"What's wrong? Do you have another objection?" Hamilton looked at Emily Williams coldly. The data had to be inputted into the computer for clarity, transparency, and convenient regular audits.
"It's not appropriate to make personnel transfers at this time because they already have their own positions..." Emily Williams pleaded softly.
Those employees were not easy to deal with. As a newcomer, becoming their boss had already brought a lot of dissatisfaction. If there were further personnel transfers, they would be even more vocal against her.
Hamilton glanced at the indecisive Emily Williams. "Emily, can't you manage your own team? Remove them from their original positions immediately and follow my arrangements from now on."
Emily Williams bit her lip, looking somewhat troubled. "Alright, I'll go talk to them."
Watching the lazy subordinates in the office who took advantage of being senior employees, Emily Williams walked up to them and, following Hamilton's advice, implemented the personnel transfers.
As expected, the next moment they started to criticize. "What do you mean, Manager Emily? Why do you have the authority to move us to positions requiring overtime at any time? What gives you the right to demote us?"
"Well..." Faced with the intimidating demeanor of her subordinates, Emily Williams appeared somewhat helpless.
"That's what I mean. Emily just announced it according to my wishes," Hamilton stepped in to defend her at the crucial moment.
Knowing it was Hamilton's decision, everyone fell silent.
"Why aren't you saying anything now? Speak up if you have any objections," Hamilton coldly observed the employees who had just been negotiating confidently with Emily Williams. "If there are no objections, then follow this arrangement and get to work."
"What about Manager Emily? How will her work be arranged?" someone asked. If Hamilton gave her an easy job, they wouldn't accept it.
"Manager Emily will accompany me on a tour of the entire hotel today. The hotel is so big that I imagine it would be exhausting to walk the whole distance. If you like, I don't mind if you come along," Hamilton smiled at them.
"We won't disturb you then." The group dispersed with awkward smiles.
"Alright, I need to familiarize myself with the hotel environment. Emily, I appreciate your help," Hamilton smiled at Emily Williams and extended his hand, gesturing for her to go ahead.
Although Emily Williams felt sorry for the personnel arrangements, she obeyed Hamilton's orders and left the office.
As soon as the two figures left, murmurs started in the office.
"It's only been one night, and I have no idea what Emily Williams said to Mr. Hamilton, but she's already stabbing us in the back early in the morning."
"Yeah, I wonder what seductive tricks she used to get promoted by the chairman, and now she's cozying up to Mr. Hamilton. She even orders us to do the most tiring work. She's such a flirt."
The employees' discontent was evident, but little did they know, Emily Williams' job was far more challenging than sitting in an air-conditioned office like them.
Under the pretext of being familiar with the hotel environment, Hamilton asked Emily Williams to accompany him throughout the entire hotel. They visited various departments, hotel rooms, restaurants, entertainment facilities, and even the courtyard garden.
On the way back from the garden, Emily Williams felt her legs, clad in high heels, were already swollen.
Finally, when the chairman asked Hamilton to visit the office, she was allowed a short break.
Sitting on a bench in the corridor, Emily Williams freed her feet from the confines of her high heels and bent down to examine her injuries carefully.
The back of her heels turned purple from the friction of the shoe edges. She had no idea where Hamilton would go next, but at this moment, she really didn't want to take another step.
Hamilton emerged from the chairman's office and saw Emily Williams sitting on the bench, bowing her head, inspecting her feet. He furrowed his brows. Indeed, he had to admit that the special assistant assigned to him by the chairman was quite dedicated. Despite walking such a long distance in high heels, she showed no complaints in front of him. However, it was too early to make a final judgment; he still needed to test her patience.
Hamilton, with his long legs, strides towards Emily Williams and coughs lightly with his fist covering his lips.
Emily Williams raised her head, hurriedly put on her high heels, and quickly stood up, looking like she was ready to comply with orders.
"Go back to the office and bring me the expense reimbursement forms for the past two years."
"Oh, sure," Emily Williams replied as she walked briskly towards the finance department.
Emily Williams placed two thick ledgers in front of Hamilton and then comfortably sat on the sofa on the side, thinking that maybe Hamilton had a change of heart and spared her. She happily squinted her eyes.
"Hey, go get me a cup of coffee first," Hamilton said, sitting in front of his desk, attentively reading the ledgers without lifting his head.
Emily Williams looked at him and realized she had overestimated his conscience, or rather, he had none at all.
Frustration filled Emily Williams, but she still stood up and quickly walked towards the door.
"The coffee is here." Emily Williams placed a hot cup of coffee at one corner of the desk, glancing at Alex Hamilton 's progress.
Alex Hamilton was busy circling and marking the ledger with a pen, without lifting his head to look at her. He simply reached out to grab the coffee, took a sip, and furrowed his brows involuntarily.
"Have you never brewed coffee before?" Alex Hamilton gave Emily Williams a dissatisfied look.
"Huh?" Emily Williams was confused by his words.
"I poured it out, go outside and buy me a cup." Alex Hamilton placed the barely touched coffee back on the desk.
"Oh." Emily Williams responded, picked up the coffee cup, turned around, and clenched her teeth. She walked out of the door in frustration.
Outside the window, the streetlights blinked while the two people inside the car remained silent.
Emily Williams sat in the driver's seat and drove the car. She really didn't know how she managed to get through these seemingly short yet endlessly long two days.
During these two days, Alex Hamilton didn't miss any chance to torment her. No matter how confidently she completed tasks, he always found faults and constantly picked on her. Emily Williams felt like she was losing her confidence, she had never felt so inadequate before.
"Such a failure." Emily Williams let out a sigh.
Unbeknownst to Emily Williams, Alex Hamilton had been watching her through the rearview mirror. Even the slightest expression on her face would be captured by his eyes.
"Pay more attention when driving, don't become absent-minded." Alex Hamilton seized the opportunity to speak.
"Oh." Emily Williams responded and glanced at him through the rearview mirror, wondering how he knew she was thinking about something else.
Unexpectedly, Emily Williams' small movement caught Alex Hamilton 's attention once again. He sat up straight in the back seat and looked at her through the rearview mirror, "Do you have any objections?"
Emily Williams turned her head to look at him, then continued to focus on the road ahead, "How did you know I was thinking about something?"
"Don't ask such stupid questions, I don't feel like answering." Alex Hamilton continued to look at his documents.
"Fine, I won't argue with you."
Emily Williams couldn't wait to send Alex Hamilton back to his place. Tomorrow, she would have a day off, which meant she wouldn't have to see him for the whole day. She could go home and enjoy her mother's cooking and soup. It was great. Thinking about this, her mood instantly improved. She wished she could kick the man behind her back to the United States and return to being herself easily.
The car drove through the gates of the villa, and Emily Williams turned to give Alex Hamilton a glance. "You go inside, I will come to pick you up and take you to the hotel the day after tomorrow," she said.
Alex Hamilton closed the files and said, "The day after tomorrow? No, you must come over tomorrow."
"What's the matter? I have a day off tomorrow," Emily Williams replied, puzzled. She looked at him, wondering if he wanted to occupy her rare day off as well.
"I am not satisfied with the decoration of the villa. Tomorrow, you will come and help me redecorate," Alex Hamilton said bluntly.
"But the decoration is good, why suddenly unsatisfied?" Emily Williams couldn't understand Alex Hamilton 's request.
"If it was good, I wouldn't ask you to redecorate it," Alex Hamilton said calmly. He was not happy with the decoration, and tormenting her and making her angry was his intention. Nothing made him happier than tormenting and infuriating her.
Truly a heartless capitalist, Emily Williams cursed silently in her heart. But she quickly put on a smile and said, "Alright, then I will call an interior design company tomorrow to come and redecorate according to your ideas."
"You are too naive, aren't you?" Alex Hamilton poured cold water on her with a single sentence.
"What's wrong with what I'm doing when you said you want to change the decoration?" Emily Williams was driven crazy by this man.
"Hiring workers means paying salaries. You wouldn't want to add another expense to the company's budget, would you? This time, you will personally help me with the decoration," Alex Hamilton said without courtesy, and then got out of the car.
"I am not a decoration worker," Emily Williams shouted angrily at Alex Hamilton 's back.
Alex Hamilton ignored her and walked up the steps, opened the door, and gently closed it behind him.
Emily Williams didn't know if she was having bad luck, why she had to encounter a boss like Alex Hamilton , who was nitpicky and always finding faults.
The next day, when she stood in the living room of Alex Hamilton 's villa, she couldn't understand why he was still so picky about such luxurious and impressive decoration. The blue curtains were elegant and grand, the walls painted a light yellow gave a bright and warm feeling, and the light green sofa cushions added a fresh and elegant touch. She had designed all this based on his handsome and graceful appearance in the photos. Yet he had wasted her efforts and made her rearrange everything.
Alex Hamilton , dressed in casual attire and holding a cup of coffee, walked up to her. He scrutinized her from head to toe before saying, "Why are you dressed so casually today?"
Emily Williams looked up and replied, "Is this considered casual? When it comes to doing manual labor, it's better to dress simple."
"Being prepared and devoted to work, huh? Alright then, let's start with the living room." Alex Hamilton finished his sentence with a smirk and sat down on the sofa, sipping his coffee as he watched her begin.
