Chereads / A Love Made Of Blood / Chapter 8 - The Sleepless Vampire

Chapter 8 - The Sleepless Vampire

Damian couldn't sleep. He hadn't slept in days, months. Nightmares always tortured him, screams, blood and smoke surrounding him in his dreams and then her eyes. Grey as a storm she would look at him, stand right in the middle of the slaughter, tears in her eyes as he took away everything she ever loved. .

It was always the same dream, the guilt though always multiplied. Day by day the pain in his chest grew more and more and when the queen pulled him closer for a kiss, when his hands caressed her body he felt even worse. This deal he had made, so many years back, it was worse than making a deal with the devil but if it meant he could give her some more time, if it meant he could see her some more he would do it again and again, torture himself to complete madness.

The vampire laid in his bed in the castle. A spacious room so graciously given to him by the kind queen. The tapestry of his room was dark red while his bed was painted black, matching silk sheets and a red carpet that was always warm when you stepped on it. An enormous bathroom with a bathtub bigger than he needed made of pure shining gold. He lived in utter luxury, every man's dream but he felt as if he had been locked in a prison. He was the head of the royal special forces, a small group of elite assassins dealing with the royal family's most important issues, a title given to him as a reward for his deeds, deeds he wished to never have to describe.

He looked up at the golden chandelier, taking a deep breath, his green eyes traveling everywhere.

"What if I just end it all?" he wondered. It was simple. He would just have to stab himself. Right in the heart with a wooden sword. Then everything would end. He wouldn't have to torture her again and again, he wouldn't have to miss her and he wouldn't have to see her drown in misery. Damian was like a plague to her, every lifetime he would find new ways to destroy her only so he wouldn't have to kill her.

This time he even lied. Lied to Vaila that he had put an end to her life even though he was aware the queen could kill him with a snap of her fingers. He couldn't do it. He couldn't kill Alice and frankly he didn't want to.

"She will stop being miserable if I just die" he mumbled, pushing back his snow white hair. He just had to do it. Decide it and act on it.He would never come back and her misfortune would be over. "I can't…" he cried softly, turning to his side while small teardrops dampened his soft pillow.

Damian couldn't do it. Even though he knew it would end all her problems he just couldn't help but hope, be selfish. Wish that one day he would get to make up for it all, beg for forgiveness. He couldn't just leave without seeing her again, he couldn't let go of her no matter how hard he had tried. She was out there, so close, under the same sky but in such a different world. If he killed himself then he would never get to fix his mistakes. He was lost, for hundreds of years he had been letting his life pass, living only to make sure that she wouldn't die, that he would do everything in his power to keep her alive even if that meant he would have to kill her but keep her soul alive.

He would have to endure. Stick to his deal forever and pay for his sins. He knew already he was starting to get mad, slowly losing himself. Being away from her did that to him, the awareness of what he had done ruined him, the pain of his nightmares pulled on his brain strings making his sanity let go little by little.

"For how long…" he mumbled when he heard a knock on his door. It was loud and rushed, signaling that something urgent had happened. Shocked, he jumped up, wiping his face in a hurry before he opened the door and met his guest. It was one of his underlinks, a young vampire named Sting.

"What?" he asked him, a cold expression that described him amongst his pupils on his face.

"Sir, the queen has an order for you." he told him and passed an envelope. It wasn't heavy.

"What is this about?" Damian asked.

"I do not know Sir, it is classified. She insisted that you are the only one in this job and that you will leave immediately." Sting said and Damian wrinkled his nose, confused. He thought he had some time off for now but that obviously wasn't the case.

Without saying anything he closed the door in Sting's face and messily opened the black envelope. A few pieces of paper fell out and he ducked to get them. It was a map of a nearby area, then a small note and a picture of a man with a name on the back.

"Sawn…who the hell is he now?" Damian mumbled annoyed and he read Vaila's note.

"This is the man that is on the Moontear case. Find him and kill him. Do not leave any evidence and kill whoever is with him. We can't have him tracing the incident back to us. Burn the evidence when you memorize them."

His eyes widened as he realized what his next job was going to be. Looking at the picture of the werewolf he slowly crumbled it in his palm.

Was this ever going to end?
