Working at the Library can be hectic. It's not easy to reach those long ass shelves. I was feeling tired as I walked back home. It was almost dark when I entered a small coffee shop a few streets before my home.
I grabbed myself a cup of coffee as I left and started heading towards home. Going back home, I was thinking about my day when suddenly I felt as if someone was watching me.
The feeling made my stomach heavy. I could feel my steps slowly freeze and my palms getting sweaty. It's not really safe in this part of the town and I should probably go back to the coffee shop. But something urged me to stop walking, as if the fear settled sparks down my core.
It was terrifying yet thrilling. No one ever followed me before. By the time I stopped walking completely I could feel their eyes burning holes on my back. Yes. There's someone and they are close. Close enough to harm me. Chills ran down my spin as I suddenly felt someone's breath on my back.
The atmosphere got dense and I could sense their presence behind me. I squeezed my eyes shut and tried to breathe. After a few seconds, I could feel my lungs begging for some air.
The scent of lavenders masked the air. It almost calmed me yet terrified the fuck out of me. Where will lavenders come on a damn fucking road in the middle of a city.
The hair on the back of my neck stood when suddenly I felt my hair falling loose on my back. It was as if my hair tie fell leaving my hair down.
Adrenaline rushed up my nerves and I turned around instantly.
There was no one. The long street was empty. But how? I'm sure I felt someone. I believe there was someone. I looked down to look for my hair tie and it wasn't there. Someone was here, I'm sure.
Finally realisation hit me that I was alone and I could breathe. The atmosphere felt lighter and my hands were cold like a corpse's hand. I realised I was clutching the coffee cup so hard that almost all of it fell. I let the cup fall from my hand.
Without thinking twice I took a run towards home.
When I got home, I decided not to talk about this and worry the old couple. I skipped dinner and went to bed almost silently as if I was trying to hide myself. My grands did not notice much as they carried on silently.
I closed my windows, door and pulled all the curtains. I got inside my bed and covered myself up with blankets. And I don't know how. But I could still feel the eyes.
Someone was looking at me and the feeling of knowing it disgusted my guts. The only thing that seemed logical to me was Elisa. The gossip queen knows everything.
There might be some kind of thief or something running around our town that I'm not aware off, but she knows every fucking news.
I texted Elisa,
Me: Hey, can we meet tomorrow?
I waited for her reply, but she didn't so I dropped another text.
Me: It's kinda urgent....
Still no response.
Me: Had something weird happen on my way home. Perhaps you can help me....
Elisa: SPILL
I rolled my eyes mentally. This girl is hungry for some tea.
Me: I want it to be face to face
Elisa: I gottchu babe
Me: tomorrow at the coffee shop maybe? Around 10?
Elisa: Done
Me: thanks:)
And with that I put my phone under my pillow and sleep instantly took over.
I scrunched my eyes as light fell on them. Slowly rubbing my eyes I opened them. I stretched my arms a turned around.
Elisa smiled at me, awe she lo-, "ahhhhhhh!!!" A scream left my throat and I instantly sat up. I put my hand over my chest and took long breathes. I looked at her and she sat up casually.
She rolled her eyes at my "obvious" reaction. "You're way too soft hearted" she said fixing her hair. "And you are way before time" I told her finally feeling my nerves calm.
"I couldn't wait till 10" she confessed. Once again I mentally rolled my eyes. "Ofcourse, you couldn't" I stated in a straight voice. She gave me that helpless look "Comeon! My bestfriend is in trouble and I need to save her!!" She exaggerated.
And this time I couldn't help but roll my eyes in real. "Sure" sarcasm laced my morning voice. "You don't believe me?" She pushed her lips outside trying to look like a puppy, ended up looking like a pig.
"No" I stated coldly and she fell on my bed dramatically. "Spill the tea alreadyyyyy" she said restlessly. Revenge time. "I need to fresh up in order to remember it" I said straightening my back and getting off the bed.
"Oh come on! I waited all night. I would've crashed at your place last night but I don't want to freak grandpa and grandma" her eyes pleaded. I didn't show any mercy though.
"After I fresh up. Just an hour" I said as I got inside the washroom and heard her call me a bitch. "I heard that" I stated from inside. I giggled when I heard the shuffles in my room and a loud thump. Ofcourse.
She almost fell on my as soon as I opened the bathroom door. I lifted a brow "were you listening to me shower?" I asked with humour filling my voice. Her faced scrunched up immediately "Ew no! I was just waiting for you" she stated getting up.
I grabbed my clothes and went back into the bathroom to change. Once I was done, Elisa practically dragged me towards the bed. "SPILL. NOW" she demanded.
I didn't keep her waiting anymore and told her everything. "....and I couldn't find my hair tie anywhere" I pinned the point.
She wiggled her eyes and said "looks like you have an admirer" ofcourse, what else did I expect from her. "No El, I'm pretty sure it's no admirer" I told as I thought about that night.
"Okay okay girl, calm down. I think you were imagining things. You must've put your hair up in a handbun because it's impossible for someone to run so fast on an empty street that you can't see them anymore" she stated.
But I knew in my guts, there was something wrong. I tried to remember every moment about last night and I could feel the time getting removed f- Elisa placed a hand on my shoulder bringing me back from my thoughts.
"If you're so worried, babe I'll look into it and let you know anything that I find. Okay?" She said with worry filling her eyes.
I nodded.
