Chapter 8 - Star hunt 2

"Awawa," Aila trembled as more goblins rushed towards us.

She wasn't exactly much help, but she's someone I could not afford to lose. In the future, she will become the most powerful nature element mage, capable of controlling a whole forest like it was an extension of her body.

"I'll keep her by my side," I muttered as I cut down another goblin.

"Give everything to Revenant," I mentally told the system. "We're here," I informed Aila as we stopped in front of a cave.

"Why are we here?" Aila asked hesitantly.

"We're going to kill all the cave spiders," I informed her.

"W-what?" she stepped back in fear.

"Don't worry, we won't be going inside," I patted her on the head. "Use your magic to cover the interior of the cave with pollen."

Aila didn't question it and activated her magic. I watched as glowing powder came out of the magic circle and entered the cave. After a few minutes, Aila collapsed to her knees. "I'm done," she announced.

"Good job," I picked her up in a bridal carry.

"W-what?"

"Cover your ears," that was the only thing I said before the cave exploded.

"You came all the way here for this?" Argonius said as he looked at the two people in front of him. "Marquis Parvis, I believe the engagement was already broken off when your daughter distanced herself from my son."

Marquis Parvis and his daughter Maria felt uncomfortable under Argonius's gaze. They may have a higher social standing, but the man in front of them had greater power and authority.

"We simply wished to inform you since it will be announced to the public soon," Marquis Parvis explained.

"Only an idiot would think an engagement is still valid when one party is dead," Argonius replied coldly.

Both guests looked confused. "Count, are you not aware that your son is still alive?"

Argonius's eyes widened.

"Lord Gray, I hope you don't mind me asking a question," Aila spoke as we were approaching the center of the forest.

"Don't call me lord, and it's fine," I replied.

"How are you still alive?" Aila asked and I raised an eyebrow at her. "I-I mean people talk about that you supposed to have died by a curse yesterday."

"Wow... people actually bothered to note my time of death," with people like this, it was no wonder any rumor was considered common knowledge. "Well, the answer is pretty simple."

Aila stared at me with anticipation.

"I got rid of the curse."

"B-but clockwork of death is a fate level curse!"

I smiled. "Don't give a shit," I said with a thumbs up.

I continued walking as Aila seemed to try comprehending what I had just said to her. As we drew closer to the center of the forest, the sounds of fighting were starting to get louder.

"T-the dungeon boss," Aila informed me.

We weren't close enough to see the fighting yet, so we hurriedly ran to the center. Aila had the ability to use her nature magic to identify any living being in the surroundings, so I had no reason to question her.

Upon arrival, we found the upperclassman with the extras fighting a group of goblin swordsmen and a goblin chief. "Out of my way!" the upperclassman shouted as he randomly kept swinging his sword.

"We need to help them," Aila said.

I turned to her. "Why?" My question made her stare at me with surprise. "We're not in a real dungeon, they'll just get teleported out when they receive damage."

"But they ne-" "Aaah!" Aila was cut off by a scream.

One of the extras was stabbed by the goblin chief and was teleported out of the dungeon. The other extra followed after getting punched by the chief. The upperclassman was next after being stabbed by the goblin swordsmen.

"N-no, I was too late," Aila trembled.

"They're fine," I told her as I began approaching the goblins.

"Let's make this quick you little green shits," I readied my sword.

The goblin chief charged at me with his scimitar raised high. All of them were wielding swords, which meant my gift will easily take care of what will happen next.

My body moved on its own, performing attacks that I shouldn't be even capable of doing. The goblins were cut down like nothing, and a gate appeared before me.

I looked at the reflection of myself in a puddle of water.
