Chereads / A Slow And Painful Death To My Husband / Chapter 10 - More Letters!

Chapter 10 - More Letters!

"Huh?" He stared at the letter again only to notice the insignia of Duke Clowford on it.

Their daughter-in-law Madeline and Camelia are good friends. It was only expected that she would invite Camelia to the tea party. What was he even thinking?

He snatched the letter from her hands and read it again as if there was still something left to check.

Her brows knitted as she stared at his lost self. A slow smirk formed on the corner of her lips but it vanished as fast as it appeared.

He closed his eyes and took a deep breath. His trembling body finally felt better.

"Is there a problem Mike?" he opened his eyes only to see her staring at him as if he was crazy.

He forced a smile on his face.

"Yes, I… I was just worried that you will be bullied again because of you… you married me instead of a noble." he gloated in his heart as he found the right words on time.

He looked at her with worry as if he was guilty of all the actions taken by her vassal families to stop the marriage.

He held her hands and rubbed them on his cheeks.

"I know you have suffered so much because of me, Lia. but I could do nothing in return." Pathetic! She was pathetic to think that he was genuinely worried about her.

To think that he was guilty of their love while the vassal families were greedy for power. She was so strong that she could easily handle their family's powers and take them to new heights. But they still wanted to use her as a tool to climb higher.

That was the reason that she had snatched their power and gifted it to Mike. to teach them a lesson that they could not stand against her.

Now that she thinks about it! She felt like she was a pathetic fool and their worries were real. She ruined her family with her own hands.

Noticing her darkening eyes, he smirked. He still knew how to press her nerves. There was no way that she did not trust him.

"Lia! I am sorry for everything." he bowed his head in shame when she gritted her teeth.

She rolled her eyes and stared at the roof of her room to find her patience to not strangle the man right there and then.

"It is alright." she patted him, not now, if he died this simple death, her efforts would be in vain.

"I have received so many letters. Would you like to read them with me?" she offered as she pointed at the bed. More than fifty letters were lying there making his eyes widen again.

"I.. that... You.." she stared at him stuttering with an amused look when he coughed. "You should take a bath first. You must be tired and sweaty after a long night." He gently pushed her toward the washroom, wrapping his fingers around her shoulders.

"I will sort out the letter by the names of families for you." he offered with a warm and kind smile when she chuckled and closed the door of the washroom.

His face darkened instantly and he ran towards the bed.

His hands moved on the letters as if they were cursed by the dark magic and his hands would burn if he touched them.

He checked each and every one of them twice. Though he had read the name of the family on the letter, his mind still did not feel comfortable until he opened every one of them and read the contents.

What if that person had told some other noble family and they informed Lia?

He could not make any mistake after coming this close.

Lia smirked. She had opened the door again at some point and stared at him. His hands were trembling with each new letter. His eyes were full of panic.

He did not even notice that she was smirking at him. Her eyes were filled with hatred and disdain. All he could see were letters. There were so many that it was impossible to read them so fast.

She shook her head and closed the door again. She took off her dress and sat on the first stair of the pool. Her maids were given leave so that they could help each other in bathing tonight and share some intimate time.

Who would have thought that all they would do is read the letter? She chuckled as she stood up and wore the bathrobe. Though he had cleaned it well, she noticed a small amount of ash near the candle and laughed.

She picked up the bottle of wine on the corner and filled two glasses. After that, she mixed something in one glass and held them with a sweet smile on her face.

When she opened the door again, she made sure to make enough noise to gain his attention. His head snapped back towards the door as if a deer caught in the light. He flinched at once.

"Darling, are you okay?" she smiled seductively, biting her lips, she sauntered into the room and stood before the bed.

Her small bathrobe only ended above her knees. With her wet hair falling randomly on her face and the warmth still making her face blush, she looked seductive. His heart skipped a beat at once and heat started to rise on his skin.

"You look nervous." she tilted her head and stared at him with a smile so seductive that he forgot about the threat for a second and threw the letter away.

Like a hungry wolf, he tried to pounce on her but she only laughed and took a step back. He kneeled on the ground to touch her feet when she placed it on his chest. His loose robe fell at his side and she pressed deeper.

His eyes filled with lust and laughed, enjoying her domination when she tilted the glass.

"Open your mouth, Mike."
