"Piper?" She said to Jake while glancing at me. I shook my head vigorously, my eyes wide with panic, as Matilda put the call on speaker. I moved to sit beside her on the bed, nervously awaiting Jake's voice on the other end of the line.
There was a brief silence, during which my heart felt like it might burst out of my chest. I held my breath, waiting for Jake's response.
Finally, he spoke again, his voice softer this time. "I wanted to check if Piper was okay. Can you give her the phone?" He asked, and I could feel my anxiety rising as I shook my head vigorously.
Matilda glanced at me with a knowing look and replied, "Uhm...she's…she's in the bathroom. Yeah, she's taking a shower." Matilda said, and I nodded in affirmation, telling her to keep going.
"Oh," his voice sounded disappointed, which caused me to arch a brow.
