Chapter 9 - The Threat

With a wide grin on his face, Mike took off his clothes. The woman was going to be his today. He couldn't contain his excitement. He felt like his every step was in the clouds.

He threw the clothes away and dipped himself in the warm water. His eyes stared at the washroom with a smirk.

The red and golden color on the walls. The small diamonds that were reflecting the light as if there were stars on the ceiling.

A pool large enough for five people to take a bath together and such a large amount of warm water. The rare fragrant body wash and sprays and rose petals.

A large jar of milk and lavender on the side. Two premium bottles of wine are on the corner. Who would believe that this place was designed to take baths? Its size was bigger than the room he was assigned to live in as a knight.

That was the epitome of luxury. And all this belongs to him now. His grin grew wider to the limit that it looked devilish. His eyes could not help but stare at everything with awe.

"Yes, I am the marquees now," he mumbled softly with another chuckle.

His eyes were shining with joy. Meeting Lia was the best thing of his life. Lia! She was waiting for him in their bed!

"Ha!" He laughed and left the bathtub immediately. He dried himself hurriedly and clumsily as if he could not wait anymore and opened the closet to take out a bathrobe.

When he opened it, a parchment fell from it on the ground. He frowned! Parchment was an expensive thing yet they were wasting it like that.

He was going to ignore it when his eyes fell on the writing. It was bright red and written with fingers. Someone had used blood?

With widened eyes, he picked up the letter at once.

"Mike is cheating on me with you. He is after your wealth and property. If you do not believe me, can you check the tea leaves of your parents? He had mixed slow poison in it. If you want more proof, I will bring them soon. I have left many other letters in your room too in case you didn't get this one."

"???" he froze instantly.

The small letter was enough to make his face go ashen. He looked around at once and only took a breath of relief when he realized that he was alone.

But soon the fear turned into anger. Who did this? Who knew about his plans? But more than that, who would dare to blackmail him like this?

His mind started to swirl as the faces of every maid and his fellow knights started to flash past his eyes.

A commoner marrying a princess. Though many have been happy about it, many were jealous of him too. But none of them know about his plans. The dirty tricks he had used!

He gritted his teeth as he tore the paper into many pieces and threw them into the dustbin. But as he took a step away, he paused and looked back at the dustbin again. Afraid that someone might be interested in it and join the paper together.

He gritted his teeth and took out each part of the parchment. Then he burnt each part of it from a candle.

"Ouch!" his finger burnt since the pieces were too small.

"Ha! If you think that you can control me, you are going to regret it." He was going to keep an eye on every maid and find out who did this.

Then he would make sure to kill them at once. They have chosen the wrong person to mess with.

Once he was done with burning the paper, he cleaned the area afraid that she would take a bath next.

Relieved that he had taken the bath first and he was the first to receive the letter, he took a deep breath.

Once he was done with destroying the evidence, his face was full of sweat and his fingers were burnt.

When he walked out of the washroom, Lia was sitting on the bed. But his eyes widened when he noticed a bunch of letters in her hands.

Her eyes were cold and sharp and when she raised her head, he felt like his soul left his body.

Was that another letter? Why was she looking at him so coldly?

He gulped in fear as he tried to move but his legs did not support him.

"Llll.. lia.. what .. haaapppppennnnned?" the words came out with so much force as he could not help but stare at the letter with fear. His gaze was petrified.

"Hmm? I could not believe that I have received this letter." her cold voice made his breath flinch.

His face was so terrified as if he had seen a ghost.

He ran so fast and took the letter from here. When her cold gaze fell on him, he gulped.

"This is all a lie, Lia. how can you believe in it?' his voice rose and fell, "I... I can explain everything. You must not trust it." he pleaded as he held her hands and pleaded.

The letter fell on the ground at once when she looked at him and then at the fallen letter.

"Why should I not believe in it?" she frowned as she stood up.

Suddenly her tall figure towered over him and he took a step back with fear. His eyes widened and closed at once with a flinch.

"I.."

"I am sure that the invitation had nothing special that I could not believe.'' She bent and picked up the scented letter with floral designs on the corners. "Or you were not expecting that we would receive any invitation?"

"Huh?"
