Chapter 5 - What's wrong?

Luna's Point of View

"I can't believe him, Bry! He even used me as an excuse to cover up his single status with that hypocrite!" I angrily stabbed my Zest-O with a straw.

"Maybe he was just desperate. He probably didn't want to be embarrassed. You should have just helped him. I could see the surprise and embarrassment on his face when you left," Bryan said while stirring his cup noodles.

I didn't see his reaction when I said that. I was focused on the girl he was talking to. Ugh! Her looks. It irks me so much. She looks like a slut.

Bryan is one of my closest friends in our circle with Zoe and Ice. He's my best friend, always there for me. Zoe and Ice are originally studying here, while Bryan enrolled with me and luckily, we have the same subjects and teachers.

"You're nosy too, huh?" I started to think about various things. What if he got offended by what I did? But I did the right thing, didn't I?

"Let it go. He's a grown man. He can handle himself," he said, taking a sip of soup.

"He looks so devastated. Before we left, I saw that girl slap him," he added.

"W-what? She slapped him? Do you know the reason? Why didn't I see that-"

Right. I went to the restroom earlier.

"I don't know what's going on. I'm sure he can handle it, he's a guy," he added.

I caught a glimpse of Sky with a girl at the far end of the canteen. The girl was laughing while Sky maintained a poker face.

The girl beside him was beautiful. Blonde with a striking appearance. My eyes widened when I saw the girl place Sky's hand on her chest.

I saw Sky suddenly push the girl away and leave the cafeteria.

Why do women treat him like that?

"That's Sky, right? Handsome, but has a terrible attitude. Such a show-off," I heard the girl behind me whisper.

"Talented, smart, and handsome, but his attitude is really bad. He used to be my classmate," she added.

I stood up from my seat and left. I said goodbye to Bryan, telling him I was going back to our classroom for another subject.

"Come with us to Ice's place. It's on your way anyway," Zoe said, linking arms with me.

"I always have a ride. Remember?" I raised an eyebrow in question. I just walked out ahead because they might insist on going to the mall before going home again.

I bumped into the girl who was talking to Sky earlier on the way. She just gave me a dirty look. So full of herself. The combination of her clothes was ugly. Blue and red. What's she trying to be, a flag?

I passed by Sky's classroom, but it was closed. I decided to go through the school garden. They said it was beautiful there. There's a silent sanctuary created by a student.

Wow. It's beautiful!

The garden isn't vast, but there are places for benches and hangouts. There are many beautiful plants. They're all well taken care of. They look so healthy and delightful!

As I looked around, I caught a familiar face looking up at the sky.

Sky.

I approached him. Why hasn't he gone home yet? It's getting dark. Maybe he's about to leave. Before I could speak, he looked at me. Why is he teary-eyed? Is he crying?

"S-Sky? What happened to you?" I asked with concern. He just bowed his head and sniffed.

"I'm just having a cold. Go home. I'll lock up the garden." He replied in a cold tone. Does he have the keys? Does he also have the school keys? HAHAHA.

I heard him lock the garden gate. What could he be thinking right now? He looks so sad. I mean, he wasn't smiling before, but his expression is different now. Should I go back and ask him? But what do I care? We're not close anyway.

*Gasp*

Maybe he won't teach me tomorrow. That's not possible. My mom said he needs to complete our sessions. It would be a waste if we paid him and he didn't show up often.

What if he's just not in the mood? Should I try to get close to him? Will he agree?

"You seem lost in thought." I almost jumped in surprise when I saw him walking beside me. Has he been there all this time?

"I-I wanted to eat," I said. Shit, Luna. What was that? I should have asked him to come with me. I'm sure I'll get closer to him.

"Let's go. I'll treat you to a bowl of rice porridge," he said.

He WHAAAAAAAAAAAAT?!

"T-THAT'S N-NICE! HAHA." Shit. I didn't expect that. He invited me for porridge, and he'll pay? How nice. This is so nice!

"I don't want to ride in your car, Luna. Let's just walk." He looked serious. I immediately nodded. I messaged Kuya Amboy, our family driver, not to pick me up today because I have somewhere to go. Sky and I walked silently along the bustling Gill Puyat street. There were so many people and children now.

I glanced at Sky, who still had a poker face. He hasn't spoken since earlier. He looked at me and raised an eyebrow.

"What?" I asked irritably. I just rolled my eyes and looked back at the path.

"Do I have something on my face?" he murmured. I just laughed and shook my head.

He ordered two porridge bowls with egg and chicken. I saw him put chili oil and lots of pepper in his porridge. Sky ate quickly. He finished before I even reached halfway through mine.

"You have something on your face." He wiped the corner of my lips with a tissue.

I.AM.SO.SHOOKENING.SHOOKTED.

"T-Thanks. By the way, who was that girl you were talking to earlier?" I asked while stirring the porridge I had been cooling down.

He glared at me. "None of your business."

"I'll take you to the terminal. Anything could happen to you," he said.

We finished eating. We stayed out late because of me. I couldn't finish the porridge because there was so much. Like earlier, he still wasn't talking to me. The guy was still wearing a poker face.

"I'll go first," he said, then walked towards the other jeepney terminal.

The jeepney he was riding left first. I was still in line, but people were moving quickly. I'm used to commuting anyway. When we go out on weekends with my mom, we always commute. She wants us to get used to things that other people do every day. We're not different; we just have a car. Mama wants me to learn to live independently, especially since I'm about to finish senior high school.

I arrived home around half-past 8:00. There was heavy traffic because of a broken-down vehicle near the underpass. I immediately lay on my bed after changing clothes. I was surprised when my phone suddenly vibrated.

A text from Sky?

"Thank you.

:)"

-From Sky, 8:23 PM

Thank you? For what? Why is he sending an SMS?

"For what?" I replied.

So many loads wasted? Tsk, tsk.

I almost dropped my phone when he called again. I didn't answer immediately because I accidentally pressed something in shock. He called again. Is he too lazy to explain through messages?

--On call--

"

H-hello? Do you have something to say?" I said. My question sounded so rude. Maybe he'll just end the call.

"About you coming with me to the porridge place earlier," he said on the other end of the line.

Damn! His voice sounds so good on the phone.

"T-that's nothing. Just you."

DAMN YOU, SIS! WHY JUST YOU? THAT SOUNDS CREEPY.

"Sorry about earlier," his voice became softer. It got deeper and more breathy.

His voice! So calm and soothing. It tickles my ears.

"Sorry about what?" I asked in confusion.

"About what I said, that you're my girlfriend," he replied shyly.

"It's nothing. I understand. Sorry if you were embarrassed earlier." It's true. He seemed embarrassed because of me earlier.

"Who was that girl, by the way?" I asked.

Please answer.

"Secret. I'll tell you tomorrow. Go to sleep. Goodnight," he said on the other end.

I hung up the phone quickly and couldn't even say goodnight because everything happened so fast.

My heart is pounding so hard now. It feels like my heart wants to burst out. Is this what they call "kilig"? No! I can't feel "kilig" for him. He's weird, rude, and good-looki-

"Erase! Erase!" I messed up my hair.

"Go to sleep. Goodnight."

Damn it, why did he say that so sweetly? AAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGHHHHHHHHHHH.

"OH MY GOD!" I blurted out as Sky called again.

I was about to answer, but it disappeared. I waited for him to call again, but it seemed like he accidentally pressed something.

Damn it, Sky! Your voice sounds so good on the call. I want to hear your goodnight over and over again.

I tried to text him "Goodnight," but I didn't know how. I kept deleting everything I typed.

"Goodnight. See you tomorrow. Tell me about it, okay!"

I sent it! He probably won't reply because who am I for him to reply, right?

"Sure. Sleep well." He replied.

After reading that message, I found myself blushing in front of the mirror. DAMN, SIS. THIS IS TOO MUCH!
