Chapter 6 - Speechless

"New secretary!?" Jena beamed with excitement. Her excitement soared high when she heard him, until her mind suddenly clicked... she already had a job somewhere and she cherished her colleagues and her boss, miss Becky. They were like her second family.

Although deep down, she knew that one day an opportunity like this would come knocking. She just didn't expect it to be today and certainly not from this man.

However, she couldn't let the chance of getting to see and work with Lucien every day just slip away like that. It had always been her dream to work in a company and eventually own one.

This was her one time shot at pursuing her aspiration and there was no way on this earth she was gonna turn it down for a job as a waitress, not like she hated it, she actually adored it but there was just no way.

It was quite a tough choice though. She couldn't even find the voice to say no to such a juicy offer.

"Yes.. Well my secretary just quit and I couldn't think of anyone else more fit for the position than a determined business major." Lucien replied with a mischievious smile on his face.

Jena hesitated for a moment, her gaze lowered as she quietly admitted, "I'm really excited about it sir, I mean, your acknowledgement means alot to me, really, but... I have zero experience in the secretary role." Her voice carried a hint of shyness.

"I figured you'd say that. Well, sometimes it's all about having the right attitude, determination and eagerness to learn, not just experience. And that is undeniably the reason why you are seated here right now. So don't sweat it, i've already got that covered."

Lucien's words were straightforward, yet they had an unexpected effect on her. She found herself blushing, even though there clearly seemed to be no emotions involved.

"Thank you sir but you already know I have a job right? and it's gonna be pretty tough for me con.."

He cut her off. "Seems like you failed to mention that to me a week ago when you told me about how much you'd love to work in a company."

Jena felt speechless. Her heart felt like it was on the verge of melting. The thought that he might have been thinking about her just like she was about him made her heart melt even more.

However, she couldn't sense any emotions or whatsoever coming from his side.

His words seemed plain and straightforward and so did his voice, but Jena didn't want to let that dampen her mood. She decided to trust her gut feeling because in the end, it was all she had.

"So is it a yes or a no?" He asked, looking deep into her kind and innocent hazel eyes. His eyes were intense, like he was trying to give her an insight of what working with him everyday was gonna be like, like he was trying to intimidate her or something or even trick her into saying no, but Jena remained unfazed. Yes she wanted this and she wasn't willing to let anything get in the way.

She knew right from the moment they met that Lucien wasn't an easy person to deal with, he seemed rather sly. But she still found him amazing, infact, that was what she admired the most about him... his sly nature.

Her gaze on him straightened and with an extra confident smile, she responded. "How's tomorrow?"

Lucien's gaze bore into her with an even more intense stare, captivated by her response. She didn't know for sure but she felt like he was giving her a chance for a second option. Jena found it sincerely odd since he was the one who approached her with the proposal.

Just as she was about to fill the awkward silence, he muttered "Perfect" with a sly grin on his face. His deep blue eyes returned to their normal state, as if the intense moment in them had never occured, not even for a split one second. This intrigued Jena and only heightened her amusement.

Jena, intrigued by Lucien's reaction couldn't help but play along. She smirked and replied, "Well, aren't you full of surprises sir! I guess i'm in for an interesting ride then."

Lucien, still wearing his enigmatic smile leaned in closer to Jena. "Oh you have no idea rainbow." He whispered. His voice tinged with a hint of danger. "Get ready for an experience you've never had before."

Her eyes sparkled with curiosity and excitement. "I'm all in sir.. Can't wait." She replied. Her voice filled with anticipation.

"9 am sharp." Lucien declared as he got up from his seat. "Go wait in the lobby.. I'll have some files sent over"

"Okay sir" Jena agreed and left to the lobby as she was instructed.

While waiting at the lobby, she noticed a lady giving her intense glares from one side of the room. Her glares carried that 'if looks could kill' phrase, leaving Jena in complete shock.

Although she felt the urge to approach the lady and ask her what the problem was, she quickly dismissed the thought. Right now, she wanted less of anything or anyone that would probably ruin her mood so she chose to turn a blind eye to who ever she was and her intense glares. Deep down though, she did have a slight curiosity about the girl's intentions. It was pretty weird to her how she had made an enemy to someone she didn't even know.

The glares kept intensifying and Jena found it difficult to control herself from stealing quick glances at her. It was getting too much for her to bear now. Taking a deep breath, she got up from her seat, but just as she was about to approach the girl, someone suddenly appeared out of nowhere and blocked her view.

Talk about terrible timing!

This really good looking guy approached her with some files in his hand. Her eyes widened the instant she looked at his face.

"Hey, I know you!"

"The incredibly handsome guy from the parking lot last night? Hell yeah you do. And i'm pretty sure I know you too" he replied with a playful smile.

Jena scoffed. "I see you're not just his driver bu.."

"Oh no I think you're mistaken here Jena. See, I am not boss Lucien's driver"

"Then what? Bodyguard?"

"Neither.. But I guess I can relate to both"

"Okay so what are you doing here?" Jena asked. Her eyes quickly caught the files in his hands. "Are those for me?"

"Yes. Well boss Lucien asked me to hand them over to you"

"Um thank you." She carefully collected them. "Do I still need to see him or should I just go ahead?"

"No need to see him again today. Everything will be sorted out tomorrow" his tone had a hint of playfulness in it but Jena could tell that his words were for it. His tone had been that way since the start of their conversation. He seemed to have a great sense of humour. That was the first thing she noticed about him and Jena liked that about him.

"Looking forward to working with you Jena. Oh and have fun reading those." He added and with a mischievious grin on his face, he left.

"Looking forward to working with you too." She replied, fully aware that she was talking to nobody but herself.
