Rina's POV
"Wha-?"
It was so sudden that my mind went blank when I saw the dirty looking thug got shot on the head. I didn't even notice the other thug also got shot. As I try to understand what just happened, the horse panicked and began to thrash around making the carriage shake so much. Before I could try to hold on to the cage, the horse also got shot in the head with two arrows. With both riders and the horse dead, the carriage stops.
I'm very terrified right now. This is the first time I saw a dead person, not only that but two of them. I feel like vomiting right now but I sucked it in because of what about to happen next. Terrified about what is going on since it could be bandits that shot them and with no way to escape, I am frozen still where I sit.
Feeling a presence coming closer, I closed my eyes and dared not look at the direction of where it came from. The presence is getting close and with each footstep makes me tremble. Knowing what will happen to me if I got captured by bandits, I got so scared that I feel like I could pass out.
"Are you okay?"
"...Huh?"
The voice sounds so young. Feeling less scared and got curious, I turn my head to follow the voice. What I saw was a boy who looked like the same age as me. He has black hair and deep blue eyes as it sucks me in as I look more into it. His facial expression looks blank, but concern can be felt with his eyes.
He is cute too. His adolescent face has this childish yet manly shape. He looks so cool. Not only that, he is wearing some type of armor with a cloak covering most of it, which makes him look twice as cool.
His appearance made a huge impact on me that I don't feel terrified anymore.
"So... uh... are you okay?"
"Oh... umm... I'm fine."
"Really?... You don't look fine to me."
Indeed, I still felt sick and terrified at what just happened. I glance a bit to the dead bodies before looking back to the boy.
" Ah..."
He looked at them and then gave a nod.
"It must be your first time to see a corpse, but you have to get over it because it's the way of the world."
He then looked at me.
"You are about to be sold or something similar, yeah? So you must not dwell on it since they are your captors."
He walks closer to me.
"Of course, that doesn't mean you have to do it right now because what you are feeling, guilt, fright or concern are the proof that you are a human being."
"... Mhm."
With that, I took a deep breath and calm myself.
In this situation, I should stay vigilant and wary of him since he is the one who killed them, but he rescued me so I could trust him a little.
"Seems you have calmed down."
"Yeah."
"Well, for now, let's leave this place and get back to my camp"
"Umm, thank you for rescuing me."
He gave me a small smile.
"You're welcome."
"I-is it alright for me to come with you?"
"I don't see why not? since I rescued you and all..."
"But..."
"It's my responsibility to look out for you now since I got involved, so don't worry about it, yeah?"
He then offered his hand and gave a reassuring smile.
"... Okay."
I smiled and took his hand.
As we move away from the carriage, he handed me some sort of red cloth and boots.
"For now, wear this and cover yourself with this cloth."
I do as I told and wear them.
"That's all I have right now, but I'll hand you proper clothes after we get back."
"Thank you... umm"
"Hmm? Ahh... That's right, I forgot to introduce myself, I'm Garwyr."
"I'm Rina."
"Then let's go, Rina."
As we get went our way back his camp, we came across some monsters. Some of them are "Goblins" and "Kobolds", even "Orcs" in which, according to my past life, are twice as strong of an average human warrior. They all look so scary and strong that I got scared standing still. The surprising part is that Garwyr easily defeated them all with just a dagger. He said to leave the corpses and let other monsters take care of them. Although I still feel sick about the corpses, it felt such a waste to leave their materials behind, but since I'm still relying on him, I just followed him without bringing out the topic.
"You're so strong, Garwyr."
"Really? This is normal for a hunter, though."
"I think normal hunters can't fight many of them at once with a dagger."
"Is that so?"
"Besides, why didn't you use your bow?"
"Because they are not worth it."
"Uhh..."
'What does that mean?' a question pops in my mind as I tilt my head slightly. He then stopped and then looked at me.
"They are not valuable enough to 'hunt'."
He shrugs and then proceeds his way.
"It must be a hunter thing."
I muttered to myself.
"Either that or he is a strange one..."
"I can hear you, you know."
I followed after him.
