him elated but not anymore.
The thought made more tears drop from Maya's eyes as she closed them.
"She couldn't even satisfy me in any way, not sexually or even intellectually… she's always acting like a depressed crybaby," Eric said to Eunice, making her chuckle, and Maya on the other hand, felt hurt.
"Maya, throughout the time of our relationship, all I felt was complete boredom. Eunice was the only one I loved, she brought this excitement into my life," Alpha Eric said.
This was the worst humiliation Maya had ever experienced in her entire life. If something caused her so much pain apart from my parents' death, this was it.
But she exhaled sharply and opened her teary eyes. She slowly stood up from the floor and looked at Eric.
"You're the next in line after your father is done ruling and I'm so ashamed that someone like you would become the Alpha," Maya said spitefully.
She wasn't going to allow them to embarrass her anymore, they had crossed the line the moment they allowed her to think of her parents.
"Excuse me!" Eric gasped, there was an expression of shock on his face.
Maya had never talked back or confronted him over anything.
"You heard me right. This pack doesn't deserve an Alpha like you, someone who would mock an orphan with her parents' death. How could you be a good leader when you are ready to trample on anyone who stands in your path?" Maya affronted boldly, even though she was trembling inwardly.
"Save us your speech and leave." Eunice hollered and glared at her.
Maya ignored her like she was none existent and looked at Eric who looked shaken by her words.
"You could have rejected me without hurting me this much but you love being the center of attraction, you love uplifting your ego because without it you are nothing" Maya insulted. "I can't believe that I once thought highly of you," Maya muttered and walked to him.
She reached him and looked him straight in his eyes.
"But you remember the times when I called you the most powerful, perfect; they were all lies because you are nothing without your father," Maya said.
Her crying had ceased, though she was still brokenhearted and stupidly in love with him, she couldn't leave in defeat. Though the little depressed girl inside of her was wailing, Maya had to leave proudly and with her dignity intact.
Eunice raised herself from the bed and yelled; "How about you accept the rejection and get your pitiable self out of here?"
"I refuse to accept his rejection" Maya spat and turned to her. "I am doing this, so that you would remember that you will, always be the other woman and never his true mate."
Maya took a deep breath and walked away from there. She knew that she left them in shock but it couldn't heal her broken heart.
Probably, that wasn't the real reason for not accepting his rejection. She still had hope that Eric would come back to her.
This might make her a fool but she doesn't think that someone could change as easily as Eric did without a reason. She felt his love was genuine.
Maya rushed out of the mansion and walked to the car. She took out some of her belongings. It wasn't hers anymore, there was no need to keep it since it was Eric who got them for her.
She threw the car key on the floor and walked toward the gate which automatically opened and she left for good.
Wandering around was my only way of keeping her mind sane. Her wolf was hurt, she felt more sick and shattered inside.
Maya recalled when they met each other with Eric acting like the perfect gentleman, especially during their date and first kiss. Everything was perfect.
This wasn't the man she met or maybe he was simply pretending. Since he couldn't get what he wanted, he grew tired.
Was holding on to hope, really worth it? Maya asked herself.
*
Night time came and Maya was still strolling around the pack. She walked through a serene path to her apartment. It looked deserted but cars passed from time to time.
Walking slowly back to the main road, she noticed someone following me. At first, she thought it was her imagination but then she could still hear the person's footsteps behind her.
Not hiding that he/she was tailing her, the person kept coming. Maya decided to walk faster and as fearfully expected, the person's steps fastened behind her too to catch up.
'Why is this person following me?' She thought and soon took to her heels.
Maya swiftly looked back and saw a man pursuing her. She looked forward and continued running, her speed increased but this person didn't stop chasing her.
'Moon goddess help me' Maya cried inwardly and tried running much faster but she had never been much of an athlete except in her wolf form.
She glanced behind her and he was so close that he grasped Maya's arm and pulled her to himself.
Maya's bag dropped from her hands and she cried out; "Please!"
"I have money in my bag, just take it and leave me alone" Maya offered and tried wriggling out of his grip but he held her much tighter.
"I'm not here for your money but to kill you", He said and suddenly brought out a gun.
Maya's eyes widened and she gasped loudly. Her heart stopped for a second.
"Alpha Eric has sent me here to kill you so that you would never be a problem to his relationship with Lady Eunice, they are getting married soon." The man revealed while cocking the gun.
Maya's eyebrows raised in disbelief, she that Eric might hate her now but it wasn't to the extent of killing her. He had no reason to do that.
"Well, tell your Alpha to go to hell!" Maya boldly yelled without fear and clawed his face with her free hand. She kicked him in the groin and pushed him to the floor.
Then She ran from there and while still looking back to see if he remained on the floor. The second Maya looked forward, her eyes widened to see a speeding car approaching her direction, escaping was impossible.
The car slammed against her body and her vision darkened.
