Chapter 27 - TWENTY-SEVEN

Before the creatures could reach Sky and my unconscious body Snowstorm let go of the handles and lunged toward the body of the wooden cart.

Grabbing the terrified girl who screamed, protesting at it and the unconscious body it turned its back to the claws that swung behind it with each digging into the hollow in its thoracic cavity.

It growled in pain as dozens of other creatures gathered, with their claws trying to tear it apart as it shielded their targeted prey.

The battle commenced, with Snowstorm lunging out of reach of these creatures' claws. They didn't have anywhere to go because Snowstorm was surrounded by these creatures.

With its upper limbs wrapped around the two humans under its protection, it was as good as defenseless.

Surrounded by creatures that lunged at it, Snowstorm crouched a bit, hovered still, and closed its eyes.

With all hope lost it waited for its bones to be torn apart, but that didn't happen. Opening its eyes it saw the creatures that just plunged at it being torn apart by two hunters and one cave paver.

'What the heck?' I wondered from deep within Snowstorm's mind. The three creatures were acting unusually. They could see Hassan but chose to attack one of their own.

The three creatures hovered with eyes that gleamed with eerie dark essence as they face countless creatures smaller than them.

Two of the creatures looked like hunters and the other one looked like a cave paver but yet they were different.

They had dark essence flowing from their eyes instead of the usual white eyes the other creatures had. It was hard to discern if they had any eyeballs because of the dark essence flowing from their eyes.

The strange creatures surrounded Snowstorm as they fended off the creatures that attempted to have a go at Snowstorm. Their agility and resilience were several leagues above the creatures that attacked them.

It started to look as though the creatures were lunging toward their death as their heads were ripped from their bodies in a matter of seconds.

Whatever it was that made them defend Snowstorm and turn against the other creatures, I didn't care. I was just glad that we weren't attacked by the creatures.
