Chapter 24 - Unexpected Visitors

I stood outside the barracks to get some fresh air. It was night, and many of the other War-Knights had gone to sleep. I was supposed to be sleeping as well, but I sneaked out. Something felt like it was off today. In the afternoon, after training, many of the employees and soldiers were dispatched out from their posts and went to the command headquarters. I don't know if it was part of some drill, but most of us were left unattended after that point. I'm sure something was happening, but they didn't want to tell us.

As I reflected on my suspicions, I noticed a small opening in one of the steel fences surrounding the military base. Normally, there would be guards watching the outside, but no one was posted since the afternoon. I felt a duty to see why or who caused the opening in the steel fence, as it had not been there before.

Maybe someone escaped? Or did someone break in?

As I walked closer and thought to myself, I started to see a flashing light. Someone had a flashlight on outside the fence. There were trees, so I couldn't see well. Whoever they were, they were not supposed to be there. As they walked closer, I hid myself behind a concrete barrier behind the fence. I could hear them getting closer. I could hear someone talking.

"You sure this is where that kid is?"

Said one of the voices.

"I'm telling you, this is it! Rumors say he got taken here by some government agents."

Said another voice.

They were talking about someone in particular who had been taken here. I guess they were talking about a War-Knight cadet. But why would these guys break in here for a cadet?

The men then snuck through the hole and started walking slowly. They wore black clothing, and it was too dark for me to see what they were holding beside their flashlights. Then, I realized that they were walking straight towards me for some reason. They're going to see me here if they keep going! What do I do?

"Thank god these idiots got so distracted and baffled by the bombings that they forgot to protect their own base!"

One of the men said.

"Yeah, your right!"

As I heard the last voice, they were passing by the concrete barrier I was hiding at. Bombing? Never mind, they're surely going to see me. I have no choice but to do something.

"So yeah- wait, who's there?!"

One of the men exclaimed.

I dashed towards the closest one and gut-punched him. The man groaned in pain and I proceeded to put him in a chokehold. As I grabbed him, I noticed something fall from his hands. But I was more focused on him fighting back, so I grabbed a hold of him tightly while shielding myself with his body. The other man pointed what I thought to be a gun at me and his partner.

"What the fuck? Who are you? Wait…"

The man stopped halfway through his sentence. I responded.

"Both of you aren't supposed to be here. Why are you here? If you try anything, I'll break his neck."

"You… your Hiro Saito, right?"

The man somehow knew my name.

"Again, why are both of you here?"

I responded.

The man I had in a chokehold then tried to talk.

"Arghh… we're looking for you! We won't hurt you! Please let me go!"

The other guy said something about looking for me. Me? Why would these goons try to look for me?

The man in front of me then lowered his gun and became passive. I then loosened my grip on the other man's neck.

"Why are both of you breaking in here looking for me? And what was the about a bombing? Answer me!"

I demanded them to answer me.

"Your higher-ups didn't tell you about the bombings? The Shinjuku and Shibuya train stations were bombed and hundreds of kamikaze drones ravaged Tokyo."

I don't know if this guy was being truthful or not, but I couldn't wrap my head around what he had said. Bombing the two most visited train stations in Japan? And drones blowing up all over the city? Why? Who would do such a thing? I had many more questions, but I still wanted to know why they were there.

"You still haven't told me why you're looking for me."

I told the man. The man I was chokeholding then started to talk.

"We were tasked with finding you and getting you out of here! Our boss wanted to talk to you and give you an offer so that you join us!"

Suddenly, one of their walkie-talkies started going off and a familiar voice started emitting from it.

"Y'all find him yet? It's been a while now, and I'm losing my patience out here."

The voice emitting from the walkie-talkie was exactly like the leader of the Young Killer's gang. Bleed was his name.

"Yes sir, we have him right here!"

"Oh, is he? Yo Hiro, if you can hear me, you thought you would never see me again, huh? Well I still need you for a very important task, so imma have to cut your training short! Not like you need it!"

My leader, or should I say former leader Bleed, was talking on those men's walkie-talkies like if they worked for him or something. I had so many questions about what was happening. Who bombed Tokyo? What did Bleed need me for? Who were these people who sneaked in? My questions and confusion would lead me to consider maybe meeting up with Bleed to ask him what was going on. I knew he was the only one who could clarify to me why all of this was happening right now…
