Chapter 8 - Final test

Without waiting I jumped to the side before firing off my first shot. The recoil was minimal and my aim was semi-decent for firing a gun for the first time as the bullet sent out a vicious cry as it tore wind from space towards my enemy.

A look of shock was etched into her face as she stared at the hole in her hand. She looked at me with a mix of awe and something close to fear. Her wound healed almost instantly as she dashed towards me. Her scythe glowed a brooding crimson and released a haze of mist before she slashed it in my direction. An arch of crimson flew from the tip of the scythe in my direction tearing through the skin on my arm as I just barely dodged.

She didn't relent as she sent countless attacks as we battled in what seemed to be the most harrowing fight yet. Each time one of us had an advantage we would adapt to make the battle more equal. Days of constant battle continued as I mastered my weapon and spells, Honing them to the point where I could tell that I had mastered it.

We pushed ourselves to hit the other. I could feel a strong bond as corpses unceremoniously littered the ground. I felt more at ease at the start but the more we fought against each other the more hungry for the battle I had gotten. Guns, Blades and unique magic, I used them all along with new types of equipment and artifacts that we would equip after each short break.

The land took the brunt of the damage as our battle raged on burning the flowers and marrying the floor with our blood. Each time I died I got stronger, increasing my output of strength and agility while honing my reaction times. The floor was beginning to be littered with an equal amount of mine and her corpses as we endlessly danced in this joyous battle.

I started using her elements in ways that she had never thought of, Teleporting or blinking into blind spots, cutting reality and making barriers to block attacks. Using shadows to create illusions and Her unique constellation magic to cast buffs and AOE spells. Her use of spells were magical the efficiency and unique ideas were a spring of inspiration for me.

I couldn't help but laugh and she joined as we stained each other in blood. My lust for battle increased but I also loved the time we spent with each other.

Each battle told me more than words could ever, She was hiding it but I could feel it. Her obsession with me, the joy she felt around me and the love she hid within her heart. Each moment became precious as we dismembered each other, clashed weapons and let the madness take over.

My growth was only possible because I had died so many times to her and I couldn't help but be thankful that she had helped me of her own volition. Even if it was painful to kill me so may times.

It was finally coming to an end. We had fought each other for the last four months non-stop. Somersaulting over her head I pulled the trigger on my pistol unloading the entire magazine however it was blocked by her on instinct alone.

Landing gracefully on the ground I threw the gun into my dimensional space as I pulled out a pitch black scythe made of my condensed blood. It wasn't nearly as powerful as hers but it had become an extension of me. We clashed, punched kicked and bled on each other before I decided to truly end the battle. Swinging my scythe horizontally she prepared a block, However I put the blade in my dimensional space before it hit her and pulled out some short blades and darts. Piercing her foot with the darts I continued an endless onslaught of merging with each others shadows before putting all my power into the final blow.

Omitting all defence for offence we both slashed at the same time causing me to decapitate her and for me to be sliced in half.

"Hahahaha I won! Finally we broke the tie. "

"Says the person cut in half right now.?"

A look of boredom was on her face.

"Tis but a flesh wound!"

Slowly my legs and body reattached themselves before healing completely not leaving even the faintest hint of a scar.

"Hehe well I guess you earned that victory. "

Standing together we panted from the inlaid exhaustion we were both feeling before we both fell to the ground like broken dolls.

"I have nothing more to teach you. You are on the same level as me now and you can surely learn the magic easily by now. The last thing to do is tell you of the world layout and then send you off."

Hearing that I felt disheartened. We had spent a long time together leaning on each other for support. My sanity would have surely disappeared if not for the fact that she was here. How was I meant to continue in a world where she didn't exist. It didn't seem right.

"Don't worry about me. I have Lived a fulfilling life and I even got to meet my fated other. You filled me with so much joy and happiness that I can rest peacefully. Here take my knowledge. Slowly but surely she propped herself up before she pressed our foreheads together. My breath hitched in my throat as her knowledge of the world filled my brain. Endless knowledge filled my head about the layout of the world and the races and monsters that filled it."

As I digested that knowledge I felt something soft on my lips. It tasted like cherry and peaches.

"I'm sorry but if I didn't do it like this you wouldn't leave."

Before I could even react the world around me began to turn black.

"no no No Don't do this! Don't do this to me please!? Come back please come back. I don't want to go. I.I.I don't want to leave you."

"Thank you so much Noir or should I say... Jacob."

Heh she knew I was using a fake name.

As my consciousness left me my final view was of her, Tears streaming down her face as she watched me leave. I couldn't help but choke on my own tears knowing that I would never see her again.
