Chereads / Curse devourer / Chapter 14 - Clearing

Chapter 14 - Clearing

"It's awfully quiet."

I mentioned it as I waited in the passage.

It had been half an hour since I sent in Revenant, but nothing has happened at all. I'd be able to somewhat feel if Revenant was being destroyed as my energy would be drained in order for Revenant to regenerate, so I was certain that my ego wasn't losing.

Now that I think about it, I never asked the old man from the village how strong exactly the angels were. "Should I be worried?"

[Angels defeated: 13]

"You couldn't have notified me sooner?"

[Where's the fun in that?]

"The fuck?" my eyes twitched. "When did you get a fucking personality?"

As I was getting irritated at the system, the sounds of wind blowing were getting louder. Turning back to the giant pillar in the middle of the chamber, I noticed a flock of angels rushing out.

"Well... that's not good," I used eye of analysis.

"As strong as me huh," I drew my sword.

The angels screeched, making me look at them in confusion.

"Angels screech?"

All of them raised their hands and a magic circle appeared in front of them and above me. I tried to jump back, but the magic circle remained above me.

[You have been inflicted with the ritual of slowness]

I smirked. "Curse devourer," gold fragments of light left my body and ironically went into my hands. "A curse is a curse no matter what you call it!"

The angels used magic once more and another magic circle appeared above me.

[You have been inflicted with the ritual of slowness]

[You have been inflicted with the ritual of weakness]

[You have been inflicted with the ritual of fatigue]

"Go on," I taunted as Curse devourer consumed the curses. "Make me stro- gah!" I was interrupted by an arrow made of light piercing my shoulder.

"Sending an immortal being to fight was a wise choice," an angel with four wings approached. In his hand that was glowing was Revenant being held by the neck.

"The boss I assume?" I asked as I pulled out the arrow on my shoulder.

"Say your prayers human," the angel gained a savage grin as arrows of light appeared around him.

"Nah," Aura rush began to activate. "Grave of swords!" As I shot towards the exit of the dungeon, my sword lashed out destroying pillars and walls.

"You mongrel!"

The dungeon boss roared while flaring his wings.

I smirked as the angels chased after me. The passageway was beginning to collapse, burying some of the angels under it.

"How dare yo-" the dungeon boss roared but was interrupted by Revenant grabbing onto his wings. "Let go!"

I cackled as I saw the ceiling drop on top of the boss. But unfortunately for me, the drawback of using Grave of swords already struck. "Shit!"

I tumbled to the ground, my body completely in pain.

"Master!"

Velris called out to me. I wasn't near the exit yet, so she must have followed me inside.

"I remember telling you to wait outside."

"I apologize master, but you were taking too long."

"It's fine," I tried to move, but the strain from using Grave of swords practically made me a vegetable.

Revenant came out of the shadows, standing up to his full height.

[You have slain a total of 20 angels]

[You have obtained a blessed feather]

"How kind of you," I grumbled. "What about the reward for killing the dungeon boss?"

[...]

[The dungeon boss is still alive]

"What?!"

Catherine arrived at the first years' class floor, looking for a specific individual. From the reports, Raveil Gray was in the variant class, but has not attended any of his classes yet.

"What is he planning?"

A student missing the first days of the class wasn't unusual, but that was mostly because they had not arrived at the academy yet. Catherine had also checked the infirmary but was informed that Raveil Gray had already miraculously recovered and left.

"Duchess, perhaps he is at his dorm," Catherine's servant suggested.

"Send someone to check," Catherine ordered. "Send someone to the academy gates as well to ask if he left."

The servant nodded and left to do her order.

"Duchess Slywood," Catherine glanced behind her to find Astrid.

"Shouldn't you be suspended?" Catherine spoke.

"I simply came to retrieve some of my belongings."

Catherine noticed the box in Astrid's hands. As a third-year student, Catherine had already been notified of Astrid's dismissal from the student council. But the subject of her suspension was something she found out as someone with a high social standing.

"And what has happened to the victim of your irresponsibility?"

"I am currently unaware of his condition."

Catherine scoffed. She expected the answer, but she hoped to get at least one clue.

"Is there anything else you wish to ask?"

"No, you may leave," Catherine waved off Astrid.

Catherine couldn't help but be a bit annoyed.

[You have slain a total of 50 savage angels]

The notification popped up as I lay on the ground immobilized. It had been seven hours since the dungeon passage collapsed due to my attack, so I had been doing nothing but lay on the ground helpless.

The drawback of using Grave of swords was too much for my body, and drinking any potions barely helped at all, leaving me no choice but to wait. Revenant was currently in the dungeon hunting down angels to increase the quality of my reward for clearing the dungeon. I also received confirmation that the dungeon boss trapped under the rubble, so he was a free kill once we were done.

"Are you sure you don't want to return yet master?" Velris asked me as she was peeling some fruits.

"Yeah. I want to clear this place first," I replied. "And it gives me some time to organize my thoughts."

[You have been inflicted with the curse "An angel's fury"]

I raised my eyebrows.

The target will receive twice the amount of damage from holy magic attacks.

"Can this be turned into an ego?"

[No]

"Bummer."
