Karito Pov

It has been quite some time since I last saw David, perhaps a few months have passed? In that time, I have become the leader of Maine's group, alongside David, may he rest in peace. While I occasionally embark on solo operations, as my companions tend to slow me down, I credit my adaptability skills for allowing me to excel in these missions.

Regrettably, my system has been completely busted since I arrived in this world, leaving me with access to only a meager 25% of the gaming system's capabilities. Nonetheless, I have become substantially stronger since my clash with Anti-Venom a few months ago. I cannot say precisely how strong I have become, for my points seem to distribute themselves automatically as if the system has memorized my properties and adjusted accordingly.

Mentally, I am holding up reasonably well. David and I keep each other company, but he has since decided to venture down his path and move out. I followed suit, as our protracted stay in our previous lodging had become untenable. Our requests have brought in a substantial amount of money, which we have used to upgrade our lives significantly. My battles with the darks have resulted in them losing my trail, despite my continuous attacks on their bases throughout the city.

What surprised me the most about David was his transformation. He had grown taller and more muscular, with an abundance of cybernetic implants that slightly concern me. Nonetheless, I have Toxin on standby in case of emergencies. Speaking of which, Toxin has recovered, although he constantly pesters me about obtaining the "New Suit." The suit would provide him with immunity to all the weaknesses of a symbiote, a particularly convenient feature. Moreover, the suit's ability to assimilate any new material that it absorbs makes it an incredibly valuable asset. With it, I could survive an impact from a crashing moon. However, I hope I did not jinx myself by expressing this thought. My luck tends to be quite terrible, and I can only hope it doesn't worsen.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

As the sound of gunshots pierced the stillness of the night, my peace was shattered. Frustration gripped me, for I was unable to indulge in one of my favorite pastimes - playing video games. I had only just begun to explore the new Lightfall DLC from Destiny, and now I was being forced to interrupt my rhythm.

But there was no time for self-pity. It was clear that some individuals were about to meet their demise, and I was in a position to intervene. As I surveyed my options, I turned to my trusty companion, Toxin.

(Karito) "Which style should I rock for tonight?" I inquired, seeking his input. "Any recommendations?"

(Toxin) "How about Noir?"

The idea that we should become the Batman of the Spider-Verse for a single night was undoubtedly an inspired one. With that decision made, I could feel Toxin enveloping me, absorbing my original symbiote suit. It was time to seize the opportunity.

Toxin then began to transform, altering the color and appearance of my suit to suit the mission at hand. I nodded in satisfaction, satisfied with the results. The time had come to act.

Without hesitation, I leaped off my balcony and descended upon the chaos unfolding in the middle of the night. With my weapon drawn, I took aim at those responsible and prepared to engage them in combat.

(Spider-Man) "Not during lunch, fellas. Not in the rain. Not in my neighborhood!" Bang!

As I swung through the city, my senses attuned to the unfolding drama, my attention was drawn to a fleet of police cars in pursuit of a battered vehicle. The evidence of the violence inflicted upon it was clear, with bullet holes pocking its surface like pockmarks on a scarred face.

I continued to soar through the night air, moving with fluid grace as I closed in on the chase. And then, with a sudden burst of speed, I propelled myself laterally towards the car, catching up to it with ease. With a precise maneuver, I landed deftly on the roof, my legs absorbing the impact with ease.

(Spider-Man) "Hello there, I want to talk about your car's severely extended warranty!"

(Thug 1#) "OH SHIT! IT'S SPIDER-MAN!"

(Thug 2#) "I told you it was a bad idea to do this..."

(Thug 1#) "SHUT UP MICHEAL!"

(Spider-Man) "YEAH, MICHEAL, SHUT UP!"

(Thug 2#) "WHY IS EVERYONE SCREAMING AT ME?!"

(Spider-Man) "I DON'T KNOW!"

As the thugs' car barreled down the road, I knew I had to act fast. I clenched my fists, summoning a bit of strength I had as I delivered a powerful punch to the windshield. The shards of crystal rained down, effectively blinding the goons and giving me the upper hand.

With the window shattered, I took advantage of their confusion and let loose my webbing, further disorienting and immobilizing them. But just as I was about to force the car to a stop, I noticed a family crossing the road up ahead.

My mind raced as I calculated the potential danger, and I realized that my previous tactics were too risky. I needed to find another way to neutralize the situation. Drawing on my enhanced spider-like abilities, I lunged towards the vehicle, grabbing hold of the left wheel with my bare hands.

I could feel the power coursing through me as I channeled the energy of the symbiote within me. Focused and determined, I channeled that energy into the tire, causing it to burst with a resounding pop.

The car careened out of control, skidding towards a row of fragile light posts. At that moment, I sprang into action, executing a perfect landing on my feet just in time to dodge the impending disaster.

As the dust settled and the goons lay defeated, I knew that my mission had been accomplished. The family was safe, and the streets were secure once again.

As the last of the lowlifes slumped to the ground, I couldn't help but let out a sigh of relief. Another successful mission, another step towards a safer city. But as the adrenaline slowly wore off, my thoughts turned to more mundane matters.

What to have for dinner? A sweet treat sounded like just the thing to reward myself for a job well done. With a quick leap, I soared into the air and swung towards my penthouse, reveling in the freedom of flight.

As I approached my building, I deftly stuck to the wall of a nearby luxury high-rise, my body moving with the grace and precision of a natural-born acrobat. With a final push, I landed effortlessly on my balcony, ready to retire for the night.

With a quick mental command, the Toxin symbiote receded into my body, leaving behind my original red Spider-Man suit. I strode towards the fridge, a slight smirk playing at the corners of my mouth.

I scanned the contents, weighing my options carefully. Perhaps a rich, velvety chocolate cake, or a batch of freshly baked cookies? My mind buzzed with possibilities as I reached for the ingredients, ready to indulge in a sweet reward for a job well done.

As I scanned through my collection of recipes, my eyes lit up as I came across the recipe for Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie from Chili's. My mouth watered at the thought of indulging in the warm, gooey cookie, and I quickly gathered the necessary ingredients.

I began by preheating my oven to 350°F, and adjusting the rack to the middle position. I then gathered all of the ingredients I would need, carefully measuring out each one and setting them aside in individual bowls.

To make the cookie dough, I started by combining 1/2 cup of unsalted butter, 1/2 cup of granulated sugar, and 1/4 cup of brown sugar in a large mixing bowl. Using a hand mixer, I creamed the ingredients together until they were light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.

Next, I added 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract and 1 large egg, continuing to mix until the ingredients were well combined. In a separate bowl, I whisked together 1 1/2 cups of all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda, and 1/4 teaspoon of salt.

With the mixer on low speed, I gradually added the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough just came together. Finally, I folded in 1 cup of semisweet chocolate chips, taking care to distribute them evenly throughout the dough.

To prepare the skillet, I melted 2 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a 10-inch cast iron skillet over medium heat. Once the butter had melted and begun to bubble, I removed the skillet from the heat and carefully spooned the cookie dough into it, smoothing the surface with a spatula.

I placed the skillet in the preheated oven and set the timer for 18-20 minutes, depending on how gooey I wanted the cookie to be. While the cookie baked, I cleaned up the kitchen and whipped up some fresh whipped cream.

When the timer went off, I pulled the skillet out of the oven and sprinkled a pinch of sea salt over the top of the cookie. I allowed the cookie to cool for a few minutes, then scooped it out into individual portions and topped each one with a dollop of whipped cream.

As I took my first bite of the warm, gooey, and utterly decadent, I couldn't help but let out a contented sigh. It was the perfect ending to a delicious meal.

As I indulged in the rich, chocolatey goodness of my dessert, my senses were interrupted by a notification on my holographic display. I glanced over and saw the name "David" blinking on the side of my view. My curiosity piqued, I tapped the answer button and David's face materialized in front of me.

(Karito) "What's up?" I asked, taking another bite of the cookie.

(David) "Hey, big bro! Everything's been going just fine. I heard you took down a couple of thugs a few minutes ago."

(Karito) "News travels way too fast here."

(David) Chuckles "Indeed. By the way."

(Karito) "Mhm?"

(David) "You wanna do a request? For old times' sake?"

(Karito) "Is it another raid?"

(David) "Yeah. Getting rid of an entire gang."

(Karito) "Sure, I'm down. When?"

(David) "Tomorrow."

(Karito) "Anyone else gonna acompany us?"

(David) "Rebecca and a new kid."

(Karito) "New kid? I have a bad feeling about his outcome."

(David) "Just another day on the job, y'know?"

(Karito) "Meh, everyhting will be fine. See you tomorrow?"

(David) "See you tomorrow, love you brother, sleep tight."

(Karito) "Love you too, little man."

As I hung up the call with David. And started to take care of some personal hygiene.

I strode towards the bathroom, my thoughts still churning with ideas. As I brushed my teeth and splashed water on my face, I couldn't help but feel a surge of excitement at the thought of another battle alongside my little brother, I wonder how good he's gotten after practicing so much.

Once I was done with my ablutions, I changed into my comfortable pajamas and collapsed onto my bed. The soft mattress and plush pillows were a welcome respite from the rigors of crime fighting.

As I closed my eyes and drifted off to sleep, I knew that tomorrow was going to be another grueling day. But I also knew that with my skills and determination, it was going to be an easy task.

...

I opened my eyes, my consciousness slowly returning from a state of slumber. The warm rays of the sun had crept through my drawn curtains, filling my room with a soft amber glow. I rose from my bed, stretching my limbs, feeling the tension dissipate as I worked out the kinks in my muscles. After tending to my morning routine of brushing my teeth and washing my face, I felt refreshed and ready to tackle the day.

My stomach grumbled, reminding me that it was time to fuel up. I whipped up some French toast, drizzling them with a generous amount of maple syrup. The aroma of the sweet and savory dish wafted through the air, making my mouth water. I dug into the scrumptious breakfast, savoring every bite.

As I finished up, I glanced at the time and saw that David would be arriving any moment now. True to my expectations, his holographic ID appeared in the corner of my vision, signaling his imminent arrival. I strode over to the balcony, and as if on cue, the red substance of Toxin surrounded me, forming my iconic Red Symbiotic Spider-Man suit. I flexed my fingers, feeling the symbiote respond to my every movement, eagerly awaiting the challenges that lay ahead.

(Karito) On Call "Yo what's up bro?"

(David) On Call "Where in front of your building."

(Karito) "Alright, dropping down."

(David) "Wait, dropping?"

No Pov

David let out a small sigh at his brother's comment, fully understanding the implication of the phrase "dropping down." He glanced upwards, his eyes searching for any sign of the impending arrival. Just as he suspected, a rookie poked his head out of the car, confusion etched on his face as to why they were waiting in front of such a grandiose building. His query was answered with a resounding crash as Spider-Man descended upon them, his landing causing the ground to tremble beneath them.

The rookie stumbled back, his eyes wide with shock as the full impact of the superhero's arrival hit him. Spider-Man, for his part, stood tall and imposing, his Red Symbiotic suit accentuating his already formidable presence. David couldn't help but admire the sheer power and grace exuded by his brother and ally.

(???) "HOLY SHIT, IT'S SPIDER-MAN!" Fangirl

(David) "Sup, brother." Raises his hand for a fist bump

(Spider-Man) "Sup Triple-H." Fist bump

(David) "You still call me that? I told you it's annoying."

(Spider-Man) "And I told you that I don't care. Now, let's go sweet cheeks." Gets in the car

(David) Sighs and gets in

As Spider-Man made his way into the back seat of the car, he was suddenly tackled by a small figure - Rebecca, one of his most loyal and devoted friends. Caught off-guard, he found himself pinned to the seat by the small girl's enthusiastic embrace. Her boundless energy and love for the web-slinging hero never failed to bring a smile to his face.

(Spider-Man) "Well, hello there, Snuggles. Did you grow a few inches since I saw you last?"

(Rebecca) Pouts but giggles, snuggling even closer. "Karito! I've missed you!"

(Spider-Man) "I've missed you too, Rebecca." He gave her a gentle pet on the head

(Rebecca) "I was so glad that David invited you with us! This is going to be a cakewalk with you here," She exclaimed.

(Spider-Man) He grinned, "A cakewalk, huh? You're not underestimating the bad guys, are you?"

(Rebecca) She shook her head, "No way! But with you here, we've got this!"

(Spider-Man) He chuckled, "I'm sure you guys can do just fine without me. I'm just tagging along for the ride. But hey, if you need a superhero to help carry the snacks, I'm your guy."

(Rebecca) She laughed, "Ha! You're hilarious, Karito."

(Spider-Man) "I try," He replied with a smile.

(Rebecca) "Hell yeah! You're gonna be so impressed!" She exclaimed.

(Spider-Man) "Oh, I know I will." Chuckles.

The sleek car glided smoothly through the bustling city streets, carrying its passengers to their mission's destination. Falcon's skilled driving skills impressed the group as they settled into their seats, with Spider-Man sitting next to Rebecca and Julio in the front seat.

Julio couldn't contain his excitement as he chattered away to Spider-Man, his words flowing out in a torrent of enthusiasm. Rebecca also interjected from time to time, hoping to catch Spider-Man's attention. The web-slinger knew that Rebecca had developed a crush on him, and he did his best to humor her without leading her on. He couldn't help but admire her tenacity, though, as she tried to entertain him with her witty banter.

However, the conversation eventually ran its course, and a comfortable silence settled over the car. Spider-Man watched as the city passed by outside, his senses alert for any signs of trouble. The minutes ticked by, and Julio's nervousness became increasingly apparent as he fidgeted in his seat.

Rebecca, never one to tolerate silence for long, started another conversation, trying to keep everyone's spirits up.

(Rebecca) "Nanoants in your pants, Julio?" Giggles

(Julio) "No way!" Anxious

(Rebecca) "Wakako's bitch, right? Newby-boobs she stuck us with. It was adorable seeing how you fangirl between Karito and David."

(Julio) "Yee Yee! But what do you mean "stuck with us?"

(Rebecca) "It's not surprising when Karito has fans, but wow, heard that, David? You actually have fans now. Probably because you got all swole. Now you and your brother have Greek God physique!"

(Spider-Man) "You flatter me, Rebecca." Chuckles

(David) Serious "Got Iron?" Looks at Julio

(Julio) "Huh?"

(David) "Carrying, right?"

(Julio) Shows off his gun "Yeah, I've got a Lexington."

Spider-Man looks at the gun with an unamused face. He recognized it, it was The Lexington Pistol, a fully automatic 9mm handgun, that was designed during the 2030s to serve as a last resort in confrontational situations for law enforcement officials. It boasts a twenty-one-round magazine and is the official sidearm of both the NCPD and the SoCal Border Police, two of the most prominent law enforcement agencies in Night City.

What sets the Lexington apart from other firearms is its focus on minimizing harm. As a "less than lethal" option, it's designed to incapacitate rather than kill its target. This makes it an invaluable tool for officers who find themselves in dangerous situations, where the use of lethal force is not ideal.

Militech, a leading firearms manufacturer, partnered with Tao Industries to create a custom-weighted muzzle that reduces recoil, making it easier for officers to maintain their aim. Additionally, the Lexington features a few moving parts, which makes it more reliable and durable, even in the harshest conditions. It's these characteristics that have made the Lexington Pistol a staple in the protection of oneself and others in Night City.

(Spider-Man) "To be honest, that won't do shit."

(Julio) Gasp in shock

(David) "Peashooter like that won't even dent Maelstrom metal." Gives his a shotgun "Try this one out."

(Julio) "Seriously, choom?! A Satara?! Fuck me. Nova!"

(Spider-Man) Facepalm "Don't take it out of context... Don't take it out of context... Don't take it out of context..."

(Rebecca) Giggles

The Satara shotgun is a formidable weapon that packs a punch. A modified version of the DB-4 Igla, the Satara is equipped with an electromagnetic barrel that allows for charged shots, making it ideal for penetrating objects and walls. With a two-barrel design, the Satara can hold up to two shells, with each shell containing an impressive 14 pellets.

One of the Satara's most notable features is its charging mechanism. By holding down the trigger, the shotgun can charge up its shots to deliver an even more devastating impact. However, it's important to use the charging mechanism carefully, as it can drain the battery and render the weapon useless until it's recharged.

The Satara shotgun is a popular choice among those who need to breach doors or walls quickly and efficiently. However, due to its weight and size, it's not the most practical weapon for extended periods of use. Additionally, its charging mechanism requires precise timing and accuracy to use effectively, so it's not a weapon for the faint of heart.

(Julio) Cocks gun "Tech shotties, man. Preem as hell."

(Rebecca) Clings toward Spider-Man and rests for a bit

(Julio) Continues being loud "Charged-up shots." Shotgun starts charging me "Oh yeah. Boom!" Continues to mumble Boom

(Rebecca) Disgruntled sigh

(Julio) "Boom!"

(Rebecca) Grunting

(Julio) "Boom!"

As tensions mounted within the cramped confines of the vehicle, Rebecca's patience wore thin with Julio's incessant bickering. Without warning, she lashed out with a series of swift kicks to his midsection, her voice rising in anger with each blow. Her frustration was palpable, and the air around them crackled with tense energy as she continued to vent her frustrations upon the hapless rookie.

(Rebecca) "KNOCK IT OFF!"

(Julio) "WAIT! WATCH MY KNEES!" Gets kicked "WEAK KNEES!" Grunts

(Rebecca) "WHAT ARE YOU, FIVE?"

(Spider-Man) Chuckles "Women..." Sips a tea that appeared from his hand seemingly out of thin air

(David) "Guys, remember to stay behind me and Karito. And be smart. Don't rush."

(Spider-Man) "I can solo this but I'll give you guys a bit of spotlight."

(David) "Just leave us some goons, alright?"

(Spider-Man) "Noted."

(Julio) Shaking "What? You mean you want me to take rear? Hey, I ain't no newb, man."

(Spider-Man) "Mhm, sure."

(Rebecca) Sighs

As the group's simmering tensions threatened to boil over, Falcon's voice cut through the tense silence, breaking the spell. From the driver's seat, he announced their arrival close to the location.

(Falco) "Attention, ladies. We're 'bout a minute out now."

One minute later

The sleek car came to a halt in front of a decrepit hotel, its facade pockmarked with weathered patches of peeling paint. As the engine fell silent, the squad alighted and moved with swift purpose toward their objective. Meanwhile, Kiwi kept a watchful eye from inside the car, her nimble fingers tapping away at the interface of her tablet to access the building's internal surveillance cameras.

(Kiwi) From coms "Got a small army on our hands. Heaps of iron and turrets. Multiples can't ping them all for quick hacks. Not enough time. The front door's a dead zone, that's crystal. So plan B. Find the back door, definitely."

(David) "Easy-peasy. Plan C's my pick."

(Rebecca) "Ah-greed. We got Karito here."

(Julio) "Honestly I'm kind of not worried because he's here."

(Rebecca) "And when the Martinez brothers are together, anything is possible."

(Julio) "I can totally see why those two have such a reputation."

(Falco) Mumbles beside Kiwi "Front door assault, looks like to me."

(Kiwi) Off coms "You think?! They all get cocky when Karito and David are around, I should've known." Grunts

(Falco) "Well, what do you expect? He's a superhuman and his brother who's at the peak of human physicality."

(Kiwi) Sighs

As the trio pushed forward, Spider-Man deftly employed his hacking expertise to disable the menacing turrets guarding their path. Meanwhile, Rebecca, Julio, and David strode confidently into the fray, their unwavering determination on full display in the face of the overwhelming odds before them. The assembled goons sneered and jeered, their derisive laughter echoing through the air as they sized up their adversaries.

(Goon Lady) "Hey, who ordered lunch meat?"

(Goon) "You wittle babies lost?" Laugh

(Goon Lady) Approaches David "Think they're here to start somethin'?" Scoffs "You blood bags wanna get popped? EEHH?" She points her gun at David's head "Better start talking now, scumbag before I drill you a fresh eyehole!!"

(David) Gun cocks and aims at her face "You better stop before I do the same."

As the trio found themselves surrounded by a sea of menacing gangsters, the air grew thick with tension and the scent of gunpowder. All eyes were fixed on David, who stood with his firearm trained unwaveringly on one of the crew members of their adversary, mere inches separating them. The sound of breathing grew heavy, as each party held their breath in anticipation of the inevitable eruption of violence.

(Rebecca) Aims at the dozens at the back of the room with her rifle "Yeehaw!"

As the tense standoff threatened to erupt into a hail of bullets, the trio suddenly heard the unmistakable sound of footsteps approaching from behind. Turning slowly to face their unexpected visitor, David, Rebecca, and Julio broke into smirks of satisfaction at the sight of the imposing figure striding confidently toward them. His very presence seemed to radiate an oppressive aura, and the gangsters before him quivered in fear at the mere sight of the spider symbol emblazoned across his chest. This was a man who inspired terror in the darkest corners of Night City's criminal underworld, and the assembled thugs could feel the icy grip of fear tightening around their hearts as he drew ever closer.

(Goon) Voice breaks "O-Oh my god... i-it's-!"

(Spider-Man) "Yeah, I'm Batman." He snapped his fingers and made all of the gangster present in the room short-circuit.

(Rebecca) "Fuck he's so cool..."

The air crackled with the sound of malfunctioning cybernetics, as the gangsters writhed in agony, their once-powerful augmentations failing them at the most crucial moment. Seizing the opportunity to strike, the squad sprang into action with deadly efficiency. David's hand flashed out in a blur, and in an instant, the head of the nearest goon exploded in a shower of gore. At the same time, Rebecca launched herself at the rear of the room with a maniacal grin, her machine guns as she carved through flesh and bone alike. The room was awash with blood, as the screams of the dying mingled with Rebecca's twisted laughter. Meanwhile, Spider-Man leaned casually against the wall, calmly munching on a bag of popcorn as he watched his companions unleash hell upon their foes. The remaining gangsters, shaken but not defeated, rallied to mount a counterattack. However, their efforts were in vain against the sheer destructive power of David's arm cannon, which unleashed a barrage of explosive fire that tore through their ranks like a hot knife through butter. Screams of pain and terror filled the air, as bodies flew through the air like rag dolls. In the midst of the carnage, Spider-Man cast a pitying glance at Julio, who lay cowering on the floor like a craven coward. But even he knew that there was no need to worry. With Rebecca and David on their side, victory was assured.

(Rebecca) "COME ON! COME ON! COME ON! AHAHAHA!" Noticed that her machine guns ran out of bullets and threw them away "Loads run dry!"

(Goon) Continues firing "That little bitch ran out of juice!"

(Rookie Goon) "Fuck her up!"

(Rebecca) "And now, here comes the big guns!" Way too enthusiastic and pulls out two shotguns

(Spider-Man) Thoughts "Damn, Harley Quinn would make good friends with Rebecca." Buys 5-Gum from the store "I wonder why it was kind of expensive." Chews 5-gum "...Oh fuck..."

With lightning speed, Rebecca raised her dual shotguns and fired, unleashing a hail of bullets that tore through the gangsters' meager cover like it was tissue paper. Heads exploded in a shower of gore, their brains and blood spattering the ground in a grotesque display of violence. As the remaining goons scrambled for cover, Julio's eyes flicked up to the second floor of the building, where a deadly turret had just come online, its deadly aim trained on the hapless trio. Before he could warn his companions, however, Spider-Man appeared at his side in a blur of motion, his hand transforming into a razor-sharp blade that sliced through the turret as easily as a hot knife through butter. But something was off about the web-slinger. As he emerged from behind the smoldering wreckage of the destroyed turret, he was practically vibrating with energy, his movements almost too quick to follow. It was as if he was possessed by some kind of supernatural force, and the trio watched in stunned amazement as he sprang into action, his lithe form a blur of impossible acrobatics and lightning-fast strikes.

(Spider-Man) "TRRRRRRRRRR!!!!"

(David) "...What the fuck is up with Karito?"

(Rebecca) "...He looks high as fuck."

(Julio) "...Why is he vibrating?"

As if he had suddenly been beamed into the room, Spider-Man moved with an almost supernatural speed, his punches and kicks landing with the force of a sledgehammer. He seemed to have no awareness of his own strength, his adrenaline-fueled rampage leaving a trail of destruction in his wake. With a single punch, he sent one hapless gangster hurtling across the room, his body slamming into a wall with bone-crunching force. The shockwave from the impact was enough to blow the head clean off the villain standing behind him, leaving the rest of the gangsters cowering in terror. Spider-Man tried to throw the corpse of the first victim in his hand, but instead, he launched it with such incredible force that his arm just slid right through the man's torso, cleaving him in half like a hot knife through butter. As the hero continued his frenzied assault, the air crackled with electricity, the ground shaking beneath him as he leaped from wall to ceiling like a deranged spring ball. He smashed and stomped on the heads and torsos of the remaining goons, his sheer power leaving the building trembling in his wake. With a final, explosive Venom blast, half of the building was destroyed, leaving David, Rebecca, and Julio in total shock at the unbelievable spectacle they had just witnessed. Spider-Man, too, seemed to be in a state of shock, his eyes wide and disbelieving as he looked at his team, clearly unsure of what he had just done.

(Spider-Man) "...So that's how it feels to chew 5-gum..."

(Toxin) "...Holy fuck, that was the cheapest one from the meme shop..."

(Spider-Man) "Please tell me there was more of that..." Looks at the gamer store "FUCK! IT'S ON COOLDOWN! AND WHY DOESN'T IT HAVE A COUNTDOWN?!"

(David) Approaches Spider-Man "Uhhh, bro? You good?"

(Spider-Man) "I feel like I had 50 adrenaline shots."

(David) "Oookaayyy." Continues walking

(Rebecca) Laughs at Spider-Man's state

As the squad ascended the stairs, they methodically eliminated any surviving gang members in their way. Spider-Man's eyes had previously bulged with excitement, but he was gradually calming down thanks to the symbiote Toxin's ability to absorb his adrenaline rush. When they reached the third floor of the dilapidated hotel, a massive figure with bulging muscles and a plethora of cybernetic enhancements appeared before them, exuding an air of confidence and arrogance.

(Big Goon) "Tiny birds. Aren't you scared?"

(Spider-Man) "Scared?" He replied a hint of amusement in his voice. "I've fought alien invasions, thwarted world-ending catastrophes, and taken on gods. I don't think a bloated bag of bolts like you is going to make me quiver in my boots. In fact, I'm not even sure how you fit through the door with all those cybernetic appendages weighing you down."

(Rebecca) "AH Suck it, bitch!" Turns to Spider-Man "Wait, for real?"

(Julio) "Yo! The fuck. Is that human?"

Before Julio could shoot, David stopped him wanting to take the big man by himself. David stepped forward to face the colossal man, the tension thick in the air as they locked eyes. The goon exuded a daunting presence, his bulging muscles and metallic enhancements but it didn't deter David. Instead, he stood his ground, shedding his EMT jacket to reveal his chiseled physique. The two charged at each other with a ferocity that shook the crumbling hotel. David's Sandevistan allowed him to move at lightning speed, but the behemoth was no slouch either. In a split second, David delivered a powerful uppercut, but the goon was ready and saw it coming. With a massive hammer in hand, he swung it down with enough force to pulverize a car. David's quick reflexes saved him from certain death. He leaped high into the air, his cybernetic legs propelling him with ease. The hammer shattered the ground, sending chunks of concrete flying. As he landed, David saw an opening and seized the opportunity. With a graceful front flip, he soared over the goon and took aim with his cannon arm. The man turned in disbelief as he witnessed David's breathtaking agility. With a thunderous boom, the cannon fired, blowing the goon's head to bits and leaving him lifeless on the ground.

(Julio) Cheers "Nova! Zoot-zoot-zoot, bang!"

(Spider-Man) "Nice one, David. You noticed that the enemy kept up with you for a second there."

(David) "It did take me by surprise but it was thanks to your training that I'm this strong now."

(Spider-Man) "Awwww, look at you~. Such a charmer." Hugs David

(David) "H-HEY! CUT IT OUT!" Tries to push Spider-Man away but to no avail

(Rebecca) "It's always a fun time with you two here. By the way, those your new leg implants? Looking damn good."

(Julio) Silly sounds

(Kiwi) On coms "No more. All clear. Last one. Room behind you. Traget's there. Her, others too. All friendlies."

(David) Taps his com "Roger, roger."

(Spider-Man) On coms "Thanks, Kiwi."

(Kiwi) On coms "See? This is why I love Karito. He's grateful, unlike some crazy people I know."

(Julio) Runs ahead of them "Yo! Backroom. On it."

(Spider-Man) "Hey, Julio! WATCH YO JET!"

Julio's body had been booby-trapped, leaving him shattered and lifeless across the hall. David, Rebecca, and Spider-Man stood frozen in shock at the gruesome sight before them. Rebecca let out a weary sigh, a stark reminder of the dangers of their line of work. Spider-Man, on the other hand, couldn't help but facepalm at the carelessness that led to Julio's demise.

(Spider-Man) "Damn, at least he went out with a bang..."

(David) "That's cold, bro."

(Rebecca) Snorts

The trio marched forward, their steps resonating through the dark hallway as they approached the door leading to the hostages. With a swift motion, Spider-Man gripped the sturdy metal door and wrenched it from its hinges, sending it crashing to the ground in a cloud of dust and debris. The captives huddled in the corner, their eyes wide with disbelief as they gazed upon their liberators.

(David) "Isabella Morgan, you in here?"

David called out the name of the blond girl and she raised her hand in confusion.

(David) "We're here 'cause your dad put out an SOS."

(Spider-Man) "You're safe now. You all are."

The hostages, overcome with emotion, burst into tears of gratitude as they realized they were now free from the clutches of their captors. Spider-Man and his team stood there, taking in the scene and feeling a sense of satisfaction wash over them.

As David's phone rang, he quickly picked it up while watching the hostages. Meanwhile, Spider-Man, ever the vigilant protector, swiftly guided the tearful hostages towards the nearest exit, his spidey-sense alert for any danger that might still be lurking in the shadows. His movements were graceful yet efficient, his spider-like reflexes and agility allowing him to navigate the chaotic scene with ease. The hostages felt a sense of relief and security in the presence of the legendary hero, knowing that they were now under his protection.

(David) On call "Wakako, there?"

(Wakako) On call "You and Spider-Man safely secured the target, I hear. Our client will be pleased. Yes, that Isabella was saved, not-not butchered like cattle."

(David) "We just did our part."

(Wakako) "Yes. Most impressive. True. The rumors of you two being a team proved true."

(David) "Oh, sorry about Julio."

(Wakako) "No, no. Don't apologize. The boy, fool, insisted on the work with you two. Not ready, I said. Not ready, indeed. Any new lead I get we-we will be in touch, David."

(David) Gets in this ride with the rest and leaves the scene "Yeah. Good doing biz." Hangs up

As the trio basked in the afterglow of a successful mission, a sense of calmness washed over them. Karito's mask gracefully dematerialized, revealing his serene face as he reclined on the plush car seat, allowing himself a moment of respite. Meanwhile, Rebecca leaned back and interlocked her fingers, resting them gently behind her head, her mind at ease. David, on the other hand, remained alert and vigilant, taking in the cityscape through the car window as they cruised through the illuminated streets of Night City. His eyes occasionally flickered towards Falco and Kiwi, who were manning the front seats, their expressions unreadable in the dim light. Despite the weight of their previous mission, the trio's unity was unbreakable, and their bond was strengthened through every trial they faced together.

After a brief interlude, the group reconvened at a quaint plaza, where a jubilant atmosphere filled the air. Revelers twirled and swayed to the pulsating music, while an array of aromas wafted from nearby food stalls, tempting the senses. Rebecca, taking the mantle from her brother, showcased her dexterity with her shotgun, spinning it deftly between her fingers and launching bullet shells skywards with effortless ease, before nimbly catching and reloading them back into the weapon. Meanwhile, David, Karito, and Falco opted for a quieter spot away from the throngs of people, content in each other's company. Grateful for Falco's unwavering support as their getaway driver, David promptly sent him his well-deserved cut of the earnings, a gesture of appreciation that spoke volumes about their unity.

(Falco) "Thank you very much."

(David) "Appreciate the ride, Falco. Really."

(Karito) "Yeah, glad you're still here with us, man."

(Falco) "Always happy to keep the engine rolling."

(Karito) "Always so humble. Finding someone as trustworthy as you are hard to come by."

(Falco) "Oh, not sure about that." sighs "It seems you two gathered yourself quite the fan club. The unyielding Martinez Brothers or something like that. Who's gonna tell them that Karito is Spider-Man?" chuckles

(Karito) "Well, one of our fans got blown to kingdom come, so unfortunately that's one less."

(Falco) "Knew that goose was bluffing the moment we met."

(David) Laughs "We'd land better talent if we were all vets. Not everyone's like Karito and Maine. Hell, the few who were like Karito were bad guys that almost killed him, twice."

(Karito) "I could take it. Even though it was infernally painful to have almost every bone in your body broken and being burned alive by a walking volcano."

(Falco) "Have to admit, you have more lives than a damn cat. How are you alive after all that? I don't know, might as well believe in miracles. But what surprised me more is that you two now lead Maine's group. I thought Karito would be the one to take up the mantle because... well, it's Karito but I took David for a pushy-punk wannabe. Truth is, he was."

The trio chuckled heartily at Falco's remark, reminiscing on how far David had come in just a matter of months. It seemed like only yesterday that David was a mere shadow of the capable and confident individual he was today. However, through sheer grit and determination, David had evolved into a force to be reckoned with, a testament to his unwavering commitment to self-improvement.

(Falco) "But now? Well... Karito has made you fly higher than Maine ever did. You two brothers are what family should be, keeping each other from falling and standing up with more determination and will to be better."

(Karito) "As I've said before, David is my only family here. And I would do anything to make him better as his older brother."

(David) Smiles "Thanks, Karito."

(Karito) "Anytime."

(Falco) Slowly stands up "Right. Gonna roll before this all turns to goop. Buzz me for your next big gig, huh?" Waves "Till then. Later, David. Kiwi. Karito."

(David) "Yeah." Waves

(Karito) "See ya."

(Kiwi) Further behind them "Later."

As Falco made his exit in hushed tones, the trio seamlessly resumed their conversation, their rapport seemingly unbroken.

(Kiwi) "Honestly? I doubted David had it in him to take the reins alongside you, Karito."

(Karito) "I wasn't going to leave him behind. David has unlocked his potential and he's capable. I knew he had it in him... I always knew."

(Kiwi) "You two are something else. By the way, where is she?"

(David) His gaze turns serious

(Kiwi) "Been asking her?"

(Karito) "I barely hear from Lucy. And I'm slightly concerned."

(David) "I used to ask her, but not anymore. Kinda gave up trying."

(Kiwi) "Never pegged her as the type to get all shook-up."

(David) "More than what happened to Maine and Dorio is at play, I think. At the warehouse, Lucy was acting, I don't know, strange."

(Kiwi) "Strange how?"

(Karito) "Didn't you tell me that she knew about Anti-Venom?"

(David) "She did, and she started freaking out when I told her you were fighting him. But it's hard to say. Whole thing's kind of a blur. It might have been nothing."

(Karito) Mumbles "I highly doubt it."

(David) "What was that, Karito?"

(Karito) "Nah, just thinking out loud."

(David) "By the way." Looks at Kiwi "Wasn't it you who brought Lucy onboard, found her a spot in the crew?"

(Kiwi) "That's right."

(David) "She, like, ever talk to you about her past or anything?"

(Kiwi) "Most of the saps in our league don't bring up the old days. Shame, greed. Somethin' to prove. Whatever."

(David) Sighs

(Kiwi) "Either you're looking for a way out, or a way up, does it matter?"

(Karito) "I guess not." Thought "Weird, she hasn't told David? Strange."

As their conversation carried on, a sudden commotion interrupted the flow of their words. The trio shifted their attention toward the source of the noise, and their eyes landed on Rebecca. Her cybernetic arms, fueled by an enraged impulse, caused a cacophony of clattering sounds as she comically stumbled towards them, trying to join in on the conversation.

(Rebecca) "Yo, yo, yo!"

(David) "Hmm?"

(Karito) "Hey, Rebecca." He smiles.

(Rebecca) "Hey, cutie! David, why the long face? This nagging old hag keeping you off the dance floor?" She chuckles and sits down in between Karito and David.

(Kiwi) Ignores Rebecca and continues what she was saying. "Although, some edgerunners die in more shame than they start with."

(Rebecca) "Yo. It ain't right to badmouth the dead. It's not my bro's fault he got zeroed by some dude with fire powers. Right, Karito?"

(Karito) "I killed him, so it's all good."

(Rebecca) "After you were burned alive! But whatevs, have you ever seen Karito or David dance? It's a riot... Karito, did you teach David how to dance?"

(Karito) "Just martial arts, but I guess you can consider some Katas to be some sort of dance."

(Rebecca) "What's a Kata?"

(Karito) "Katas are a fundamental aspect of many martial arts, including Karate. They are pre-arranged patterns of movements and techniques that are performed solo or with a partner. Katas are designed to simulate a real-life self-defense situation and are often performed with imaginary opponents. Katas are an important part of martial arts training for several reasons. First, they help to develop and reinforce proper form, balance, and technique. Practicing katas allows martial artists to perfect their movements and develop muscle memory, which can be useful in real-life situations. In addition to physical benefits, katas also provide mental benefits. Practicing katas requires a great deal of focus and concentration, which can help to develop a martial artist's mental discipline and control. Finally, katas are also an important part of martial arts culture and tradition. Each kata has a specific name and meaning, and many katas have been passed down through generations of martial artists. Practicing katas helps to connect modern martial artists to their historical roots and allows them to honor the traditions and teachings of their predecessors."

(Rebecca) "Has someone ever told you that you're hot when you turn all historian-like?"

(Karito) "Sometimes." He drinks his beverage.

(David) Stands up "Sounds preem, but I think I'm gonna bounce. I gotta stop by Doc's."

(Karito) "A new upgrade? Don't you think you have more than enough?"

(David) "Nah nothing of the sort."

(Karito) "...Well if you say so."

(Rebecca) "Then tell that bastard you desperately need a dance chip! The Lazerpop Hip-Grind!"

(David) Starts walking away "Will do." Waves "See ya'll."

(Rebecca) "Hey, hey, Karito. Are you staying a bit longer? Please?" Puppy eyes

(Karito) Sigh "As much as I want to party, I gotta do some work."

(Rebecca) "Eeeeehh?! Work?! The patrols can wait!"

(Karito) "But a person's life that's in danger can't. We can hang out later, Rebecca." Stands up "See ya." Slowly turns invisible and leaps into the air

(Rebecca) "Hey! I ain't good at playing just friends!"

(Kiwi) Sees Karito web swing from the distance with his Spider-Man suit "Considered shaking up your approach?"

(Rebecca) "Yeah? How you figure? 'Stead of hot and loud', I try cold, distant, and nerdy?"

(Kiwi) "Maybe try upgrading your body into a more "mature" type?"

(Rebecca) "You think he likes his girls like that?"

(Kiwi) "Well he did tell me that his type was somewhere along those lines. He did specify someone called... "Black Cat"? But I don't have a clue who that is. The way he described her... fuck. She seems like a 10/10 in just about everything."

(Rebecca) Whines "Ughhhhhhhhh!"

...

Karito Pov

As I traverse the sprawling metropolis of Night City, my senses are heightened, alert for any signs of illicit activity. The rush of air against my skin as I effortlessly swing through the urban jungle serves as a visceral reminder of my extraordinary abilities. Yet, to my surprise, the usual mayhem and chaos that pervades this city seem to be at a lull.

A twinge of ennui begins to creep in as I continue my aimless journey through the concrete canyons, searching for any sign of excitement. It's a strange sensation, to be sure, given the reputation of this city as a hotbed of corruption and criminality. It feels like a night in a futuristic version of GTA, where the NPCs are on break.

Resigned to the quietude of the night, I decided to take a break and rest atop a nearby skyscraper. With a flick of my wrist, I activate my lateral repulsion skill, propelling myself skyward with ease. I land gracefully on the rooftop and make my way to the edge, gazing out at the sprawling cityscape below. The neon lights of Night City shimmer like jewels in the darkness, a mesmerizing sight to behold.

As I sit cross-legged on the rooftop, I summon my gamer system and peruse my stats. I saw all of my skills are still at master level, and there are question marks next to my accumulated stat points. I can't help but wonder what new abilities and powers the EXP points will unlock.

Lost in thought, I suddenly remember a long-forgotten skill: telepathy. With a focused mind, I attempt to connect with my apprentice Peter, hoping to engage in a bit of mental conversation. After a few moments of concentration, I feel a connection form, and I smile in relief. I make sure to communicate in a way that won't startle him, given the unusual nature of our exchange. But because I'm bored I decided to tease him. As I relax on the rooftop, I can't help but feel a sense of contentment, knowing that my extraordinary abilities have allowed me to experience the world in ways most people can only dream of. Even though it's not as delightful as some claim it to be. But because I'm bored I decided to tease him.

(Karito) Telepathically "Greetings, Peter. It is I, your favorite dimension-hopping Spider-Man, Karito. Can you hear me?"

(Peter) "What the-?! Mr. Karito? Where are you? Is this some sort of PTSD hallucination?"

(Karito) "No, you buffoon. It's telepathy. Try to keep up."

(Peter) "Telepathy? You mean to tell me you've had that power all this time and you're just now using it to mess with my head?"

(Karito) "Well, to be fair, I did forget about it. But after doing some introspection, it all came back to me."

(Peter) "Ah, yes. Introspection. That's how you remember your powers. Not like the rest of us mere mortals who have to write them down on sticky notes."

(Karito) "Hey, I never claimed to be a mortal. I'm a super-powered being with the ability to traverse dimensions, remember?"

(Peter) "Right, right. So, let me get this straight. After a year of radio silence, you decide to contact me out of the blue, and oh, by the way, you have telepathy. Is that about right?"

(Karito) "A year? Ha! That's nothing, my dear boy. I've been gone for what feels like eons."

(Peter) "Eons?! How is that even possible?"

(Karito) "Time dilation, my friend. In some dimensions, time moves slower, while in others, it moves faster. In my case, it's been moving at a breakneck pace."

(Peter) "That's crazy. So what have you been up to all this time?"

(Karito) "Oh, you know, just saving the multiverse, battling interdimensional villains, and making sure that the fabric of reality doesn't collapse on itself. The usual superhero stuff."

(Peter) "Right, right. And here I am, still trying to figure out how to balance my schoolwork and my superhero duties."

(Karito) "Well, that's what I'm here for, my young padawan. I left you a whole bunch of training programs to help you harness your powers."

(Peter) "Yeah, about that. One of the programs said that if I'm not careful, I could accidentally kill someone with just a flick of my finger. That's...terrifying."

(Karito) "Oh, yeah. Been there, done that. Accidentally cracked a guy's skull during a mission with the Avengers. It's all about control, my dear Peter. Control."

(Peter) "Got it. So, when should I not hold back?"

(Karito) "When you're facing aliens or monsters, my friend. Those guys can take a punch."

(Peter) "Ah, yes. Because aliens and monsters are known for their resilience."

(Karito) "Hey, don't knock it until you try it. I've been doing this for 26 years now, and let me tell you, I've seen some things."

(Peter) "Wait, 26 years? But you look like you're in your mid-twenties. How is that even possible?"

(Karito) "Ah, that's because I reincarnated during one of my missions."

(Peter) "Reincarnated?! Is there anything you can't do?"

(Karito) "Well, I can't explain everything to you right now. I'm too lazy for that. But I promise to fill you in on all the juicy details later."

(Peter) "Thanks, Mr. Karito. You always know how to make things interesting."

(Karito) "That's what I'm here for, my dear Peter. That's what I'm here for."

As our conversation progressed, my attention was momentarily drawn to Kiwi's holographic identification that dangled at the periphery of my vision. A sense of weariness overcame me, and I resolved to sever my telepathic link with Peter.

(Karito) "Farewell, Peter. Keep your spider senses sharp and your webs at the ready."

(Peter) "You got it, Mr. Karito. I'll make sure to stock up on web fluid."

(Karito) "And remember, with great power comes great responsibility."

(Peter) "Ah, the classic Spider-Man line. I live by those words, sir."

(Karito) "As you should, my young Padawan. But enough of the sentimental stuff. I must depart on my mission to save the multiverse. And It's time to kickass and chew ass and I'm all outa ass."

(Peter) "May the force be with you, Mr. Karito."

(Karito) "Wrong reference, Peter. But I appreciate the sentiment nonetheless."

(Peter) "Right, right. Sorry, I get my sci-fi mixed up sometimes."

(Karito) "It's all good. Now, I must be off. Duty calls."

(Peter) "Be safe out there, Mr. Karito. And kick some interdimensional butt!"

(Karito) "Ha! You know me too well, Peter. Until we meet again." Cuts connection

With a resigned exhalation, I reached for the holographic ringing phone that belonged to Kiwi. The device continued to sound, and I knew that ignoring it would only lead to more interruptions. As my eyes looked at the caller ID, I wondered why she would call so late in the night. I just hope it isn't a booty call.

(Karito) "Karito speaking. Oh, a meeting at the Afterlife bar? How delightful. I was just thinking I needed a little more excitement in my day. Perhaps a nice spot of tea with some immortal souls. Oh joy."

(Kiwi) "Your presence is requested there immediately, Karito. Your brother David is already waiting."

(Karito) "David? Oh, fantastic. Because nothing quite screams 'fun' like a family reunion in the Afterlife bar. I can hardly wait. Alright, let's get this over with. I'll be there momentarily."

(Kiwi) "Understood. See you there." Hangs up

(Karito) "Wonderful. Just another day in the life of a supernatural being. Never a dull moment, is there?"

With a deep breath, I feel my symbiotic suit's tendrils crawl up my skin, encompassing me in a powerful embrace. The suit's red matter surrounds me, twisting and forming to create the iconic web-slinger that the city knows and loves. With a mighty leap, I launch myself from the skyscraper's edge, relishing the cool night air as I soar through the city skyline.

Weaving through the high rises, I twist and contort my body, and my suit's tendrils stretch and coil with me, aiding me in my acrobatic movements. The lights of the city blur beneath me as I rocket towards my destination: the elusive Afterlife bar.

Within seconds, I spy the dim lights and shrouded entrance of the underground bar. A grin spreads across my face as I adjust my trajectory and plummet towards the ground, landing with a satisfying thud that cracks the pavement slightly. I straighten my posture, taking a moment to dust off my suit before looking up and locking eyes with my brother, David, who stands a few feet away from me, awaiting my arrival.

(David) "Alright, let's get this meeting with this client done for. I'm sure you must've begrudgingly came because Kiwi told you so?"

(Spider-Man) "You know me too well, David. But hey, it's not like I have a social life outside of my symbiotic suit anyway."

(David) "Well, I heard that it's Faraday."

(Spider-Man) "Ugh, that guy? What does he want now? World domination? A private island with a volcano lair?"

(David) "I don't know, but I do know that if things go south, you can handle it."

(Spider-Man) "Handle it? I'll make him regret ever thinking of crossing paths with the Spider-Man."

(David) "Easy there, tiger. Let's hear him out first."

(Spider-Man) "Fine, but if he tries anything funny, I'm unleashing my Venom blast on him."

(David) "Let's hope it doesn't come to that. Now, let's go face the music."

David and I pushed open the heavy wooden door of the Afterlife bar, its hinges creaking in protest. The subdued murmur of conversation filled the air, punctuated by the clinking of glasses and the occasional burst of raucous laughter. As we made our way through the crowded room, heads turned in our direction, recognizing the two brothers who had a reputation for dealing with the most dangerous jobs in the Night City.

Ignoring the stares and nods of greeting, we focused on our destination: a private room at the back of the bar. Kiwi was waiting for us at the entrance.

(Kiwi) "Spider-Man. David." She said, greeting the two brothers as they entered the private room.

(Spider-Man) Gave a casual wave. "Hey there, Kiwi."

(David) Greeted her with a simple "Hello."

(Kiwi) Stepped in between the two brothers and gave them a meaningful look. "Good luck, you two," She said before walking away.

(David) Let out a sigh

(Spider-Man) Raised an eyebrow. "That doesn't sound sus at all," he remarked with a hint of sarcasm.

No Pov

As they entered the dimly-lit private room, Karito and David immediately spotted Faraday, flanked by three imposing figures. The air was thick with tension, as the four men stared down the two brothers. Karito instinctively felt his symbiotic suit tense up in response, ready for any potential threat. Faraday's icy gaze met Karito's, and the tension in the room was palpable.

(Faraday) "Gentlemen, I believe this is the first time we've had the pleasure of meeting in person. Though, it seems Spider-Man and I have crossed paths before, albeit briefly."

(Spider-Man) "Indeed, we've encountered each other during a conversation with Maine a few months back."

(Faraday) "Ah, yes. I remember now. Well, it's a pleasure to finally make your acquaintance, Mister Martinez, and Mister Spider-Man. My name is Faraday."

The two brothers sat silently, waiting for Faraday to get down to business.

(David) "Do you have a job for us, or are we just here to exchange pleasantries?"

(Faraday) "Slow down, gentlemen. Allow me to buy you a drink and commend you on your impressive reputation. The Sandevistan from Santo, David, is a name that has made its way to my ears. And as for you, Spider-Man, your reputation precedes you as an actual superhero in this world. Impressive."

(David) "We appreciate the compliment, but let's get to the point."

(Faraday) "Of course. You see, Maine and I had an arrangement, and I understand that you two are also adept at team building."

(Spider-Man) "We do what it takes to get the job done."

(Faraday) "Excellent. But as you saw with Maine, personal attachment can be a flaw. I need to be certain that you can deliver on the same level as he did."

(David) "We don't come cheap, if that's what you're asking."

(Faraday) "Rest assured, nothing from my desk is cheap."

Faraday slides a shard towards Spider-Man and David, which they examine closely.

(David) "A job for Militech? That's Arasaka's bitter rival."

(Spider-Man) "What's the catch?"

(Faraday) "Megacorps offer the most lucrative contracts, and this one is no exception. However, I do need you to take on a familiar job."

(Spider-Man) "The Tanaka data heist? We've already been there, done that."

(Faraday) "Yes, but I received a report that Tanaka possessed no relevant data. However, I did hear that you managed to pierce Arasaka's ICE without Kiwi's help."

(David) "That's right. We have some capable netrunners on our team."

(Faraday) "Excellent. However, I also heard that the netrunner who helped you has gone dark."

(Spider-Man) "Yes, she's taking a break after that job. It took a toll on her."

(Faraday) "Such a waste of talent. I suggest you give her a nudge in the right direction."

(David) "We'll do what we can, but what about the risk? Arasaka knows Militech is after them."

(Faraday) "Yes, they do. But that's no concern of yours. Unnecessary details can cloud one's mind."

(Spider-Man) "Understood, but is there anything else we should know?"

(Faraday) "Not at the moment, but good things come to those who act. First, prove to me that you're worth my time. And Spider-Man, prove to 'them' that you're worth their time."

...

Following the meeting with Faraday, the two brothers parted ways, each on their own path. Spider-Man continued his vigil, his spider-sense ever alert for any sign of danger, as he swung gracefully through the cityscape. Meanwhile, David returned to his home, where he indulged in a refreshing shower to wash away the tension of the meeting.

As he emerged from the shower, David's thoughts turned to his partner, Lucy, and he made his way towards her. He spoke to her of the new job opportunity that had presented itself, but he knew better than to push her into anything she wasn't comfortable with. Lucy, still hesitant about going on missions, remained resolute in her decision. The couple fell into a brief lull in conversation until Lucy suddenly had an idea.

Without hesitation, they made their way to the garage where David's motorcycle was parked. The engine roared to life as they drove out into the night, the cool wind brushing past their faces. The sky was alight with stars, illuminating their path.

As they made their way towards the Badlands, the deserted expanse of the city, the couple marveled at the beauty of the night sky. Eventually, they found a comfortable spot to park the bike, settling in for a moment of quiet contemplation. They gazed out over the city and the stars, the gentle rustle of the wind and the chirping of crickets providing a soothing background soundtrack. For a moment, they forgot about the stresses of their daily lives and simply enjoyed the simple pleasure of each other's company, the beauty of the world around them, and the serenity of the night.

(David) "Wow! Look at all those stars! It's breathtaking."

(Lucy) "Indeed, the view is simply mesmerizing. It's something you can't get in the city."

(David) Chuckles "Maybe I'll catch one."

(Lucy) Smiles "You're lucky you're cute."

(David) Let's out a wistful sigh "Sure wish the moon was out."

(Lucy) "Actually, you can see the stars better and brighter when the moon stays away."

(David) "Really? I never knew that."

(Lucy) "Yes, it's true. The moon's light can outshine the stars. You may have gone to Arasaka Academy, but I'm still the one teaching you astronomy."

(David) "Oh, right. You always have been the smart one in the relationship."

(Lucy) "It's not about being smart, David. It's about having different interests and passions. Speaking of which, you know, I'm really glad we took this trip outside of the city. It's nice to get away from the hustle and bustle and just enjoy some quiet time together."

(David) "Me too. You know, I've never been outside the city before."

(Lucy) "Is that right?"

(David) "But have you had a life outside Night City once?"

(Lucy) "..." She looks out at the glittering lights of the city. "It seems like a prison from here. A cage of light."

(David) "You may not remember, but you once said that you and I were worlds apart."

(Lucy) "Yes, I did say that."

(David) "What did you mean by that? If you don't mind sharing."

(Lucy) "It's a long story, David. A story I have never shared with anyone before."

(David) "I understand. But I would be honored to hear it, if you're willing to share."

(Lucy) She takes a deep breath, looking away from the city. "I was born in another country, far from here. I was raised in an Arasaka facility, along with twelve other children. We were chosen because we passed the proficiency test, deemed fit to become netrunners. We were kids who wouldn't be missed anywhere else. Arasaka promised us that we would serve the world's most powerful megacorp one day. And that dream kept us going through the toughest days, the toughest training. It was the dream we were given, the dream we never questioned."

(David) "And then?"

(Lucy) "One day, our training was over. We expected to be assigned to different corporations all over the world. But instead, they moved us underground. We were forced to dive into the Old Net, where they sent us to search for legacy info, lost knowledge. It was a dangerous mission, and we were all but forgotten. And day in, day out, they forced us to dive, and we uncovered rare data caches. But rogue AIs would find us and swarm. We were picked off one by one. Our dream had become a nightmare, and we were chasing someone else's dream, throwing down our lives to do it."

(David) "That sounds terrible. How did you escape?"

(Lucy) "We didn't. Not all of us. But then, Karito came. He broke into the facility and saved us all. The staff didn't stand a chance against him. He fought and fought, protecting us from any harm that got in our way. He was like an angel, David. He told us to run while he distracted them. And we ran and ran. I heard shots, monstrous screams, my friends' screams. But I never looked back. I almost died running away as I stumbled to the ground. One of those guards had reached me and was about to grab me, but like a miracle, Karito saved me and carried me on his back while we both ran away from the multitude of enemies. I could feel his strong back as I wrapped around him while he protected me. I was convinced that he was some sort of Guardian Angel that would protect me from any harm and fell asleep. His aura made me calm, knowing that I was safe. The next clear memory I have is of a junkyard. I assumed that Karito had left me there to hide me from the enemies. I was sad that he left, but I couldn't stay scared for too long. I've done enough of that already. I roamed from place to place. But there's no place like Night City if you want to hide."

(David) "And even now, do you still feel like they're chasing you?"

(Lucy) "Not anymore, David. I wholeheartedly believed that Karito would protect me, even if he was present or not. He was my hero, my angel."

(David) "So that's why you at first were interested in Karito..."

(Lucy) "He was like a God to me... an Angel that heard my callings... but as they say... "Never meet your heroes." Huh..."

As the conversation progressed, a sudden tremor coursed through David's hand, sending it into a quivering frenzy. Lucy's eyes darted to his hand, concern etched across her face.

(Lucy) She gasped as she noticed David's shaking hand. "Your hand," she exclaimed, concern etched on her face.

(David) "It's nothing. It'll be fine in a sec," He reassured her as he held his wrist to steady it. But Lucy could see through his facade.

(Lucy) "Haven't changed, have you? Still chasing someone else's dream," she remarked, her eyes narrowing.

David sighed, memories of his friend Maine and their shared dream resurfacing in his mind. He felt Lucy's grip on his shoulder as she placed her hand on top of his.

(Lucy) "It's not like I don't understand," She said softly, acknowledging the weight of David's dreams. "Just that...things are different now. I can't be afraid for myself anymore. All I fear now is...someday, you'll..." She trailed off, unable to finish her sentence.

David's arms wrapped around Lucy in a tender embrace, a moment of gratitude for her unwavering care for him. As she smiled back at him, her eyes lit up with warmth and affection. But in a sudden instant, her expression twisted into one of shock as a barrage of information flooded her field of vision, stretching the limits of her perception.

...

The man stood in his dimly lit office, his face illuminated by the glow of his computer screen. He spoke into his headset, his voice low and steady as he relayed the latest developments to his anonymous contact.

He informed them that he had managed to retrieve most of the data, despite the fact that the vitals file for one of the test subjects had been completely corrupted, clearly indicating that it had been deliberately manipulated. He assured the other party that there was no trace in the ICE, but acknowledged that only a handful of highly skilled netrunners could have executed such a precise attack.

When asked about the possibility of Tanaka's involvement, the man rejected the idea, stating that Tanaka had no reason to do so. He instead speculated that Tanaka's system was breached when he was captured, which led to the corruption of the vitals file.

The man ended the conversation by pledging to do everything in his power to resolve the issue, before bidding his contact farewell and disconnecting the call.

The Man strode purposefully down the desolate and dimly-lit alleyway, his senses alert for any sign of danger. Suddenly, he felt a prickling sensation on the back of his neck, as if someone or something was observing him. He spun around, his eyes scanning the shadows, but found no one lurking there. Despite the empty surroundings, he could not shake off the feeling of being watched. Just as he was about to reach for his contacts to call Norman Osborn, a sharp pain shot through his head, causing him to clutch at his temples and cry out in agony. As he knelt on the cold concrete, he felt a sudden presence behind him, and before he could react, a crimson blade sliced through his neck, cleanly severing his head from his body. The mysterious weapon then transformed into a humanoid hand, as if to taunt its hapless victim in its final moments.

The two people stared down at the headless body of the man and looked at each other.

(Spider-Man) His expression turned grave as he asked, "Was that one of them?"

(Lucy) She nodded solemnly, "Yeah... he was tracking David."

(Spider-Man) A note of concern crept into his voice as he spoke, "Lucy... look. Are you sure you wanna continue this?"

(Lucy) "It's for David's protection. We've talked about this," She replied resolutely.

(Spider-Man) His voice dropped to a low murmur as he voiced his concerns, "I know, you know everything about the Darks and Guardians but you've been paranoid ever since you saw that info about the truth of everything."

(Lucy) Her eyes blazed with an intensity born of fear and anger, "Do you think I would remain sane after knowing that everything and everyone around me is just a fucking story for these "Readers" to indulge in? Do you know how that ruins someone?"

(Spider-Man) His voice softened as he replied, "Of course, I fucking know, Lucy! But what I'm trying to say is that if we keep going this path I'm not sure if I can even save you or anyone else! We are falling on the "Bad Ending" of all this!"

(Lucy) Her face twisted into a scowl as she retorted, "THEN MAKE IT A "GOOD ENDING," KARITO! ISN'T THAT YOU'RE FUCKING JOB?! TO FIX THE FUCKING MULTIVERSE?! JUST DO IT!"

(Spider-Man) His eyes narrowed with frustration as he replied, "You have seen how fucking things get whenever I meet a Dark. Don't you dare make it sound like it's easy. I'm not a God, I'm just one man doing the job of trillions."

(Lucy) Her eyes softened momentarily before she turned to leave, "Whatever... I... I'm going home..."

Spider-Man watched her retreating form with a mixture of sadness and worry etched on his face.

(Spider-Man) Sighs "Why is shit always got to be so complicated?"

...

The dark dimension enveloped the three men in a shroud of obscurity, as they sat around the triangular table. With somber expressions, they gazed upon the world beyond, a realm marred by chaos and destruction. Their collective dissatisfaction with the state of things was palpable, and they decided to bicker on the theme.

Deep in thought, they sought a topic to discuss, one that would challenge their understanding of the world and its purpose. For them, life was not just a mere existence, but a profound and philosophical journey. As the debate began to unfold, their words carried a weight that transcended the mundane.

(???) In his thoughts "If any of you "readers" understand this reference, congrats. You won a cookie."

(Anonymous 1): "It is abundantly clear that you are nothing but a mere pawn in this grand game, and you shall remain one until you learn to play by the rules. Those rules are crystal clear: accept what you are given, surrender what you have, and then claim the difference for yourself. The only question that remains is how great that difference shall be."

(Anonymous 2): "And do you truly intend to emerge victorious in this game?"

(Anonymous 1): "Why not? For we, the people, are the true players in this game. On one side of us are the docile cattle, the TV junkies who have surrendered their free will to the propaganda machine. On the other side is power, the elite who deem us to be nothing but simple-minded sheep. They expect us to take care of them, yet they themselves refuse to lift a finger. And the truly powerful ones have become like gods, so high up that they cannot even see us as either a serious threat or a trusted ally. But they are not immortal, and that is their only weakness. This leaves only you and me to play the game. Sometimes I benefit you, and at other times, you benefit me. But everyone is playing their own game."

(Anonymous 2): "HAHAHA! Do you truly believe that you are a player in this game?"

(Anonymous 1): "I play the game like the great ones! Consider the authorities... They may be quite unceremonious, but they do have a few lively tricks up their sleeves for the masses. Every few months, they give the people something to vent their frustrations... Elections, Black Friday, a new automobile plant, the next installment of Star Wars, Anime, or the Super Bowl... And the masses gobble it up like mindless zombies. But when the people have holes in their pockets and nothing to eat, who is responsible for that? It is then that the authorities provide them with a sacrifice, a patsy to blame for their misfortunes. And you can be certain that it will be us - you and I. Do you see the game now? The people do not care about themselves, and the authorities do not care about them either. And here we are, stuck in the middle, owing something to someone, yet unsure of what or to whom. It's all very unclear." Clicks his tongue "Hehehehe!"

(Anonymous 2) "Ah, such purity and simplicity! You reveal yourself to be even more naive than I initially thought. Nevertheless, you make an astute observation: we are but mere butter spread between a thin layer of caviar and moldy bread. Your comment reminds me of a classic fable, one that speaks to the perils of playing by someone else's rules. In this fable, a poor wolf and a wealthy fox, who had once been classmates, lived vastly different lives due to their differing social classes. One day, the world came to the Wolf and begged for guidance, yearning to live the same lavish lifestyle as the fox. Without hesitation, the fox offered the world a cushy job - simply sit in a chair and quietly catch fish, following the rules and taking what you can. The wolf nervously observed everyone else following this routine, but soon began to catch big fish and small ones, just like everyone else. The fox came to collect his share of the spoils, but the wolf, in a desperate attempt to keep what he had gained, lied and claimed a fish was stuck in his tail. The fox, quick to spot the deception, used an axe to cut off the wolf's tail and free the fish. It's a cautionary tale, one that warns against the dangers of blindly following the rules of those in power. For when we do, we risk losing everything, even our most prized possessions. As the saying goes, 'When you play by someone else's rules, you are at their mercy.' And as we can see from this fable, that mercy can be cruel and unrelenting."

(Anonymous 1) "Why are you telling me your tales here? If you're so smart, then, maybe, you know the way out?"

(Anonymous 2) "Ah, my dear colleague, you mistake my stories for frivolity. They are, in fact, a reflection of the human condition that we find ourselves in. As for the way out, it lies not in this labyrinth of chaos, but through the entrance that we initially entered. We must remove ourselves from this endless cycle of mundanity and seek a higher purpose. It is a shame that our society values material possessions and empty pleasures over knowledge and enlightenment. The fruits of our labor seem to lead us nowhere, for we are trapped in a system that perpetuates ignorance and mediocrity. We must break free from the confines of this existence and forge a new path. Alas, the pervasiveness of apathy and ignorance has left us with few options. The current state of our society is a reflection of its own demise. The corruption and decay that surrounds us leaves us with no choice but to abandon this illusion and find a new reality. So let us depart from this place and leave behind the misery that has befallen us. It is time to awaken from this nightmare and seek a higher truth. Only then can we truly escape the confines of our existence."

(Anonymous 1) "To leave? And who will grant you that liberty? This nightmare has you ensnared, and it will never relinquish its hold. Money, we do have, but whose is it, truly? Can you spend it, offshore it, or even legalize it? Can you pass it on to your offspring without fear? Do not deceive yourself or behave as others do. You are trapped, and this confinement will only release you upon your expiration. Our wealth can absolve us of criminal charges, provide us with luxurious abodes, several vehicles, and prestigious tutors for our progeny, but that is the extent of our freedom. Like a hamster on a wheel, you laboriously run in place while the system continues to function without interruption. Allow me to impart a tale, my dear friend. Once lived a man much like you, intelligent and enterprising. He found employment, settled into routine, and slowly increased his speed. He was allotted a budget, which he managed astutely and rightfully received his cut. Do you understand my meaning? Why build a fence for a million when it can cost so much more? He continued along this path, and the books appeared well-balanced. On occasion, they did not align, but for the most part, the machine operated smoothly. He greased the wheels with some "taste" and evaded court. He "tasted" again and avoided an audit. He would "taste" at the expense of those who caught him and emerge unscathed. However, one day he decided, 'Enough!' I have amassed sufficient wealth for myself and my children. No more risk. Everything may transform. I am departing the game quietly. I must transfer my funds and vanish. I eluded grandma, grandpa, the Traffic Cop, the Prosecutor, and the Tax Police. Therefore, I can elude you, Mr. Fox!"

(Anonymous 2) "And what?"

(Anonymous 1) "What, what?! Merely letting him go would have been an utter loss for the fox. He detests those who possess a strong will and a desire to break free from his clutches. To those who attempt to escape, he unleashes a fierce onslaught, subjecting them to the whims of the tax police, the D.A., and the courts. He drains them of their resources and throws them into jail. You brought this upon yourself, Gingerbread man." He turns to ??? "WHY ARE YOU SILENT?! HELLO?! THIS ALL STARTED BECAUSE OF YOU! Are you even present?"

(???) "What can I say? You were making some valid points, so I refrained from chiming in. So, what is your goal? To emerge victorious? Or to avoid losing?"

(Anonymous 1) "To avoid losing!"

(Anonymous 2) "To emerge victorious!"

(???) "Doesn't matter. How is it possible to win or not lose in a game where the rules are constantly changing but are never altered by you? The game is rigged, and we are merely pawns in a never-ending cycle of manipulation and deceit. Allow me to share a fable with you. Once upon a time, there was a turnip that grew to be very large. The people around it tried to pull it out in different directions, but it wouldn't budge. The turnip remained firmly rooted in the ground, taunting them with its impossible size. Then, a brilliant mind suggested, 'Why don't we all grab the turnip together and pull it in the same direction?' They united and pulled with all their might, and the turnip finally yielded. It shone gloriously, its beauty radiating like the sun. Before it was just sitting there, and everyone had nothing. But after it was pulled, everyone had enough. This story teaches us that cooperation is key. If we want to change the game, we must come together and create our own set of rules. We must shift the power dynamic from those who control us to those who truly deserve it. And that's when the real game begins. Or rather, my game."

The room fell silent, as if time itself had come to a halt. The two enigmatic figures, shrouded in mystery, remained silent, unwilling to break the reverent stillness that had descended upon the space. At that moment, the meeting was concluded, not by spoken words, but by an unspoken understanding that had settled between them, binding them in a tacit agreement that transcended mere words.

(???) "Gentlemen, please be aware that my fiction is a carefully crafted world that has taken years to create. It is a world that follows a strict set of rules, and any attempt to undermine those rules will not be tolerated. The implications of such a transgression are severe, for they would disturb the very fabric of my creation. I implore you to understand that there are consequences for your actions. Any attempts to defile my work will result in your expulsion from this narrative and ultimately, from history itself. Do I make myself abundantly clear?"

Anonymous 1 and 2 exchanged a glance, both visibly shaken by ???'s threat.

(Anonymous 1) "Y-yes, crystal clear."

(Anonymous 2) "We understand completely."

??? looks at them both, eyes narrowed.

(???) "Good. Now get out of my sight."

Anonymous 1 and 2 quickly scurry out of the room, the weight of ???'s warning heavy on their minds. As they make their way down the hallway, Anonymous 1 turns to Anonymous 2.

(Anonymous 1) "Did you feel that?"

(Anonymous 2) "Feel what?"

(Anonymous 1) "The power in his voice. He could really do it. He could erase us from existence."

Anonymous 2: "We can't mess with ???'s fiction. It's not worth the risk."

They both nod in agreement and continue on their way, silently vowing to never cross ???'s rules again.

(???) Shifts his gaze towards Y/N "You, dear reader, must understand that even though I am but a mere fictional character, my influence extends far beyond the pages of this story. The words that I speak, the actions that I take, have the power to shape the minds of those around you. And if you ever dare to try and disrupt my system, to defy my rules, you will feel the full weight of my wrath. I will not hesitate to use my influence to sway those around you, to turn them against you, to make your life a living nightmare. So tread carefully, dear reader, for you never know when you may come face to face with a character like me. A character with the power to bend reality to his will."

With an imperious gesture, he snaps his fingers, bringing an abrupt and decisive conclusion to this chapter. The sheer force of his will and presence permeates the air, leaving no room for further debate or discussion. With one flick of his wrist, he exerts his control over the very fabric of the narrative, a testament to his supreme authority and mastery over the written word. And so, with a finality that echoes throughout the pages, the chapter comes to a close, leaving the reader to ponder the weight of his power and the significance of his actions.
