"Take her to the hospital and treat that bloody hand." Lucien's icy voice echoed in the room, not giving Jena's request any response.
Immediately she heard him, she tore her gaze from Kayla and fixed it on him.
Jena was about to speak up, she wanted to protest but when she saw the expression his face was wearing she thought twice and decided to stay quiet. Even though he was trying to hide it, she could still sense the anger coming from him and the last thing she wanted was for the agression to be transferred to her.
"Okay boss." choroused one of the guys there.
Diverting her gaze to the owner of the voice, she realised it was the guy from yesterday that gave her the files she had read. In other words, the mysterious driver stroke bodyguard from the parking lot the other night. She didn't take a look at him when he spoke to her the first time since she was still in shock of what had happened to her at that time.
As she stole one last glance at Kayla, a sense of unease washed over her. Kayla was the girl who had been giving her glares in the lobby yesterday. Though she wanted to talk to Kayla about her behaviour, Lucien's presence made her hesitate.
Their eyes locked once more and Kayla could read the 'we need to talk' expression etched on Jena's face. She chose to ignore it and rolled her eyes instead, which only seemed to fuel Jena's annoyance and equally her determination.
She still didn't shake. She knew she had to talk to Kayla, whether she wanted to or not. She had to. And if it meant begging Lucien till he finally agrees, so be it then.
. . . . .
"You know, you still owe me a proper introduction right?" Jena broke the silence that reigned between her and Triston.
It's been ten minutes already since they left the company and neither Triston nor Jena had said a word to each other. The most Triston did was steal a few glances at her through the front mirror, almost like he's checking if she was still there.
Jena found it really annoying and unsettling since she only had a minor injury on her palm and he was making it seem like her whole being is about to fall out.
A quick smirk curved up his lips, just as if he had been waiting for her to break the silence.
"You're right! I totally owe you a proper introduction. I'm Triston."
"Yeah I already know that."
"Well then, nice to meet you too Jena."
"Seriously!?" God! Jena sighed
"Well! I was just wondering if we've met before..?"
"Perharps in your dreams.." Triston winked at her as he teased her
"I'm serious Triston." Jena nagged annoyingly
"Mmm.. I dont think so"
"Really? No one's ever mentioned my name to you? at all?"
"Hmm, now you've got me curious Jena. Any hints?"
"No um.. are you by any chance... single?"
She heard him chuckle mischieviously, causing her to tilt her head forward a little bit to capture his expression.
"Smooth transition there Jena." he exclaimed, causing Jena to crease her brows, like what the hell? did he really think that..
"I have no ulterior motif Triston." Jena chipped in after seeing the mischievious expression he was wearing on his face.
"Who said you did?" His smirk grew even wider now. "Being asked about your relationship status these days is not something ordinary, don't you think?"
Jena's jaw clenched. Her mind couldn't bring up any reply to his question.
"Fine! You can forget I.."
"Yes!" he snapped. "Yes i'm single... Now, mind me asking why you asked?"
"Like I said before, you reminded me of someone. That's just it."
A sarcastic "if you say so" pierced through her ears. Her eyebrows furrowed as she heard the sarcastic remark but she refused to let it get to her. He wanted to piss her off right now, she knew it.. she could feel it. But Jena wasn't going to give him that satisfaction.
Instead, she leaned back and silently hoped that their journey would be over soon. Was it just her being impatient or was this journey taking hours already!
"Relax! No need to get all worked up. We'll get there soon" he said unexpectedly, almost as if he knew what she was thinking.
Jena's teeth clenched and her brows furrowed even more, now convinced that he was deliberately trying to annoy her. But seriously twenty fucking minutes!? That feels like forever to her.
"So annoying" she mumbled
"Don't think I didn't hear that." he whispered with a smile on his face.
His words jolted her. How did he manage to hear her? Did he perharps possess some sort of hearing ability? Now she really wished Lucien hadn't ordered him to take her to the hospital.
She reluctantly closed her eyes and pushed herself backwards to relax fully on the car seat. That was the only thing she could think of to reduce the tension she was feeling.
"Sleep well" he said sarcarstically after peeping at her through the front mirror.
Jena's brows creased as expected, but that was it. She didn't bother opening her eyes anymore or giving any response to him until they got back.
. . . . .
When they finally got back from the hospital, it was already afternoon. They didn't realise how much time they had wasted on the road until now. The hospital they went to was really far from the company because Lucien wanted to make sure she got the best treatment for her minor hand injury.
Jena couldn't help but blush when Triston told her about it. 'This man! He is so full of surprises' she thought to herself.
"You're going back home" His husky voice echoed in the room, sending shivers down her spine.
Talk about surprises!
"W.. Why sir?"
"I can't have you working here with a bandaged hand. It's for your safety."
His voice seemed devoid of emotion and his expression neutral but deep down, a part of her kept feeling a warm sensation. He is never gonna seize to amaze her.
"I.. I don't mind working with my hand like this sir. Bandaged or not, i'm pretty sure i'm fine." Jena managed to speak, aware that he wasn't going to change his mind on what he said but she still had to atleast try. "Who's gonna serve as your secretary when i'm gone?"
She had to ask. She really didn't want to go. Not at least until she talked to that Kayla or whatever they called her. Plus, she wanted more time with him here at the office, but no! that girl ruined everything for her.
And now, her first day experience is completely and officially ruined.
Things didn't go this way in her imagination... Not at all
