Chapter 17 - Chapter 17: Advertisements

It was a slow day overall, the sun shone in the sky. Everything was peaceful, Mordred's hoard was going to die of boredom. The usual whenever they were free.

In the streets of London, there were youths that are passing fliers.

"Why do we have to do this again?" Ise groaned, she has grown up nicely with her time in Mordred's kin. The brunette now looked like a girl that did sports.

"Tiamat said that we have to train to be independent. Only Mordred will receive her treasures. So we have to do some work." Vali grumbled as she gave a flier with a strained smile.

"Then why isn't Lavinia-nee doing this as well?" Shirone was the most popular, her stack was almost gone. Even though she had a blank face on while passing the fliers.

"Lavinia is a master magician before she was recruited by Mordred Shirone. She is rich, Grauzauberer made her a lot of money." Dulio explained with a wry smile.

He was eating some ice cream while lazily giving some fliers.

"Why is Dulio the second place in giving a lot of fliers?" Ise squinted her eyes.

"Because I'm cute? I have natural blonde hair that catches the eye. And you're a boring brunette." Dulio chuckled.

"Then why aren't I getting people to take these accursed contract papers?" Vali hissed.

"Heh, I'm doing better than you even." Ise sneered at her.

"I'm going to kill you." Vali spat out darkly, glaring at her.

"It's because you have a scowl on your face Vali." Mordred gave her a side eye and she whimpered.

"Why are you even doing this Mordred nya?" Kuroka asked. She was lazing around, claiming that she could give the papers in one fell swoop.

"I can't let you do all the work, as your master. I have to lead by example." Mordred said with a regal aura.

He was already on his third stack, his charm too high for the peasants.

"I guess I should also do mine~ Hello nya, call if you want something. For a price of course~" Kuroka was targeting everyone with her cuteness and charm.

"That's not fair! We don't know how to do that!" Ise whined and Mordred stared at her.

"Do your job Ise, or I won't let you touch my chest." He gave her an ultimatum and she paled. "N-no, I will be good, I promise! I will go weak if I can't touch your chest." Ise pleaded.

"That's what I thought." Mordred snorted and Vali smirked at her.

"Heh, I'll be able to enjoy his butt by myself Ise." Vali taunted her.

"Shut up! You're the worst one here you idiot! It's because you look old due to your hair!" Ise fired back.

"Y-you... Come here! I'll beat you black and blue!" Vali growled.

"That's it, you both won't be touching me." Mordred announced with finality and the two froze.

They then despaired. Crying out to the heavens about the unfairness of the world.

"Fuuu~ I'm done!" Kuroka sighed and she started to laze around again.

"Nya~ Look at me Ise, Vali. You should've just done your job nya~" Kuroka went to Mordred and she latched onto him. Rubbing his chest and butt.

"It should've been me! Not her!" Ise did an orz and Vali looked like her soul left for the purelands.

"Stop being silly, if only you did your work." Dulio rolled his eyes.

"Why is it even like this Mordred-nii?" Shirone pointed at their advertisement.

"What? It's honest and people know what to expect." Mordred raised a brow.

"It's kinda bad, fulfill your reasonable desires for an equivalent exchange? Isn't it too simple?" Dulio thought they won't be called for contracts.

"Ohh? Someone is calling for me already." Mordred's magic circle was buzzing and he was getting an important client.

His only gets called when the called had a good amount of magic power. Being an efficient machine, he created the contracts to sense strong individuals.

"Great, it's working I guess." Dulio thought he has the devil's luck or something.

"Okay, I expect you to complete handing out your fliers when I'm done." Mordred scolded the two heavenly dragons.

"Be safe nya~" Shirone and Kuroka kissed his cheeks.

He snapped his fingers after going in an alley. Teleporting to the client's location.

"Hmm? Salt? Why are you summoning me in a circle of salt?" Mordred questioned his summoner that was a ginger.

A young girl that looks to be a year younger than him called for him. Her blue eyes were a cerulean blue. Like the deep ocean that can draw you in.

"Uhhh, I had to be careful! This flier looks like it came from a devil!" She pointed at the magic circle inside it.

"You do know that all magic uses magic circles right? Except for special ones?" Mordred raised a brow at her.

"I didn't know." She blinked dumbly and he sighed. "So? My dear summoner, I am Mordred Pendragon. A dragon that will fulfill a reasonable wish, for a price of course." He looked at her with interest.

She has a holy presence around her. 'A sacred gear wielder? It seems that handing out fliers is a good idea. You are my lucky star mom.'

"I... I want to be recognized as a legitimate member of the royal family!" She looked bitter and hateful.

"Do you really?" Mordred could see the pain in her eyes. He doubted that being a part of the royal family would bring her happiness.

"Of course! I have royal blood! I should be a part of it!" The girl shouted, she was desperate for it. Or that's how she saw it.

"What's your name?" Mordred walked over the circle of salt. "And by the way, this doesn't work against devils too." He pointed out.

She might get fucked over by a malicious devil if she calls one and thinks that she's safe.

"Meredith Ordinton... I'm an illegitimate child of the royal family of England..." She whispered, almost too quietly that he only heard because of his inhuman specs.

"Is that so?" Mordred snorted. He is the king of knights chosen by the sword of selection. He is the spiritual and rightful king of England.

"What? I knew it, you can't do it can you?" Meredith sneered and he rolled his eyes.

"Are you deaf? I told you, I am Mordred Pendragon. Ring any bells? Do you even study? You should read more." Mordred actually got concerned that she wasn't receiving an education.

"I... I heard you! But aren't they gone now? The Pendragon family that is around is fake!" Meredith didn't believe that the current Pendragons were like the legendary king Arthur that united England centuries past.

Mordred took out Caliburn and tapped it onto the floor. He put his hands on the pommel and the sword shone brightly like a floodlight.

"W-what is that!?" Meredith shielded her eyes. She felt her body submit to the aura of the divine.

"It is Caliburn, the sword of selection. I am its wielder, you know what that means right?" He reeled in its overwhelming power and stored it again.

"T-the king of knights... You're the king of knights." Meredith gasped and she didn't know what to think, her mind was running a mile a minute.

"Yes, that I am Meredith. And you aren't related to me as far as I know. Even the current Pendragons have blood so thin that they are hardly related to me. So you aren't really royalty, just like your father and their ancestors." Mordred poured cold water on her burning desire.

"B-but... They're the ones ruling right now... It can't be." She held her head and was having a mental breakdown.

"Be calm, I will bring you a revelation instead for free. Is it being in the royal family you desire? Or belonging to a loving family? Call me again when you have found your answer." Mordred patted her head and he disappeared.

She went quiet for a long time. His words resonating inside of her mind.

"I met the king of knights... England's rightful ruler..." Meredith blinked, she still couldn't believe it.

"The royal family's got nothing on him, he could just waltz in and take the royal family's throne. But why isn't he?" Meredith couldn't wrap her head around it.

"If it was me, I would take it without hesitation. It's mine after all." The girl squinted her eyes.

"But... Is that what I really want?" She thought deeply about his words.

The royal family ignores her, even bringing her mother and herself away from the castle so they won't be recognized as royalty. Or it would be a huge scandal.

The young girl started to think more about what she truly wanted.

Mordred returned to his group and he looked suspiciously at Vali and Ise that didn't have any fliers anymore.

"Did you really give it all?" He raised a brow and they nodded with a smile.

"Y-yeah! We definitely did, didn't we Vali?" Ise elbowed the girl and she nodded.

"Of course Mordred, we finished quickly when we put our minds to it." Vali's smile was strained.

"What did they do Shirone?" Mordred asked the youngest member. "They threw it away, they couldn't finish it at all."

The heavenly dragons paled as Mordred looked at them coldly.

"I am disappointed in you. Such a trivial task, you can't even complete it? I am doubting if I can trust you with bigger tasks." Mordred shook his head and teleported away.

They froze in their place. Dulio and Kuroka winced. He has never said that to them. Even when Kuroka was lazing around, or Shirone was being unreasonable by hogging his lap all the time.

Vali and Ise started crying and Dulio sighed. "You deserved that, you know how serious Mordred is."

"He doesn't do anything useless nya. He must be doing this to find more sacred gear wielders you know? I won't fault you for it because we are still young. But with all your time with him, you should already understand how he works. It's so simple too." Kuroka chided them, which was rare.

"What nee-sama said." Shirone backed her up and the two didn't know what to do.

"Are they correct Albion?" Vali asked for a second opinion.

"That they are, Mordred Pendragon is really easy to figure out Vali. He does not like treachery at all. Must be due to the historical Mordred." Albion sighed.

"You messed up partner, that guy rarely gets angry. Well, he wasn't really. He was disappointed in you two." Ddraig chimed in.

"W-what do we do?" Ise looked at her counterpart. "Pick it up again and do it properly. This is actually important even if he doesn't get any sacred gear wielders." Dulio advised.

"Yeah, he did the most and you just threw out his hard work in creating those magic circles like trash. Mordred is giving us an opportunity to make our own money or connections." Kuroka explained.

They immediately went to the trash and picked up all of the fliers. Doing it properly this time without fighting one another.

Mordred went to Grauzauberer where Lavinia was socializing with other mages. She was still hard at work in trying to find Glenda, her master.

"Hello Lavinia." Mordred greeted and she immediately noticed that he was displeased.

"What's wrong Mordred?" She hugged him, she was the oldest in the group and was sort of their caretaker.

"Ise and Vali disobeyed me. Am I that much of a bad king? That I can't even make them do something important that will help their careers?" Mordred shared to her and Lavinia's eyes darkened.

"They fooled around with passing on contracts huh?" She would have to teach them the importance of those later.

"Yeah, I even led with example." He didn't understand why they were like that.

"Mo-kun... You see, you are really different from other people." Lavinia noticed it early on.

Mordred is socially blunted to the point that he was similar to people with mild autism.

His bluntness, trouble understanding, rigidness. He would need a lot of work. Especially because Tiamat taught him to be like a lone wolf.

Dragons are naturally asocial creatures in the first place. It didn't help that he was raised by Tiamat who is a dragon king that climbed there by her lonesome.

"Ohh, Mo-kun. It's okay, you are a good leader. You always give examples first. Showing them how to do what is right. And you take care of everyone. Even studying well to be well informed." Lavinia caressed his hair.

"Hmmm~ But why? If I taught them well, then they should know what is the reason for this." Mordred frowned.

"They are young Mo-kun, I have been like that once too. Everyone is different, but children are quite similar. They're impulsive and can't see the future well unlike... You." Lavinia pointed out their differences.

"I see, do I need to change that?" Mordred thought it was a bad trait.

"Not really, they'll grow out of it. They will change Mo-kun. You will be a bad king if you don't understand that and force them to change. You work around them. Of course, when they are being unreasonable, you beat it out of them. We are dragons, that should be fine." Lavinia chuckled.

"I see, so give them leeway? It's natural that they are like that and it will pass? I am not a bad master?" Mordred looked up at her and Lavinia saw that he was bothered by it a lot.

'Mo-kun is under a lot of pressure... He is like a rock, but even water can wear it down.' Lavinia kissed his forehead lovingly.

"You are your own person Mo-kun, I will just give you advice. It is your decision, but Tiamat and I will help you along the way." Lavinia smiled at him.

"Thank you Lavinia." He hugged her and rubbed his face on her chest.

"Ara~ Mo-kun is so affectionate. I am your kin, it's natural. You will be doing great things, and we will be beside Mo-kun no matter what." Lavinia hugged him tightly.

"Un, you're the second best Lavinia. After mom that is. Makes me remember when I used to feed on her. You're really similar." He rubbed her chest and Lavinia panicked a bit.

"M-maybe when you're older Mo-kun?" She gave a cramped smile.

As a dragon, she desired the strongest mate. And Mordred is the only one in sight. It made her instincts flare when he rubbed her chest softly.

'I might attack Mo-kun... I guess a mix of hormones and instincts of a dragon is troublesome.' Lavinia sighed.

"Okay, I'll marry you too when I grow up." He beamed at her and she put a hand on her chest.

"Uuuu! You're soo cute!" She glomped him and they cycled their mana with each other. Feeling at peace with one another's presence.
