"Alice! Alice!" My dad called me and I jumped out of bed. I looked as if I had been shocked for the rest of my life, my hair flying everywhere while I blinked, reminding my father of a cow in a green field. "You have overslept again and you will miss practice. You know I am busy and…"
"Oh, come on dad." I whined, hitting my feet on the bed. "It's summer, why do I need to get up so early and train?"
"It's noon." my dad commented and crossed his arms over his chest. People always said we had the same yes. I couldn't see it though, except for the ge color our whole look was different. He always looked so stoic and serious and I well, most of the time I reminded everyone of a sleepy sheep. Not that I minded though.
He grabbed the covers and threw them off my bed making me groan before I stood up, looking at him with a frown.
"Alice, I know it is tiring but believe me, practice is very important, you will need it." he had told me.
And oh, how right he was. I thought as I gripped the wrist of the man that was grabbing a handful of my hair. My claws appeared and they sank into his skin making him groan and I smiled.
"You piece of shit." I cursed as he let go of me and I kicked him in the stomach."
"Wait…" he groaned, taking a step back and raising one of his arms up to signal that he was surrendering. The other one was placed above his stomach, right where I had kicked him. "I won't hurt you." He stated but I remained in my defensive stance.
"I am from the council, an investigator." he told me and I looked at him with a questioning look before he raised his arm, showing me the mark of the wolf council, the authority that coordinated all of the pack. It was a gathering of the most powerful Alpha's, an organization to help maintain order and protect our species from hunters, vampires and many other enemies.
"What do you want?" I asked him.
"What do you want? I came here to investigate the murders of the Moontear Pack. It seems very suspicious that you are here all alone after what happened."
"That was my pack!" I exclaimed, feeling offended by his assumption.
"That is impossible. I have been informed that everyone from Moontear has died." he said with confidence. He was definitely around my age, he screamed young pup from miles away so I don't really know why he was sent here by the council. Maybe they didn't care about the case at all, they simply needed to send someone to just say that they bothered. He was only a bit taller than me, his face was sweet with round brown eyes that reminded me of a deer a bit. His hair was short and black, while he was dressed with a gray suit.
"Well, you have been informed wrong and why are you wearing a gray suit?" I asked him.
"That is formal council attire and there is no way I was informed wrong. The council was absolute and…"
"Look…" I said and sighed. Turning around I showed him my tattoo, wanting to be over with this as soon as possible. I was aware that turning your back to a possible enemy was reckless but he seemed more intimidated by the idea that the council could be wrong rather than anything else.
"You…you survived? Then you must have seen the killer! We need to get to the council immediately and inform the elders of…"
"Wait…wait…" I told him trying to stop his rumbling. "I can't go back to the council with you."
"Why?"
"Because I will have nothing to tell them"
"What do you mean?" he asked me, shocked by my words.
"What I mean is that I have no recollection of that night. Everything is blurry. I…I was poisoned by a wolfsbane infused blade but I escaped the fire. I fainted after that. Someone saved me and gave me the antidote but when I woke up I was simply left in the forest. I have no idea of what actually happened." I explained.
"It might be some kind of trauma response." He mumbled to himself, trying to explain the situation. "Is that why you are going back? To remember?"
"Yes…I want to remember." I told him, leaving out the part about how I wanted to kill the one who did this. That I was looking for evidence to take my revenge.
"Then I am going to come with you." he told me.
"What?"
"Well, I was assigned a task by the council and I need to do my job. Having you there, us working together might actually be helpful since we will get to cooperate. What do you think?"
"I don't trust you." I said, staring at him but he smiled.
"I understand but believe me I mean you no harm. You saw that I was coming with an order of the council. All I want is to find the monster who killed so many of our own."
"What is your name?" I asked him.
"My name is Sawn." he answered me. "And you are…"
"Alice, my name is Alice." I told him.
"So what do you think Alice? Want to work with me?"
I still didn't trust him, not one bit but at the same time I knew I couldn't go there alone. If he was willing to help me out maybe cooperating with the council would be better. I can just ditch him if I see that he is not useful, I told myself.
"Stay away from me and don't even think of touching me. Whatever you see or find will have to go through me. Deal?"
"Deal." he easily agreed.
