Chapter 9 - Visit

James had kept the sensory ability of chakra continuously functioning as it only drained miniscule amount of chakra. Though using this ability continuously put a bit of stress on his mental power, it also helped in strengthening it. Also the limitation of the sensing ability of chakra was that, he could only sense a person, but not his identity or anything else.

'This limitation should also be imparted by the angel,' James thought.

Discarding all his thoughts, James put his guard up, ready to counter any attack being thrown upon him.

Soon the doors opened up, and he walked out of the elevator.

However he became relaxed after looking at the person standing in front of his apartment.

"Thor what are you doing here?"

"James!" Thor exclaimed while playing with the umbrella in his hand.

"What are you doing here?"James questioned him while internally sighing in relief and went to unlock the door of his apartment.

"I am here to meet you, of course," Thor replied.

"Anyways come inside first," James said and entered his apartment.

Thor entered the apartment after James and sat on the couch, while James went in the kitchen to make coffee for both of them.

"So what's the reason of such a sudden visit?" James asked again while passing the cup of coffee to Thor.

"You don't have any beer?" Thor frowned, still accepting the cup of coffee from James.

"Wait for few more months," James said and sat on the couch too.

"I am here on the orders of my father, Odin," Thor said while taking a sip of his coffee. "He has invited you to Asgard. Although he hasn't told me the reason, he said that it was extremely important for you to visit Asgard."

'Inviting me to Asgard,' James was surprised as the high and mighty Odin had 'invited' him to the realm of Asgard instead of forcefully taking him there.

Odin was far more powerful then James currently. He could easily coerce James in and force him to do anything. There was no need for him to cordially send Thor to invite a mere mortal.

'I guess he didn't do so because of the presence of the Ancient One or maybe some other reason...,' James was lost in his thoughts.

"So are you coming or not?" Thor asked James interrupting his train of thoughts.

"Anything for you buddy," James said causally still trying to figure out the reason for such an invitation.

On the surface it looked like Odin had given him a choice whether to go to Asgard or not. But James knew it clearly that, if he refused to go to Asgard, he would thoroughly offend Odin by showing such disrespect. Odin may look like an amiable person in the movies, but for him to reign as the King of Asgard, he definitely had shed a lot of blood and offending him would lead to unpredictable consequences.

If James was right, then he may be protected by the Ancient One, but still the Ancient One died before Odin in the movies and if Odin want to seek revenge, he will definitely do so after the death of the Ancient One.

Thor was a naive guy and had no idea of such undercurrents behind Odin's invitation.

'Maybe I am being too paranoid,' James frowned. 'But still it costs me nothing to be cautious. But I am 80% sure that he would at least not kill me,' James concluded.

"Bye the way, why did your father invite me. Is it anything serious?" James asked Thor.

"No idea," Thor said merrily.

Hearing such response James wanted to throw the coffee mug at Thor's face.

'Nevermind, it wouldn't hurt him either,' James thought gloomily and resisted such impulse.

'I just hope that old man has not gone insane and try to murder me on the spot,' James sighed.

"What about your brother? What happened after you left Earth?" James asked him curiously.

After hearing the question, Thor said seriously, "My brother, he....."

"Died?" James interrupted him.

"No, he's alive," Thor shouted. "He's now been locked and facing the punishment for his deeds," Thor further continued.

"At least the trouble's over," James said but internally he was surprised due to the change in the plot.

'Loki didn't get the chance to fake his death and instead was captured. Was this due to my interference in the marvel plot, but I barely even did anything. Also I am not strong enough to influence the main plot, then why...wait a second, the angel did tell me that to fit my existence in this world there would be some changes in the plot. I guess this might be one of the change she was talking about...,' James was lost in his thoughts.

"...and this is how I defeated Loki. Hey are you even listening?" Thor rambled.

"Uh, Yes of course, you were talking about how you defeated Loli," James said absentmindedly.

'Now will the plot of the first part Avengers still take place or not? Loki's capture has complicated things a lot. Hopefully the attack on New York won't happen,' James hoped and cleared his mind of these thoughts.

"Its Loki not Loli and what the hell are you even thinking about?" Thor retorted. "Hmm, now that I think about it the word Loli has nice ring to it. Finally I have a new nickname for Loki," Thor had an evil smile on his face.

"Do you even know what Loli means?" James laughed.

"No, what does it mean?" Thor asked.

"I too have no idea," James lied with a straight face.

"It just has a funny ring to it," Thor trailed.

"Anyways, when are we going to leave?" James questioned.

"Tomorrow morning," Thor replied. "For now, I am your guest, one who has not eaten anything for past few hours," he continued.

"Well what do you wanna eat?" James stood up. Although he had dinner few minutes earlier, he was still hungry. Such hunger was as the result of his increased physical strength. In order to avoid suspicion, he ate normal quantity of food with his friends.

"Shawarma sounds good," Thor said licking his lips.

"Shawarma it is then," James smiled.
