Chapter 23 - TWENTY-THREE: THE BLIZZARDKIN CLAN

The Knowledge of the Blizzardkin clan was already at 80% and I could access all the information that was downloading in my memory like it had been part of my memory.

That feature could've come in handy when I was studying for exams back at home.

"I hope 80% will be enough to cover the information needed about these creatures and find ways to defeat them"

'Hope' That was a weird thing to come out from someone that was trapped in a dark place with strangers that she could barely trust and insane creatures just a few meters away.

" The Blizzardkin clan is a group of creatures that have been in the Coldlands as far back as the beginning of the existence of the Coldlands. They could be said to be the pioneers of the Coldlands.

These creatures were not always like their present body morphology; over the years nature had forced them to slowly evolve from empty skeletal creatures to develop little fur around certain parts of their bodies.

These creatures have had a hierarchical system which they were born into, which divided them into three main groups;

1. Warriors of the Blizzardkin clan

2. Leaders of the Blizzardkin clan

3. The commoners

The warriors of the Blizzardkin clan include the king, the hunters, and the cave pavers. The commoners were the ones I used to refer to as the weak ones.

A social construct forced upon them by the previous generation of kings created a new group of creatures called the outcasts.

The king possesses psychic powers that could be used to subdue creatures that dared to challenge it and sentence them to a life of horror tending to the pots in their kitchen. You might be thinking it isn't a huge deal but wait till you see these kitchens. These kitchens have large pots that are heated by fire hot enough to melt regular steel metal. Which can make you wonder what these pots are made of. The cave pavers bring out certain minerals from the cave walls that they use to make these pots.

Each of these creatures has a particular duty ascribed to them. The hunters of the Blizzardkin clan exist to hunt prey for the rest of the clan to feast on.

The leaders of the Blizzardkin clan are in charge of the commoners and outcasts.

The cave pavers are responsible for crafting things and finding new paths for the clan to grow and thrive. The commoners are more like helpers, helping the cave pavers and the hunters with whatever menial tasks they are given.

Fighting against these creatures wouldn't be easy because they have unique methods in which they fight. The hunters, the cave pavers, and the commoners are alike in terms of fighting but the source of their fighting style differ. The commoners fight erratically because they are well aware of their strength and always underestimate their capabilities so fear usually clouds their judgment making them unable to carefully plan their attacks.

The hunters and cave pavers lack the patience needed to carefully plan attacks and defense and are used to only attacking. This method only works on creatures weaker than the Blizzardkin clan.

Although these creatures have lived in the cold lands for a long time they didn't evolve enough to be able to thrive in the snowy environment. This has caused them to be driven further and further into caves.

Looking at these creatures you might even think that they are lifeless because their torso has a dark hollow and has no contents, but you couldn't be more wrong. These creatures have a core called the soul core. The soul core is a ball of the essence of life that lights these creatures contributing to their wakefulness.

Destroying the soul cores will cause the creatures to crumble on the floor never to float again.

There are only two locations of the soul cores depending on hierarchy. The king's soul core is located at a point between its thoracic cavity and its abdomen, while the rest have their soul cores located in their neck.

The soul cores in addition to being their sole source of life also demand one thing from them: A molten form of living creatures. So everything eaten by these creatures is absorbed by their soul cores.

You might think that you have enough information to destroy the king of the Blizzardkin clan but no you don't. The king isn't like the creatures of the other hierarchy. It is the strongest, fastest, and most cunning out of the creatures of the Blizzardkin clan. So fighting against it requires you to be faster and stronger than it and to bring all the nasty tricks you can ever think of.

You know what y'all? The most important things relevant to us now are the soul cores and their weak point.

Cutting them at the junction between their tapered end... You know that tail-like thing they have... So cutting them between their tapered end and the rest of their body renders them unable to phase out of being solid and it would cause them to be unable to float like they used to. The king occasionally hovers around the cave observing if any of the creatures were doing what they were supposed to do, but most of the times you find it in the heart of the cave which is the warmest part of the cave, next to where the source of the fire is... The source of the fire that heats up the pots in the kitchen. This quest Is indeed an impossible quest because the fire is so hot that only a few of the creatures can be near it and they include the king and a few hunters. I really don't think we could enter there."

Hassan and Sky listened without saying anything till I let them know that I was done with what I knew. The information I held back was not vital to helping Hassan clear his extra quest.

"Cold lands? Is this the cold lands?" Sky asked after a moment of silence which they had probably used to process the load of information that I dumped on them.

It was easier for me because the information found its way to my long-term memories, so it felt like I had known it for a long time. That was why I had thought of the cold lands earlier on; when I wasn't aware that a whole history textbook about a group of creatures was being downloaded into my brain.

"Yeah. I think so. I don't have any information about the Cold Lands"

"So, that's why the creatures died when I pierced through their necks with my sword"

" Yes"

"Why do they have a kitchen? Are they not animals?" Sky asked

"I can't even call them animals because apart from their tapered ends they have a body morphology similar to humans"

"Humans are animals," Hassan said
