The dream was, once again, not just a dream but a beautiful memory of how loving and playful Gavin and Ruby were. Earlier, whenever she had these dreams, she would feel a deep attraction towards Gavin. She would try to justify his actions, forgive him, and even forget about his deeds and misdeeds.
The turn-off was probably seeing Ruby's faded self. The glimmer of hope that somewhere in his heart he had a place for Cece was brutally extinguished as she realised the truth—she was nothing but an updated version of the woman lying there in that picturesque bedroom. The house of cards she had been building in her head broke apart.
"If you wanted the assimilation to happen, you shouldn't have kidnapped me that night," she said to Gavin. He heard her and carefully deflected.
