Chapter 41 - CHAPTER 41

"Are you aware of what you've done, Alistair?" Josh stared at Alistair with a cold gaze. The other members also looked at him with indifferent expressions on their faces.

With a fearful expression on his face, Alistair glanced around cautiously, afraid that one of them would suddenly attack him. Alistair also searched his surroundings for a way to escape this situation.

Alistair then anxiously stared at Josh and answered, "I don't know. I was just trying to hunt here since Carlisle won't let me hunt in their territory."

Facing a ridiculous excuse from Alistair, Josh shook his head in disappointment and said, "It seems like we were wrong about you, Alistair. If you had just completed your mission correctly, we would have planned to recruit you fully into our organization."

Having his excuse not work on them, Alistair grew more anxious. His eyes wandered everywhere around him, looking for a way to escape. Josh and the other members, who, of course, noticed Alistair's anxiety, put their guard up and prepared to intercept him if he ever tried to run.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" Josh said to Alistair, while giving the other members a slight nod.

With fear engulfing his well-being, Alistair didn't spare any attention for Josh and immediately dashed towards the main road. He knew that this organization was very cautious with their actions and never allowed themselves to be known to ordinary humans.

So, with his mind filled with hope that when he was near the road, there would be people walking and driving, miraculously, Alistair managed to slip past the members who were blocking his path. With his eyes full of hope and a little bit of relief, he jumped over the basketball court's fence. However, his expression immediately grew darker when he felt something holding onto one of his feet.

Alistair glanced over his shoulder and saw Josh holding one of his feet. Josh grinned under his mask, but Alistair couldn't see the expression Josh made when he caught him because of the mask.

Josh then threw Alistair back into the middle of the court, and he was immediately surrounded by the members of the Daggers. With a fearful look on his face, Alistair tried to stand up and make another attempt to run, but the members immediately pinned him to the ground.

Josh then approached Alistair with a cold gaze and said, "What a coward."

Alistair stared at Josh with a look of pity on his face and said, "P-Please, give me a chance..."

"We have rules. We can tolerate someone if they have ever failed their mission. But you... you have violated the rules," Josh said while circling around Alistair, who was pinned to the ground. Josh then looked at the members and nodded at them.

Two of the members then approached Alistair. One of them took hold of Alistair's hand and forcefully tore one of his fingers from his right hand, followed by the other member who did the same to another one of Alistair's fingers. The sound of breaking ceramic could be heard, followed by Alistair's agonizing screams of pain.

"I-I didn't mean to! I was scared!" Alistair said with a pleading tone while looking at his two missing fingers.

"You didn't even come to us for an explanation, you didn't even send us a message. You know the rules and are aware of the consequences if you ever break them. Yet you broke them just like that, out of what? Fear?"

Josh then gestured to the members again, and this time, three of them approached Alistair and did the same to the remaining fingers on his right hand. There was a hopeless look on Alistair's face, and then came the agonizing screams from his mouth. His hair became messy as a result of his struggle.

"P-Please... give me a chance...just this one."

Alistair pleaded for mercy, but Josh just shook his head and said, "I don't understand why such a coward was being hunted by the Volturi."

Josh then gestured for the members to once again tear Alistair's fingers on his left hand. Alistair screamed in pain once more as the members, one by one, tore his fingers apart.

"Maybe you're not even being hunted by them, but you're just making an excuse."

"J-Just kill me already..." Alistair said, his face devoid of emotion.

Seeing the hopeless figure of Alistair, Josh could only chuckle. The members looked at him with their expectant gaze. Josh then nodded at the members, giving them permission.

In the next moment, a gruesome scene unfolded on the basketball court. Alistair's body could be seen torn apart, limb by limb. His hands, legs, thighs, ears, and even his eyes were plucked out of their sockets by the members of the daggers.

After that, Josh approached Alistair, who still had his head intact. Josh then held Alistair's neck with both of his hands and said with an expressionless tone.

"May The Blood Of Our Victims Guide Us All."

( Present Time - The Cullens' House - MC Pov )

I was currently channeling my energy again, ensuring that what I was feeling was accurate. And after a few minutes, I opened my eyes and sighed. It appears that Alistair is truly deceased; I cannot sense any energy from him whatsoever.

I looked in a certain direction and was certain that Alistair hadn't gone far from the state of Washington. I could try searching for him using the residual energy that was left there, but I have to be close to the location of my energy. However, it was too troublesome and time-consuming. Besides, I don't have to worry about him anymore.

Should I inform Carlisle about the death of his friend? Never mind, I don't have the evidence to prove that, and it would be such a hassle if I tried to prove it. Not worth my time. Besides, today is the day that Edward told Bella about his and his family's departure. I planned on watching them, and maybe I'll figure out a way to make Bella stay loyal to Edward.

Just thinking about Bella and Jacob's relationship in later times makes me shiver.
