The door opened to another winding staircase. Ruby gingerly looked back at the woman who still sat in the reception. The woman eyes her back with some curiosity and some humor mixed in her gaze. Ruby looked at Gavin, who was still waiting for her to step in. Sensing her hesitation, he took the first step.
"This used to be the home of a woman named Elif Shafak."
Ruby gasped. "The author?"
"Nope, this woman had nothing to do with writing. Anyway, she built this house to live with her British husband. In her thirties, her husband died mysteriously, and the lady disappeared for a week. Nobody knows to date where she went. When she returned, she ordered a huge construction work. She made changes in the house. The construction company came from another city." They continued ascending towards an opening.
