Chapter 33 - The Mythological Dracon

"Hey hey hey hey hey what the hell!?"

The serpent plunged it's head forward in an attempt to devour Cedric who tried to take the Heaven's Paradice from it's pedestal. Leaping backwards, Cedric managed to avoid the head of the Serpent which broke through the ground as it missed it's target.

I hid behind Rachel, what could I have done to fight against a huge serpent?

"What the hell is that thing!?"

Cedric yelled performing a series of flips avoiding the hungry mouth of the serpent. It was dark so it was hard to identify the true nature of the serpent, all we knew was that it had no legs and it's body was long enough to surround the whole space. We didn't even know where we fell into.

Rachel pondered hard, she tried to identify what it was that truly attacked us.

"What are you doing!?"

Cedric exclaimed front flipping in the air, the serpent's tail came out of nowhere and smacked him out of the air.

"O...O..O-UCH..."

He groaned rolling on the ground, he was stopped by a moving wall which felt like flesh and when he realized it, the serpent's head was already hovering above his head and the difference in size was great.

"That's it!."

The Serpent hissed slowly while drawing closer to Cedric who stood up slowly to his feet.

"Cedric that's Dracon the ancient Greek Serpent!"

According to mythology Dracon was first type of Greek Serpent, Dracon whose name was derived from the Greek words "drakein" and "derkomai" meaning "to see clearly" or "gaze sharply." It was essentially just a giant serpent equipped with rows of sharp teeth and a deadly poison. In myth the beast usually guarded a sacred spring, grove or golden treasure but in this case, The Heaven's Paradice.

"Well..that's comforting."

The serpent plunged forward once more this time going for the actual kill as it had Cedric surrounded.

"Cedric!"

Cedric placed his hands on the ground infusing his magic into the earth in other to manipulate it.

"Earth magic: Geokinesis!"

Utilizing the same spell as before, he manipulated the rocks beneath him causing them to rise up and encasing him in a dome created out of the earth. The serpent's head collided with the dome causing it to shatter into several pieces before launching Cedric towards Rachel and I.

"What are we gonna do!?"

I asked Rachel whilst cowering behind her back, we needed to obtain the heaven's paradice but this ancient Greek Serpent Solarius used as a watch dog had something to say about it.

Things went from worse to well, even more worse. The serpent spewed a cloud of mist from it's mouth towards us, that mist was made up of the most deadly poison in the ancient times.

"Cedric!"

Rachel yelled quickly.

"On it!"

Cedric utilized his geokinesis once more encasing all of us in it, that poison was originally used to subdue the lower gods who tried to steal Solarius treasures. But if used on a mortal mere contact alone would melt the body of humans.

"This is bad."

Hearing Rachel say that was my worst nightmare, by now the room we were in was filled with the poisonous mist. The serpent was immune to it but we were not, not to mention it had us cornered.

"It's coming!"

Cedric could feel the serpent's movements from the ground being an earth mage and all and it approached us at full speed. I could hear it's roar as he aimed to destroy the earth dome and us with it. All hope seemed lost as it was game over, however.

BOOM!

There was a loud bang, it sounded as if something had broken through the walls and that's when we heard his voice.

"Tempest Canon!"

An air canon tore through the ceiling and connected with the head of the serpent which drove it into the ground, the air pressure had blown away the mist and our dome as the serpent was right next to us when it all happened.

"Tempest? Canon?"

Rachel muttered softly as she just remembered something important.

"There's only one fool capable of that!"

Cedric's blood was boiling but not with rage, adrenaline. It looked as if he had waited for this moment for a long time. From the ceiling the silhouette of a masculine male donning a cloak jumped down and landed in front of us.

For a moment I pondered in shock who it could be but by the time I realized it, Cedric's head clashed with his in an instant.

"Who told you to mess with my stuff huh!?"

So that was why he was grumpy all this time?

Clashing head's with Cedric he replied;

"Huh? Why would I ever in a million years touch your stuffs dirt pile!?"

"Wind Pipe!"

"Mud Pile!"

"Grrrr."

I was confused, what was happening? It's like the fact that we were about to be eaten by a mythological creature was no longer a reason to panic.

"Hate to break it to you but.."

Rachel pointed at the creature who launched itself towards Cedric and Xavier who were still locked in a fated man's staring contest.

I screamed in terror, watching the serpent plunge towards us with his salivating mouth was horrifying seeing it was most likely 20-30 feet tall.

"Don't interfere!!"

Cedric and Xavier yelled simultaneously before their individual magic engulfed their fists. As the serpent got close they sent a right hook towards it's lower jaw and with their combined might the serpent was overwhelmed.

The combination of wind and earth magic was a good one which led to the serpent collapsing. It was knocked out but who knew for how long, mythological creatures possessed a level of stamina and durability no other beasts could compete with so while their attack had knocked it out, it was in no way injured or damaged. Most likely it was recovering from the vibrations in it's head caused by the combined magic.

"X-xavier..."

I muttered softly, I was a bit embarrassed to be standing in front of him. The same person I called incapable had saved both me and the members of Crimson Heart.

To my greatest surprise, Rachel hugged Xavier tightly. So they were all acquainted?

"You always know when I'm in danger."

Rachel sniffled smiling, it had been long since she last saw Xavier and the same could be said for Cedric.

"Don't make a fuss over it, that dude got nothing on me?"

Heh, did he seriously think what he knocked down with the help of Cedric was a man?

"Umm, what dude?"

Rachel asked calmly, Xavier turned to point at what he had attacked earlier.

"That dude over...wh-wh-wh-wh-what the hell is that!?"

He stumbled backwards on realizing what exactly he had hit. Cedric scoffed with a smug look on his face as he approached the altar.

"Idiot, so typical."

On approaching the altar, he picked up the item placed on it and to his greatest surprise. It wasn't what he expected.

"You've got to be kidding me! we went through all that trouble for a g-g-gem!?"

That's right, the heaven's paradice was a rather large gem which apparently according to the legends was Solarius most treasured item and for a very good reason.
